I'm hoping to finish the main story-line tomorrow, but we'll see how it goes. I'm still doing all of the side-quests in the areas that they main quests take me despite not getting XP for them [since I'm already level 50].

Oh well, at least I'm getting more out of the story as well as coins to sell at merchants for gil.

Try and make a pre made of people who are not intenting to speed run CM or Praetorium or you will have to skip cutscenes or face backlash ;/

On the subject of scaling: what happens if I bring my scholar to a lower level dungeon--will I be able to summon my fairy?

Unfortunately, when they scale down your level, you only have the skills that you would normally have at that level.

Which, kinda bites from an endgame perspective. I'd play the earlier dungeons a lot more if I didn't have to re-aqaint myself with my lower level Tanking methods each time I started out.

Granted, they'd be even easier than they already are, but dangit, I kinda want to rescue the new players anyway. XD

This is unfortunately true. Thankfully I managed to go into the last dungeon with half the party pre-made, and the other half also happened to either be new to the dungeon, or uninterested in speed running.

Would've been an about ideal set-up, if we hadn't ran into maintenance. Looking forward to watching those last few cutscenes I had to skip. XD

Aw in other MMOs I loved going back to do lower level areas that used to kick my butt :(

Edit:

Just saw what you posted Xux. Thanks! Totally gunna try that out once maintenance is done. Kudos! :D

It's not entirely clear actually. Supposedly equipment stats get parred down, but not entirely. Replaying the early dungeuns in near-endgame gear is a breeze, even if every other stat is identical. Granted, some of that's just having more experience, but I definitely notice my character dealing heavier damage as well.

Yea I assumed it gets scaled down and lets say armor has +12 STR and you go to a lvl 30 dungeon and your armor has +3 STR

I am sure the better armor will have a higher bonus no?

I also have some points to make:

First I want to say that now since I am lvl 40 and doing a lot more dungeons and in an FC etc I am starting to enjoy the game a lot more. I really hated the solo aspect of the game at the beginning. The game was so unsocial :\

1. What's up with pairing people in Duty Finder cross server? What if I met a great player and want to play with them more? Again this goes into the social aspect I mentioned earlier. As annoying as making parties in FF11 was, at least you get to meet people and learn how to play.

2. What happens if you get to lvl 50 and do quests? do you get exp or do you lose it?

3. Is it true you get some kind of EXP bonus if you are lvl 50 and start to lvl other jobs? Otherwise if you finish your quests, how do you lvl the other jobs? FATE?

4. Attribute points: are they like merits from FF11? They seem to not be permanent right? I didnt touch that yet

I am sure you will have more questions later :D

Thanks again everyone

A week after coming back I can safely say that I'm having a lot of fun... The only thing that is a bit disappointing are the waiting time to get into a group with the duty finder as a DD, it wouldn't be a problem if dungeons were optional, but for the main story line you have to use it quite often... Yesterday to get into the fight for Ifrit I think I had to wait for something like an hour...

By the way I'm currently a lvl 27 lancer, didn't level up anything else, should I start doing it or I can wait till I hit 50?

Now, there is Shield Oath, but that is the counterpoint to WAR's Defiance and +25% HP on top of their other +HP skills is no joke, especially when both WHM and SCH have some healing skills that restore based on % of HP to synergize with that and WAR will be steadily recovering their own HP too. Also, their "+ healing taken" type effects are stronger and seem more consistent than a PLD, and these abilities affect their own self recovery as well.

A couple of corrections there - warriors don't have any +HP skills other than Defiance, they also don't have any +healing taken skills other than Defiance. ( Convalescence is gladiator skill ).

Defiance should really be 25% hp, 25% healing to match shield oath's -20% damage, but 25%/15% is close enough for non end-game stuff.

Shield block and self healing should match each other, but in practice it doesn't work out like that - Storm's Path is unusable when aggro is tight, suboptimal when you want to keep the slashing debuff up, and wastes half of maim's duration if you have no other constraints. Inner beast is great solo or in light groups, but using it when main tanking is almost always stupid unless you have infuriate off cooldown, and a 1k heal every 3 minutes isn't really helping anyone.

Anyone that is in your party with you, will get dragged into the event with you if you activate the Duty Finder. That is of course, if your party all match the dungeons pre-requisites.

So, yes, you can play dungeons entirely with close friends, guild members, people from your own server, etc etc.

Okay, I haven't played FF XIV for quite some time and I'm still only lvl. 9 but I hope to reach lvl. 15 today. Only got to lvl. 14 in the beta.

Which are the two mandatory for story and do they have extensive cut-scenes? I'm trying to decide whether I should save those for a "relaxed" GAF FC run.
As it's been implied the 2 dungeons are Castrum and Preatorium. They are both very heavy on cutscenes (much more so than any dungeon before). And since they are also full party dungeons you are almost guaranteed to have people wanting to speedrun them in a duty finder group. Especially Castrum as it is the most efficient way to farm tomestones of philosophy.

Anyone here in need of a Mumble server? I've set up my own and kind wanted to see how this thing performs. So far I've had 8 people and it was fine but I really wanna stress it to see how much of the hardware it takes and the bandwidth.

I can make u guys admin and feel free to create your own rooms and invite other people, just don't mess with other already created rooms and don't post it in any public places.

If anyone is interested PM me for server details.

I hope they let us replay the earlier dungeons without a need to level sync. I want to nuke enemies with Holy.

In the really low level dungeons you can do all three roles if Holy was available to use. Tank damage, heal yourself, damage and keep aggro with Holy. It'd be beautiful.
It'd fail.

No thanks, I already pulled tank and healer duty before, not very fun to juggle two roles.

Man, the quests are kinda bottoming out a little at the 41-43 range for some reason.

But is it normal to want to Fate grind to level 50 literally just so I can get the Artifact Armor because the other armor pieces are starting to look like shit again? I might also dedicate a day to grind up my lancer to 34 for Blood for Blood (just so I can pull my weight in dungeons as a DPS more), but I have no frame of reference for how long that would take.

I wouldn't rush to 50 just for AF because once you're 50 AF will last you like 5 minutes.

I know that and I have been doing that. But its not the same, especially with cross server DF

You get most AF pieces at lv 45.

at what point do you get the 30 points ? I've finish the story, the GC ranks. Do you get them after beating the 3 HM primals ?

Something curious I noticed at http://en.xivmodels.com/ the FFXI Lamia and Merrow models are in the data files. They're mislabeled as Siren I-III under Beastmen. But I don't believe there are any Lamia or Merrows in game at present. Mystery of Shiva's beast tribe solved?

A couple of corrections there - warriors don't have any +HP skills other than Defiance, they also don't have any +healing taken skills other than Defiance. ( Convalescence is gladiator skill ).

I'm going by the wiki on their skills. Thrill of Battle was already mentioned, Conval I wasn't including actually but is a cross class skill so they can use that too.

But that was also my point. if WARs do not have at least a somewhat equal amount of self healing/+HP stuff to make up for the PLD damage reduction abilities (and PLD has quite a few, I'm counting 5 without adding cross class) then that needs to be properly addressed. Their ability to stun much more frequently than WAR is a pretty big deal as well. It would be another thing if WAR had less but they were much more powerful than the multiple PLD abilities to compensate, but that doesn't seem to really be the case. It's also hard for me to tell because I'm not doing the content where I am being told it is a bigger deal, so i have no firsthand knowledge of how severe it is in those specific scenarios.

The level restrictions on quest are really annoying. If I can kill the enemies required for the quest let me do it. Especially when the enemies in a quest happen to be of a lower level then the quest level requirement!!! This roadblock is really frustrating. Forcing me to do leves or run around between Fates. In fact I've been actively looking for Fates to do since I made it to the Costa Del Sol area and now that I'm in the Coerthas region. The pay out for leves for your level range aren't worth the effort and time expended upon them. This is on top of having the rest experience bonuses. I don't know what I'd be doing if I didn't actually have that to soften things.

Wow. The gold sellers are completely taking over this game. lol I have never seen it this bad on a MMO before. I mean the F2P Korean ones have it kind of bad, but not this bad.

In other news, I have this urge to for a bigger challenge. Titan, Isgebind, and the other dungeons so far have been rather easy to me.

Haha, this is probably old news for everyone but me, but after 20 hours of play I finally took a look at the Log Filters menu. Love the sample texts they give there for every entry like for Custom Emotes "Cloud Stife wallows in self-pity".
Which is somewhat related to the post above, because I wanted to turn off Shouts to at least get rid of some of the spam.

I really hate Titan HM by now. Every time I can get in a mumble group (because I just prefer it with voice chat) it ends up being like 3 am in the morning for me,. Can't concentrate on the fight cause I'm too tired and can't be too loud or I wake everyone up.

Then my router resets daily around 3 am but never at the exact same time, I get locked out of the game through 3102, give up and go to bed. :/

Not really sure about doing it with shout groups, as apparently one FC is deliberately sabotaging those to make people want to buy runs on Ultros...

You find even better armor than that so quickly? I have been using this chart as an endgame rubric, and it seems like you get new gear as soon as WP?

True, but I think you at least get the chest piece from your level 50 class quest.
That's true. But accessories aside you're mostly appropriately geared for the story by just following the quest lines and their rewards. You don't need to rush to 50 to get your AF chestpiece for Stone Vigil, Dzemael Darkhold or Aurum Vale.

The need to go out of your way to upgrade equipment starts at level 50 not before it.

Guys, please help! Somewhere in this thread people were talking about getting your GPU settings to override FFXIV's (ie. antialiasing, etc) to increase performance and visual quality. I can't find that post but I need it desperately - anybody remember this?

No. I was wrong there. It was like that in FFXI, but in this they appear to be using bots. I didn't expect them to be bots cause I figured they would be detected and banned. The fact that these people aren't banned despite doing it in shout and stuff really has me puzzled.

Those bastards are using hacked accounts too, I swear I saw a guy in Sarg shouting but he was a CNJ I partied with and spoke to normally a month ago.
