They have an entire forum on their website filled with people asking and receiving specifics, though, so they do do it. They just tell you not to ask because they'd rather not have people wasting time telling pirates they pirated or people who whipped it out playing Uno that they whipped it out playing Uno so they're hoping some people will just acknowledge they done fucked up and move on.

Obviously the entire argument was based on the fact that he legitimately purchased games and that he was banned for something more nebulous than blatant piracy.

And you know what- Even if he did pirate 90 games but purchased 10, does he not have a right to the 10 games he purchased?

If I have a modded console where I download 90 games, I still own the 10 physical copies I purchased. The argument is more about ownership in the 'digital age' than anything else.

If he violates the terms of service he needs access to to get said games, the no, he does not have the right to gain access for those games he lost. Tough luck.

As for ownership, well, we've covered that ground already.

Taking away people's legally purchased property is tantamount to theft in itself.

In the UK, if you are caught riding/driving motorbikes/cars illegally (say no insurance), not only can you get points on your licence/loose it and get a fine , the police can in fact take your car/motorbike and crush it (in essence taking away your legally purchased property).

Also in the UK, if you play music to loud or use items in your house to annoy people in the general area (neighbours etc), local councils can actually get legal permission to take away your stuff that is used to do it (HI-FI/TV etc).

People just don't know how the banning process works. Also, with little details provided in the MS automated response, those with an itch to react in a given way to bad publicity for MS may be baited a bit easier.
