How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

I've giving up on MS after my 4th 360 RROD and they started focusing on Kinect and COD every year. This time around I'm going strictly PC with a touch of PS4 and maybe a Wii U in the future. I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the N64 days, it's time to give them another go.

They have it.
Does anyone else feel thatKIlzone will be overshadowed by the two biggest fps being released(ghost and bf4)?

Well I'm gonna get a ps4 first. That's not gonna change since i'm not a tier1 country as far as microsoft are concerned.

But really. If they want me to buy their console. They just gotta have the games, that's really the only thing I care about. I don't give a shit about apps or streaming services and all that shit.

Yes. They've published six games so far this year. They're planning to release four more games in 2013 and three in 2014.

According to wikipedia:
MS-published 360 games in 2013:
Gears of War: Judgment
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
Zoo Tycoon

What am I missing?

They simply can't.
I decided to rid myself of Microsoft products just before the Xbox One DRM fiasco. Said DRM fiasco only pushed me further away from them, and made me realise that I'd made the right decision. The only Microsoft product I use nowadays is Windows 7, and I hope to switch away from that at some point.

In short, there is absolutely nothing Microsoft could do to win me back, short of spinning Xbox off into a new company that has different intentions than MS does.
Yep, my thoughts as well. I still have Windows XP dual-booted with Ubuntu on my PC but with Valves push of Linux I can see myself getting rid of that as well.

Drop Kinect
Drop price $100

I think they've got a better launch lineup for my personal tastes in the short term.
I have no interest in indie games and think its an awful selling point for a $400 console, since most people own smart phones, tablets and/or PCs and can get those kinds of games anyway. Seems Sony is going to hang their hat on these Indy games after the launch window until Sony Santa Monica and Naughty Dog get their games ready.

That said, I have even less interest in Kinect than I do Indy games and I refuse to pay for it. Kinect 1.0 gathered more dust on my entertainment center than my Wii and Wii U combined and thats an awful lot of dust.

Drop Kinect and that $100 premium that goes with it, then Xbox one might be in play again as to which console I'll be getting at launch.

That ship has sailed.

It was teetering last generation with their policies, particularly XBL and the marketplace, but they basically had me at "Halo" and PS3 was "FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE UNITED STATES DOLLARS." And at least 360 had backwards compatibility on most every title I wanted to play.

Now, they don't have me at Halo, they don't have BC, they have the same if not worse online and store policies and monetization encouragement, they're forcing Kinect down our throats, they wanted severely restrictive DRM although at least they temporarily backtracked on that. But I'm done, I didn't like them so much with 360 but I went along with it anyway, and I'm not doing it anymore.

Drop the price to $450. That way when compared to the PS4 w/ PS Eye it comes out $10 cheaper. And Titanfall looks promising imo. I'll wait a while to learn more about their exclusives and hardware reliability, been burned by 2 RRODs.

I'm deffinetly buy xbo first.

I watch tv.
I own blurays
I can't wait to snap gaf
IR blaster
Auto login
Titanfall
Project spark
DR3
Xbl
Challenges
That's all I have for now

I'll buy the more powerful hardware when its loaded with software I want

I'm done with xbox and xbox live when they auto charged my credit card and refused to refund the $8 after I told them I hadn't used their service once that month. It had nothing to do with the money and everything to do with principle... lost a customer for life.

Release DirectX source code, allowing easy wrappers.
No eh?

Only way to get me on board again is.

1. Drop the price/drop Kinect
2. Perfect Dark sequel
3. Banjo-Kazooie sequel

and like 5+ more exclusives.

...The fact you listed IR blaster makes me sad. You have no clue about what that means, do you? HDMI CEC should be all you need. If you have to use the IR blaster, you have a weird setup. Plus, they don't even include an IR blaster cable.

They can't. They've shown me their vision of the future and I am not their demographic.

If I get the console at all, it will be used and cheap, just like most or all of the games I buy. I will give them as little of my money as possible.

Heh I actually don't 100% know. I assume it will turn on my tv and receiver?

Not to mention the "it would be just like Steam!" trick. If Microsoft wanted to seriously compete in that space, they would have offered enough competitive advantages to make gamers prefer XBL over Steam as a digital gaming platform. XBL never had anything close to a Steam Summer Sale, Steam cards etc.

The part about not XBL not having anything close to the Summer Sale is not really true. They have had some big digital sales this year.

Also, the 360 is/was deeply rooted in retail. The One would have been their chance to try and be like Steam as a digital platform, but they didn't get the chance.

See. Right there. You're quoting things as reasons that you want the Xbox One and you actually have no clue how it works. Don't you find that a bit sad?

HDMI CEC is what you'll be using. The slim PS3s already have this. The Xbox 360 doesn't. The HDMI cable should do everything you need.

That is a brutal list compared to God of War, Sly, Last of Us, Ratchet, Beyond, Rain, Dust 514, LBP Hub, Puppeteer and Gran Turismo.

Massive price drop

Massive dedication to AAA first party games

It'll never be a primary system, but I may pick it up later in the gen if it has a lot of killer exclusive content.

Was always getting PS4 but what could get me to go with an extra console? (I wouldnt mind it as my brother is an XBot so MP would be nice.

1) Drop the price 150.00. It is less powerful and I would not use it for multiplat so I am not paying more than the PS4 and it would have to be less. Kinect or Kinect-less I don't care.

2) Bring something new to the table that is Gaming related. Not NFL, not TV control, or any other non game feature. Maybe Oculus Rift support or something.

3) Remove Pay Wall for features that I am already paying for (Netflix, Internet, etc). If you want me to pay for MP that is fine especially if you are providing dedicated servers.

4) Become more consumer friendly. This has been a horrible display of business ethics and customer loyalty. It is a business I get it but there are varying degrees of customer support/satisfaction they can move on.

- Good amount of exclusives and massive first party support (no timed 'exclusive' DLC thanks)
- Console revision that's half the size
- Proven reliability
- GUI that isn't complete wank and riddled with adverts
- No Kinect
- Pure, dedicated offline focused console

or

Project Gotham Racing 5 and Geometry Wars 3

They can't. They gave up on my demographic as soon as they saw Nintendo rake it in with the Wii. I'm done with the stupid avatars, Kinect, paywalls on services I already pay for, catering to the Call of Dudebro crowd, all that shit.

Maybe if they learn some humility next gen I'll check them out then. This gen I'll sit back and watch the $499 trainwreck from the sideline.

Hate to be that guy..

1.Price drop.
2.Conker/Banjo/PerfectDark

I'm not as anti-kinect as I was at the start, but for me the system just doesn't have the games I'm interested in at the moment, and the price + game initial investment is quite steep.

With that said I'm also not getting a PS4 since it doesn't have any games that I feel are "must haves" at this time either.

I can't trust them anymore. They tried to take my rights and failed.
If i support them and in whatever point in the future they gain enough controlling power over the industry, how I know they won't do it again? with fail safe this time

For me to buy one it would have to be kinect free, slim model (current is retarded big) and a crap ton of good exclusives I missed by going ps4, pc. So I doubt i'm getting one until the end of next gen if at all. Probably not at all. I can't justify paying the online subscription price on 2 systems.

Due to their near nonexistent indie and Japanese developer support they've lost their opportunity to be my primary system, but maybe in two years or so after a price drop I'll pick one up if there are enough AAA exclusives to warrant it.

I think the industry move away from exclusives is only going to accelerate though, so it's going to be pretty tough to justify a system purchase just for 1st party Halo games. Some of Microsoft's currently unknown and unproven 1st party devs are really going to have to execute and shore up Microsoft's 1st party lineup.

If they do another 180 and remove the Kinect, that would be the last straw. I would never buy XB1 in that circumstance. Well, certainly not for $399. The Kinect is about the only "uniquely interesting" thing the XB1 has going for it. Get rid of that and you've just got a PS4, except slower. And with better online.

What they need to remove is the Kinect price premium. If Microsoft wants to force everybody to purchase the Kinect, with all benefits currently sight unseen, then they can by-god pick up the tab for it! Or, at least subsidize the shit out of it. As it is now, only Microsoft seems to think the Kinect will be super useful, and yet everybody except Microsoft is being forced to pay for it. It might suck!

Now, I personally believe that the Kinect might be cool. And I certainly believe that it has to be packed into every SKU, or it will be ignored by developers just like the first Kinect was. But since Microsoft has not shown us any evidence of this theoretical future coolness, I'll be damned if I'll plunk down $100+ of my money, just to be part of some grand experiment.

So, again to repeat:

  • XB1 plus Kinect for $499 -- Hell, no. That's too much to pay, even if the Kinect turns out to be sweet.
  • XB1 with no Kinect for $399 -- Still no. You just described a slightly shoddier version of the PS4. I can get an actual PS4 for that.
  • XB1 plus Kinect for $399 -- Okay, now you're starting to appeal to those of us who have some "faith" in the Kinect. Maybe a bit slower than the PS4, but it's got that fairly snazzy camera...
  • XB1 plus Kinect for $349 -- Now you're starting to appeal to the folks that don't even want the Kinect. It's (at worst) a slightly cheapafied PS4 at this point, and if the Kinect does pan out, that's an actual damn good value.
  • XB1 without Kinect for $299. This is the last ditch, "get out of hell" SKU. Rolled out only when all else has failed. This is the "Faster Wii U, except with games" SKU. And at that price, it might even sell to the imaginary demographic that buys consoles to watch TV on.

Nothing. They've tipped their hand and showed us all what their vision of the future holds. They may not implement it today or tomorrow but they'll keep pushing it.

As long as there is an alternative to that, there's nothing they can do.
This is where I'm at.
