Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

Do you still have to format your Vita to switch between accounts from different regions?

Is that necessary to play physically imported games from other regions?

Yes you still have to format onto switch regions. I don't think Sony intends to change that anytime soon tbh.

And no, physical games and all their patches are region free. Stuff that needs to download from the store, like dlc or online passes , are however, not regions free in that you will need to swich accounts.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Well, I just got a Vita and I'm downloading some demos. The only game I own is Gravity Rush which I bought a while ago for change.

I think I'll spend the next 4 hours rearranging the apps :lol

Just joined the ranks of Vita new owner. I'll check out the thread in my spare time :)

oo two new vita owners! post some impressions when you've have some time to sit and dive in.

get in on the PS+ action and ask any questions or game recommendations. there is plenty to keep you busy for sure.

welcome!

So... Gundam musou is just announced for the vita. And some rpg whose name I can't pronounce. See the famitsu thread if you want details.

Was the previous gundam musou localised?

So I got my new and very first PS Vita earlier this week and wanted to post my impressions / how much I love this thing. Bought off Cowboom for $130 + 10 bucks shipping, graded as a "rank 6" - the unit was 100% indistinguishable from new, basically, aside from the absence of a box or stickers on the screen. There is also a slight weird burn-in / ghosting ONLY when the screen is displaying pure black and I am playing completely in the dark. Essentially it's a quirk but a non-issue.

Anyway, I love this thing, it's aweosme. I signed up for PS+, but as of right now have not touched the free games and have just been playing Persona 4 Golden, non-stop. I am up at my GF's parents house and have had a ton of time to get cozy and just play the hell out of this and really this game is terrific, made better by the system. I won't harp on P4G as that's been done plenty, but if you've ever enjoyed a good mystery, an RPG, or hell, even anything Japanese, you'll love this game.

Other thoughts:

-Battery life is perfectly satisfactory - heard a lot of complaints about this but really it's like 5 and half hours and by the time it runs low it's probably a good time to take a break anyway.

-PS store sucks on this thing... slow ass performance, total absence of certain titles that are playable on Vita, no thumbnails / trailers / any info for a good many games. Basically it's no good and you'd better have a PS3 as well or you're going to have a hard time finding smaller titles to play.

-Lack of SD memory is so stupid, but we all know that by now. Be prepared to shuffle games a lot on a small card... or shuffle the money in your bank account to get a big one.

-There are a lot more games than people think. I already feel quite overwhelmed with my small backlog of P4G (current), then Uncharted, then Gravity Rush, then Dragon's Crown, then the MGS collection, plus many PSP games I never got a chance to play, etc. Not to mention a huge selection of PS1 games, and remote play coming in November. More games would be great, obviously, but there is really no shortage of anything to play if you pick one up right now.

Overall this new user is very pleased with the system. I'm glad I didn't wait for some undefined period where it would have been better to buy. I'm excited for whatever will come, especially in light of the fact that some of PSPs most iconic games came about 5 years after the system's launch.... Remote play is another big draw as my console is hooked to my desktop monitor, so I can lay in bed playing or sit on my terrace, etc.

Thanks for reading and for inspiring me to get a Vita!

Don't worry, that "burn-in" thing is mura that shows up on basically every OLED screen. Welcome to VitaGAF!

Yeah as I mentioned it really is not a bother, just kind a quirk. It might be bad on a full desktop monitor or TV, but when I'm actually playing a game I'm too busy to notice.

Welcome new Vita owner(s)! The Vita build quality is in a league of its own. The best handheld hardware that i know of and had the pleasure of using. Hope there'll be more quality software support from Sony like KZ Mercenary!

Shame to hear about the WO3 Ultimate. I was looking forward to that. I'd probably still buy it. I'm a sucker for warrior games.

I hope more games on the Vita feature cross-play with the PS3
was hoping to play LittleBigPlanet with the girlfriend :/

irrelevant but still..
I can't decide on my next phone

using the dinosaur BlackBerry 9900
thinking of either
(1) Samsung Galaxy Note 3
(2) iPhone 5S
(3) Sony Xperia Z1
(4) BlackBerry Q10
(5) HTC One or Nexus...

I have an HTC One and I considered it the most well built top of the line phone until the Xperia Z1 arrived. I wish I had waited a few more months. The HTC One's successor should be out by the year's end.

Very disappointed by the warriors orochi 3 ultimate gameplay
http://gamingeverything.com/off-screen-warriors-orochi-3-ultimate-footage/

Both vita and ps3 versions have few enemies on screen(vita seems to be worse), dynasty warriors next had more enemies(and maybe even better graphics).

The 5 character select on the bottom left, as well as all 5 characters being on screen at all times seems to indicate that this is a new mode from the standard WO3. Along with what looks like a restricted map size makes me wary of judging this against other Musou games on PS3Vita until we see it running in a standard battle.

Hopefully they allow save transfers from WO3 (PS3) to WO3U (Vita) because that is the only way I'm going to get the game. I don't think I could stomach putting the hours I put into WO3 again, but I know I also couldn't take not wringing every bit of completion out of it.

I really want a Musou game on my Vita though. Maybe DW8XL.

Get a ps+ sub and you'd be set for a while. Welcome to vitagaf!

Well, uh, I don't know what to ask yet. It's quite overwhelming. I'm a bit wary of subbing to PS+ since I like to keep physical copies of my games but since it's like $6 a month in Switzerland I might just sub for the hell of it. So I guess I have some questions about PS+ and the Store:

- How often are there sales? What about PSP or PSone games?
- The Instant Game Collection I keep hearing about... am I right in assuming that the 12 free games are across all PS platforms? And currently there's only the ones outlined in the OP? How often do these get updated? Any things to keep in mind?

-Often there are sales, almost every 2 weeks, but psp, ps1 and especially vita sales are almost rare.
-counting ps3 and vita games the igc gives you 60+ games a year, 12+ of them are for vita.

Guys does anyone know if phantasy star is coming to vita? I played the px version a while back but the lack of Japanese to English was getting on my nerves despite regular patches.

definitely don't hold your breath

the japanese game is playable without knowing the language, but it's much better to play on PC. once you get used to it there, you could mix in some of the vita play with it, but the load times are pretty terrible in comparison

A local Walmart still has stock of the PS+ Vita bundle. I have been hemming and hawing over whether I should pick one up. I like the idea of playing some of the recent indie games released for it, but I can't justify it as I already have a PC and a PS3, so...

What are you folks playing these days? Also, can someone point me to an exclusives list. That may lead me to resolution.

I pretty much just play Spelunky and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom

If you managed to spot a PS+ bundle out in the wild, that's likely the best value you'll find (retail, at least).

Well, the tone changed when the 3DS changed in price, and, suddenly and inexplicably, the Vita wasn't am amazing price anymore. Then it changed more when the horrible memory card prices and lack of multiple accounts came about.

I'd say it had more to do with the dearth of third party support than things like that. The Nintendo press conference where Monster Hunter Tri G, and MH4 were announced kind of killed the mood.

Are you referring to Phantasy Star Online 2, or Phantasy Star NOVA? Neither one has been announced for localization.

Gundam Dynasty Warriors are the only Gundam games that get localized. But given the president One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 created, I'm not certain the Vita version would be released here.

I'd just like to announce in playing metal gear HD sons of liberty. Never played MGS before but this looks really great on vita and plays quite well. Nice stealth game.

(Just started playing as Raiden...I don't like him).

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to.
Welcome to one of the biggest trolls of all time. Also one of the most brilliant.

regardless if a game is exclusive or not, the vita version is usually the definitive version of the game - this pertains to most of the indie games..

killzone, tearaway, batman blackgate ( has a lesser 3ds ver), uncharted, little big planet ( best in series), dragons crown ( has ps3 ver), persona 4 golden, soul sacrifice, gravity rush, wipe 2048, guacamelee (crossbuy ps3) - all i can think of off top of my head right now are quality titles. theres LOTs more too. i dont think pc/ps3 can substitute what vita provides - if you're looking for that mobile experience.

Guys, is this a thread for "Vita Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread" stuff?

If so...
I just bought my second Vita. The hideous new Vita made me jump the gun and buy a White OG Vita (absolute perfection) to complement my Black OG.

Now, I have AC Liberation "Digital", and my new Vita came with AC Liberation "Card".

After some research I think most Vita games have better loading times on Card, instead of Digital (not a huge advantage though).

That said, here's my question: Is this difference also felt in games? Like frame dipping, texture loadings, objetcs poppings in favor of Card games?

This thread for everything related to Vita, so you are in the right place.

No, it's just for the loading time (and it's a very tiny difference), framerate and pop-in are the same between card and digital.

Actually a lot better than I was expecting. Too many enemies on screen in DW Next was actually one of the smaller problems I had with the game, because you could barely understand what was going on thanks to the zoomed up camera. A more manageable enemy count + a zoomed out perspective actually lends better to gameplay than what DW Next was.

The only game I can comment on is Little Big Planet Vita, and the create mode can be brutal with the digital version... capturing objects and loading your pop it bag takes way longer, depending on the complexity of your objects & logic boards, and the amount of things in your pop it. Most people might never encounter the problems just messing around in create a little, or playing the game, but if you know what you're doing in create mode and are being ambitious the physical card is the only option. I figure that's a unique circumstance, but the fact I can see it magnified to such a great degree in LBPV, means there definitely is a performance benefit for physical cards, however small.

I don't think there's any discernible difference with other things, like Totobeni said. I could see potential for something like the Borderlands 2 port having noticeable benefits in the future, because of how it spends a few seconds more loading in textures after you load into a new area... but who knows?

Yes, my Vita has a small burn-in too. But this is normal and the screen still works perfectly. And I've tried very hard to notice any problem.

As I say in the last page, I'm going to have enough money to buy a new Vita game. Selling my DS Lite. I'm debating between waiting for Dragon's Crown, buying Killzone: Mercenaries or buying P4: The Golden. What should I do?

I want to buy them all, but I don't know what to do. I'll buy it at retail.

Well, P4G is $10 cheaper than the others. If you're interested in KZ:M's multiplayer, though, you might want to jump on that while the game is still new.

buy Persona 4 Golden, it's so good and best JRPG of the PS2, amazing story, combat, fusing, high school and dating simulation all in one also the mighty Chie-chan.

Dragon's Crown is really boring (and very repetitive) I'm trying to force myself to beat it somehow, I didn't bought KZM but in the beta it have a very narrow FOV that will make your brain explode with very painful headaches (unless you are not narrow FOV sensitive)

is Muramasa's backtracking that bad? Im thinking about getting it but a friend of mine had the original Wii version but he sold it because he said the backtracking is atrocious. Oh and the LE is only $47 at Amazon, $7 more than the regular edition.

Yes, one of top worst things about the game. and they didn't remove the backtracking from Rebirth (Vita version), sure you can use mirrors to warp to shrines but still you do a lot (many tons and tons) of unnecessary long and boring backtracking fighting billions of boring generic enemies in many recycled locations.

gah, its one of the things I hate about metroidvanias. I guess I'll put that off for a while.

Not really.

But unless you like the combat, there's not a ton of variety in the actual traversing, so it all seems like backtracking... I mean, it's all pretty much run from side to side, maybe going up or down in the process. The random encounters are pretty much the main thing that breaks it up on the way to the boss/next story piece.

Seriously. You can beat the game in less than 3 hours. There's a trophy for doing so. My speed run with Kisuke was like 2.5 hours.

The worst of the backtracking is if you're a completionist -- if you're going for the platinum, what gets annoying is you have to complete every challenge/trial twice and beat every boss in the game 3 times at least.

Other than that -- if you play without using the bronze mirrors, yeah, you have to run from the boss area back to the branch point and then over to the next boss. Want to solve that? Just make sure you use bronze mirrors. They'll warp you back to the last shrine you visited. Once you beat the game with each character you can warp between any shrine in the game (and use any sword unlocked).

Do yourself a favor and go watch chapter 1 and 2 of a playthrough.
You'll get an idea of how "bad" the backtracking is then.

I'm loving my new Vita. 160$ for the Vita, an 8GB card, Uncharted, and Lumines. Absolutely perfect-looking condition. Flawless. And I fucking *love* the interface. It's so clean and responsive.

I haven't had much time to play games yet. But I got PS+ and made sure to download everything I could see that was free. So, two questions.

1. Of Uncharted, Lumines and the (current) free PS+ games, what should I play first?

2. Are there any other free things to download that might not be jumping out at me? (Or are all of the free PS+ games collected on that one page?)

Play them both -- Lumines doesn't really have a story, it's a pick up and play when you feel like it. Think Tetris. So Uncharted should be the first thing you focus on.

I have no idea what region you're in (NA?) and what's currently on the IGC for PS+ that you have access too.

Gravity Rush should probably trump Uncharted for what you should play though. :)
