ROB was the reason nes got the attention it did though. You got to remember when Nintendo were to be reviving the game industry they had to stay away from the depiction of video games as games. US was just about burnt out on them. They had to market the nes as a toy hence rob.

But why though? He's hardly iconic anymore. Yeah he had a popular NES game, and there's the DK connection, but there's not much iconic impact there. Just my opinion, as I would not exactly complain if Popeye was in Smash.

My impression of ROB was that he was the reason that retailers were willing to stock Nintendo consoles. Because they were just toys and not toxic video games.
So while he wasn't the reason the NES took off, per se, he was the reason the NES was able to be sold in the first place. At least that's my understanding.

Yeah that's what I posted. But ROB isn't the reason people bought the NES, I think that was more because of Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt. ROB was just the thing that got retailers to stock it and got some attention for the system before it came out.

It seems like some people can't actually post an argument against it besides posting animated gifs.
I still haven't seen a single argument against why he shouldn't be a character besides that he was created long before videogames existed, but why should that exclude a character that has a long history of videogames and would make for an excellent fighting game character, especially in this type of fighting game.
Like I've posted before Batman has had a lot more games on Nintendo platforms then Snake, and a lot more games on Nintendo platforms then some of the other characters in Smash.

Batman wouldn't work in Smash. The long development cycles for video games mean he would have enough prep time to become more overpowered than 100 Metaknights.

Because Batman didn't originate from a game, he's a comic book character. Just because he's had a couple of games on the SNES doesn't make a him worthy of a character, its not like his games helped bring out the system either.
There's nothing for him, his games weren't all that great, and he doesn't fall into any category of how a character can get in.
He would not fit in this game at all, and I don't see he could even be properly represented. Besides he already in a fighting game, that's more his style.
Oh, and it would be complete crap for Batman to take a spot, from a very much deserving third-party character.

What points? I think you can do that for anything, ninja turtles, power rangers, powerpuff girls, superman, buffalo wild wings. It really dont make a whole lost of sense. I think you are serious, but this could easily be the best troll in history of the internet.
As I posted before he's not just had a few games, he's had over 25 games on nearly ever Nintendo system released (besides the Virtual Boy) with him as the main character, not counting other games where is is not the main character. He's also currently in a hugely popular and critically acclaimed series of games, two of which will be on the Wii U.
I'm not sure how someone could think he couldn't be properly represented in the game, he has tons of gadgets you could put in as B moves. The grappling hook, batarangs, smoke pellets, small explosives.
Why should it matter if he's appeared in other fighting games? Should there never be any fighting game crossovers? Should Link have not appeared in Soul Caliber 2?
