South Shroud or Eastern La Noscea.

Choose whichever race you like (it really doesn't matter in the long run).

You can always switch jobs later.

Gladiator (Paladin) = tank.
Conjurer (White Mage) = healer.

From what I've seen you unlock Paladin once you get Gladiator to 30 and Conjuror to 15 right?

SE fucked up big time by not making the multi-classing more relevant. Had a really cool experience leveling up my Pugilist in the Ul'dah starting areas. Very few people were running fates and I was attempting ones that were 2-3 levels above my level. This isn't a problem when many people are doing the same. The world bosses especially are very brutal with such small, underleveled numbers.

Anyhow, about 3 people including myself were attempting a world boss. Two GLD and myself. It was pretty obvious our HP would never last and if we had only been using our standard attacks we would have never defeated it. Lucky for me I had Physick equipped and managed to keep the tank healed. Between the three of us we stacked all the dots we could (from MRD and ARC) and we managed to win. The boss was level 14 and I think all of us were under 10.

FFXI promoted a similar kind of idea. Give you're fighters magic spells through subjobs! But in reality it never worked like that since the spells would be completely ineffective even at low levels (and you would barely have any mana to cast). This was there chance to make it better.

yeah, when you're starting out the class/ability systems seem to have a lot of missed potential, so close yet so far. I have to say though, there is some interesting/challenging gameplay to found later on, it's mainly the character customization that they need to work on -- it's hard to really be different from another person playing the same job at the same level. Hopefully they'll expand the cross class stuff at some point.

If you play a White Mage it is pretty much required to get Swiftcast. How much more relevant do you want?

Though I will say, many of the other cross class skills for WHM are super lame.

The problem (in my opinion) is that you have 5 slots and no more than 5 good choices, so there's basically no choice/customization in the system, just more required leveling. The system is still cool, but it could be much more exciting with more choice.

Basically all of them. For a healing WHM, you pretty much just need swiftcast and eye for an eye.

Ready to start subbing and jumping back into the game now that I'm 80% through GTA V. Looking at the prices it seems I might as well get the entry fee since I see no reason to create alts in this game at all.

Also possible, but I have sense turned it on and off several times trying to tell.

Of course, expectancy bias :)

It's not a placebo. There is a specific technical reason why it improves latency, which has been explained a few times.

Actually helped me a lot in CM, I was constantly getting hit by aoe spawning under my feet and after installing that latency thing the problem disappeared

My post was refering specifically to Ultrabum; but yeah. Glad people having issues in this area found a fix.

They don't add one time passwords.

Even still, what are they doing that's allowing hackers to get their username/password in the first place? Keylogger? ..actually falling for that "powerleveling" service that all of those dudes advertise where they require you to give them your username/password?

Likely from reusing login/password info from other places, which themselves get hacked.

Blizzard hotliners once told me keyloggers and malwares/spywares were the most common culprit. Some people I've played WoW with got hacked similarly for no reason.

Authenticators/one time passwords help, I guess.

Could also be some weakness on SE's end. I just hope they're as helpful as Blizzard guys in hacking cases.

For the first time ever...

I'm actually having fun doing the main quest in an MMO :P it feels like an actual FF game story wise with a side of mmo

When is the expected time Behemoth and Odin are gonna show up again? on the Ultros Server...?

Would be nice to know the time they usually show up... :P

Several people have said that the Android app works with that Bluestacks thing. I think that's what it's called anyway. Lets you run Android apps on a PC.

That's interesting to know, and I'm gonna try it out. But, in case it doesn't work out, can I disable the one time password stuff? Wouldn't want to end up locked out of my account.

I just noticed that the Lightning event will take place in Mor Dhona.

Now I understand why one of the Mor Dhona camp's music takes its melody from XIII-2!

Got my first 50(s) tonight! SMN and SCH, still trying to decide which one i want to dedicate ACN (stats) to. Definitely need to switch it up and play something non-cast-y for a while now.

Ok, it looks like the psn stuff has been mostly worked out.
Hopping into this game now, anything I should know? Any tips?
I'm probably aiming for Bard, but will level everything.
I hear cats are everywhere, is this true?

You won't even be able to attach it to your account unless the app works, because you need info obtained from within the app to finish the registration process. And if you're in there, you can also get the emergency removal code.

Managed to solo the Chimera in Cutter's down the for the last 10% of it's health after the rest of my pug ate it. Feelsgoodman.jpg

I know space is limited, etc, etc, but put me in the still-waiting-for-my-FC-invite camp. Ichabod Nol on Ultros. :3

Arcanist 40, yay.

Now that I think about it, I made mode progresses in this month of FFXIV than in 4 or so years of FFXI.

Dunno if it's a good thing or not. <_<

Yes, and we hate cats. Don't play cats. Play lalafell.

Sure there is! Like not having a smartphone or being unable to pay the $11 and keep sub! >_>

$11 vs the time wasted losing your character and basically having to build a new one from scratch because the entire server would have you blisted from the relentless spamming even if you did get it back.

I mean, it's $11, less than one month of subbing this game...:(

Pick whatever race you want.

But yeah, the most played races are cats and hyurs.

Proof that the Lalafell's aren't nearly as cool as the Tarus. Almost all the gain for Miquote people came as the expense of the Lalafels (and a lot from the Elezen too)

The_8th_Vanadiel_Census_%2805-16-2008%29-Race.jpg

For people who don't like math. Here's the added male and female numbers.

Tarutaru - 29.89% (down 13% points in FFIXV)
Hume - 28.97% (up 4% points in FFXIV)
Elvan - 18.19% (down 7% points in FFXIV)
Mithra - 15.47% (up 17% points in FFXIV)
Galka - 7.48% (steady)

Kind of interesting that adding a male option for the Miqote more than doubled the Mithra count in FFXI, yet adding a female choice for Roegadyn did nothing.
