How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

Have exclusives i'm interested in. I can get over price, I didn't mind the online stuff, but they have literally no exclusives that look mildly entertaining to me. So basically, get on level with Sony's first party.

Microsoft already got my heart....Ever since the First Xbox, I jumped ship from Sony and haven't regretted it one bit. Microsoft is an innovative company, what Xbox live did at the time was truly a great leap forward for consoles, and if you were a competitive multiplayer guy like myself, the Xbox was the only gaming console to play on. The PS3 had a horrible launch with a horrible lineup. They have certainly picked up the slack in the last couple of years and have come out with some great exclusives. My problem is that Sony's exclusives are rentals for me, they have very little replayability. Uncharted can be beaten in a weekend, and then I am done with it. All of the Halo's aside from 4 have had me playing them for years. Gears of war was extremely entertaining and Forza is the only racing game I will ever need. That being said, they certainly can do better with exclusives...but lets face it, its all about the 3rd party games these days. I was one of the people who supported Microsoft even when they announced their DRM policies and digital plans. The 24 check in was a killer, I feel like they should of had 2 versions of the Xbox one, a kit for online only gamers and a kit for people who have shotty internet who would be forced to use discs only. As much as I care about people being employed, Gamestop will be out of business in less then 10 years, digital sales on consoles are going through the roof, and that will only grow with the new generation. If Sony could survive the PS3 launch, which was a year later, 200$ more expensive (for the premium) and no exclusives of any worth then I am pretty sure Microsoft will be just fine. I can't wait for these things to come out already so that we can just play the games and stop speculating. I just don't get how people feel so betrayed by Microsoft, the internet these days overblows everything, can't even enjoy Mass Effect without having whiners go crazy and have Bioware create dlc endings. Sorry for the rant.

Personally, I'm glad I don't want the xBone. It makes my buying decision much easier. I'm going all in with the ps4. Can not stand Kinect. Had the worst experience with it when I tried it. Plus there it's nothing that blows me away to justify getting xBone. Maybe if they ditch Kinect, slim that brick of a box down, and support the console with more quality first party exclusives I would think about it.

Also they haven't really supported the 360 with awesome first party games this year. Which tells me lots.

It's all down to games. Right now they just don't have a lineup of exclusives that I'm interested in, change that and I'll get the console.

Yep, I'm worried they're gonna do the same thing with the xbone. Get people to buy one with a decent launch lineup and touting Titanfall over and over again, then it will have a long drought without any first party titles. I think that's why they secured timed exclusivity for Titanfall and other timed exclusive DLC, they are trying to make up for the inevitable first party title drought.

If they kept trending the way they were... not in terms of sales/mindshare but of ideology.

I want someone on the console side to actually undermine the Gamestop/brick and mortar stores and drop their digital content prices.
I want to be able to sell back my digital copies and buy used digital copies and send proceeds to the developers.
But more importantly, exclusives. They've clearly began investing in first party exclusives, which for me was one of their biggest knocks last year so it's a start but they got their clock cleaned by Sony in terms of the sheer volume of quality exclusives.

Exclusive games that I really have to play. Suikoden 6 for example. So the odds of me buying a Xbone is about the same as konami releasing a exclusive Suikoden 6 for it. That are not great odds.

*Drop mandatory Kinect.
*Change Win8 to be an OS with (at least) equal focus on Desktop computers as on tablets, and admit the mistakes you have done here.
*Take a long look att yourself for why Rare and Lionhead have gone crap since your purchase.
*Never ever ever pull something GfWL again, where you put out a service just for the sake of it and push developers to use it, while you yourself don't care a bit about it once it's out.
*Stop killing of development communities you yourself have created, like XNA.
*Follow Sony's example and create a wider portfolio of first/second party titles, with much much less focus on AAA action titles.
*And when you attempt something that's not an AAA action game, create something ambitious once again, like Fable 1, and not just a bunch social buzzword bullshit games.

That's not all of it, but it's a start.

Do this for a while, all of it, and then we can talk. For right now, I really don't want to be a MS customer.

Ok at a worse case scenario for XB1 - PS4 is 50% more powerful.

It's a no brainer...

You have your pre-order booked for Sony.

Your entire house is decorated in Kaz wallpaper.

You go to bed listening to "Slumber with Cerny" audiotapes.

Just what could Microsoft do from now to launch to bring you back into the fold of Xbox?

It is always about the games for me

If MS can deliver better JRPGs and a proper real Fable (and not a multiplayer spin off) that is better than Fable 1, they have me in instantly

Either will do really, one great game i really want is enough

Right now, after Deep Down fiasco, neither system has a game i really want

What will make me buy each

xbox one

- Fable 4 main game, that is as good or better than Fable 1 or at least Fable 2
- Lost Odyssey 2

PS4

- Demons Souls 2
- Level 5 JRPG

.
For now i dont particularly want either system, maybe i go with PS4 for the extra power if games like Witcher 3, FF15 etc look better than on xbox 1

There's only a few things they could do to win me over.

-Hire a ton of new talent at Rare and change their Kinect focus
-Sell Rare IPs to someone who'll actually make good use of them. Especially if Microsoft isn't even going to do anything with them.
-If they do use them, advertise them properly and space out their releases. Viva Pinata and Gears coming out around the same time, twice, was not smart on your part Microsoft.

I've been bitten by Microsoft way too many times and I honestly doubt I'd ever go back unless any of this happened.

With High quality games I cant get any where else and a price drop.

I had 250 pounds down on mine and i cancelled it 4 days ago. Will get one when I actually feel the need. not laying 430 pounds down for that!

IMHO they tried arrogantly to guide where "next gen" should go without
giving two fucks about what their paying customers would say.

Only after severe backlash(no doubt the preorder numbers were terrible) did they decide
they *had* to drop all their anti consumer/gamer features.

And that's a key part folks-they didn't willingly backpedal, it was forced on them rightfully so by us. They've remained arrogant and smug and don't deserve my money for Xbox-One.

Nothing.

No interest whatsoever.

Microsoft is a pretty awful company and I will never forget the RROD. That right there is when I was done with MS.

I've always bought the console that I thought had the superior hardware, there's nothing MS can do to win me - they have inferior hardware (and a worse pricepoint) and hence a worse value proposition.

Exclusive sequels: Stubbs the Zombie 2
Decent Destroy All Humans sequel
Decent Rare sequel
Jade Empire 2

The ability to play online with a silver account like some online services we know.

Shift the focus of development from a family console to a gaming console

Blah blah blah things I'll never see.

MS is the new Nintendo wii team for me this next generation. The core problem for me is like with Nintendo before the Wii was released, was that they where something of appealing to us gamers. They talked our language and really showed us some excellent games, in short they focused on us and saw us.

I remember getting the xbox360 back in 2005. A console made for gamers, by gamers. All was good and I was really happy. The shift from us gamers to non-gamers started with the Wii success and MS greed to try and win this market. The problem was that they poured all there focus and resources in trying to win this market segment with the Kinect. For us gamers it felt like they left us a cold hand. I wonder still to this day how many more exlusives we would get if there wasnt a kinect.

Now going in to the next generation they are focusing on trying still to get both the casual gamers and the hardcore gamers. For me I dont think anymore of xbox as a hardcore gamers console. I think of it more as being a 7 years to late Nintendo Wii. This is why im going PS4 next-generation because that console feels like a console for us gamers and that Sony is hearing and listning to what we want, and not the non-gamers.

I bought a 360 for Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Tales of Vesperia.

So basically they have to get JRPG exclusives to have me looking in their direction. Heck, the lack of JRPG anything on PS4 is definitely pushing me to adopt it beyond 2013.

The only thing left for them at this point is to have some crazy exclusives that will make me want the system. They'll need not one, but quite a few, for me to give them another shot.

The amount of hubris and marketing spin they've displayed these past few months has put me off them completely.

This is true for me as well. I cancelled my Live subscription and stopped playing games on my 360 around the time of the Kinect release.

I own a Kinect, because my significant other loves dance/zumba games. But I really don't play the console anymore, even though I have a dozen unplayed games for it, because it doesn't feel like a device for me as a gamer. I end up double dipping on the games during Steam Sales' and playing them on PC..

Price drop to 399$

GEARS OF WAR 4 from Epic...

For now, there is no reason for me to buy PS4, because those launch games of it are bad...
XBO launch games are better for me, but i will wait for a price drop...

Nothing really. The drm was never a problem for me; the machine is too weak for me. They have talked about their brilliant rocket scientist engineers and how it is perfectly balanced, but I know better than that. They wanted to cheap out on the power and went as weak as they possibly thought they could get away with. And they went too weak for me.

A more powerful console? That's it? That's all it takes? I mean let's be honest, there isn't really anything that differentiates the PS4 from the PS3 than simply more powerful hardware. Wonderful! How boring. At least MS was/is trying to do something different. Whether it turns out successful or not is a big if and up to MS/developers to make it happen.... But at least they're rolling some dice, trying some new ideas and tech/improving on ideas that didn't work out so well, instead of maintaining the status quo.

OP you should know by now that thus far in this new console war GAF is almost purely pro sony regardless of what it is, and anti ms regardless of what it is.

THAT being said... I'm still getting both at launch. Both offer games I'm interested in. Great time to be a cross platform gamer (WiiU and PC included!)

New better hardware and powerfull for a low price i like it that sort of thing is having my attention. Also no mandatory to a cam down your throat and like i said again 100 euro's more expensive.

MS is not reinventing the wheel here, they had everything locked in place but then came february when sony busted in the door and then there was E3. You should know better and think more ahead of what they did. Well the damage was all ready done. And i don't really care about exclusives. Also launching in small country's shows this was rushed hardware regardless.

I've been burned with countless HDD failures and RROD's. I no longer trust their gaming hardware. I'll never buy another Microsoft console again.

They just can't, really. In a way, that "one console" future is already a reality; meaning, you can get just one console and enjoy the huge majority of the games that are on the market. There is no need to get these two new systems, even as a hardcore gamer. Some people would want to get both for the four or five exclusives that they wouldn't be able to play in the other system, and that's perfectly understandable, but I personally can't justify dropping down a few hundred bucks to play throughout an entire generation the four or five games that I wouldn't be able to play on the other system. Since I already made my decision to buy a PS4 (being the cheaper and more powerful system), and am only getting one console, there's really nothing Microsoft could do.

This is not to take into account the bullshit that Microsoft tried to pulled off with the DRM. That alone is enough for me to stay away from the XBO or from any other console that Microsoft may make in the future (this is coming from someone whose main console this gen was the 360), but coupling this with what I mentioned in the first paragraph makes matters all that much worse when it comes to Microsoft's chances at grabbing my money.

I was a Microsoft fan...
I pre-orderred an XBOX and adored it for the SEGA titles... I preferred the power which is why I always got an Xbox360... At the time it was the most powerful console with a nice price.

So what has changed... "Brand Image"

It all started with the Xbox360:

Xbox360 dies, next Xbox360 dies, next Xbox360 dies....meanwhile my phat PS3's are still kicking.

Recently...GTA5 on Xbox360 is having issues...now playing it on my PS3.

Then it was the backlash from the Indie scene.... "Brand Image"

Next the we are focusing on TV/Entertainement... "Brand Image"

Next DRM... "Brand Image"

Next the we can't change DRM and the constant lies... "Brand Image"

The Xbox is not going to be the most powerful system when released... "Brand Image" (Main reason I got an Xbox)

The "always watching me" or always connected camera combined with personal reasons to dislike it... "Brand Image"

The NSA Scandal "Brand Image"

Still no validation on the camera...Kinect is a thorn to "Brand Image"

I'm sick of the current Microsoft...

DRM was reversed, Kinect being mandatory was dropped, the only thing stopping me now is not having the option to buy a Kinect free Xbox One.

Give me a sku without the Kinect at a $399.99 price point

or

If M$ wants to maintain the $499.99 price point give me a bundle with two games and without the Kinect.

Maybe this could happen if the gap between the sales of the PS4 and XBone will be large enough to force M$'s hand into dropping the price sooner than expected.

Disclaimer: I'll probably main my PC this gen since I'm generally down on "lol PC hardware" next gen, so MS has it extra hard to crack my shell.
Rant inc!

As far as I am concerned MS basically buried their console this gen. Better luck next time.

MS made a general purpose system, as evidenced by the app system and the three billion OSes on the system. ;) Not a bad thing by itself, but... I have a PC and tablet for that and those PC lite features are just wasted cycles on a gaming device IMHO.

The HDMI in/TV control features are something I have no use for (having no cable box, watching barely any TV and living in Germany makes this worse than useless).

I have a physical repulsion reaction to the Win8 UI since I have to support that OS in my Job and none of my customers have had an easy time adapting to it, making my life a living hell.

Kinect can go suck a nut. No two ways about it. I refuse this thing with every fiber of my being. Waving at my overlord monitoring device and talking to my game console is not something I ever asked for.

I will also never forget the pre-180 plans, so they have a considerable disadvantage and need to bring that much more value to get me to give them money now.

MS itself has an image problem for me. Recent XBone PR disasters aside, I do not agree with what they did to Nokia, I am utterly puzzled by their actions around the Surface launch and the way they tried to force the Win8 UI and the related troubles I had at my job really rub me the wrong way. I have never been a MS fan, but they're really pushing me away in recent times.

Looking at current-gen usage patterns my 360 is gathering dust big time (Rez HD doesn't count), my Wii still gets used from time to time and the PS3 is occasionally active due to Plus. Even if MS manage to seamlessly transition over from the 360 they will still offer me a personal third-place experience.

They could make a Kinect-less bundle with a gajillion games and lifetime Live for 299 and I'd still be loitering around, looking for hidden traps and generally suspecting shenanigans. Stick a fork in it, it's done.
