XB1 Retail Version of Battlefield 4 Will Still Run at 720p, 60 FPS, EA Rep confirms

Make the PS4 version minimum 900p and I'll consider it. Really though it should be 1080p, but I'll settle for lower given the is a launch title. 720p can forget about it though.

Both is shit because it's not native to your display. The damage is done as soon as upscaling is involved. Whatever, I'm not surprised. XB1 is just too weak. Still surprised that people are going to shell out 500 bucks for it.

64 players at 60fps is all that matters.
That's it.

Honestly no

Not in battlefield, some other arena shooters sure

At 720p on larger scaled maps you're going to have trouble making out certain things. In a game like this where spotting, long range shooting, etc is huge it really takes its toll on gameplay.

Shit, I struggle getting a bead on long range shooters sometimes at 1080p on my PC monitor that my face is right in front of. I can't even imagine 720p, let alone on a couch or something.

Hey. At least the Xbox One has a good internal upscaler. That's something. Right guys.

Had no problem on 360 BF3. No problem at all.
Resolution beef is straight nerd talk.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT:

And see also:

the main purpose of the thread though is that the Xbox One version of BF4 will be 720p

we need to try to confirm this.... the PS4 resolution info though is jumbled and where just grasping at straws here... but its leaning on it also being 720p

BF5, hopefully once they shed the need to cross develop for PS360, should be way better. 1080p no problem!

It seems like the fact that its also on current gen makes it feel MORE ridiculous that its not 1080p, though. If they can't get a next gen version of a game thats on current gen to 1080p, I doubt they'll target a higher resolution when they suddenly don't have current gen bottlenecks to worry about. This seems to set a bad precedent for future console Battlefields.

:lol

Sorry to burst your bubble but KZ is no longer a corridor shooter. You also don't know the size of the maps.

And BF4 is not an open world game.
BF3 map design 101: huge level with all the flags bunched up together in the middle. BF maps have only gotten smaller with every release. What's the point of a huge map if the actually area that has all the action is tiny.

Still a KZ vs BF comparison isn't exactly fair since BF has a lot more players, vehicles and more extensive destruction. With that in mind KZ should look better.

How so when DICE already stated they have the product running @ 900p within their development environment?

Final product will likely be 900p, or 1080p native if they are able to optimize well enough by launch.

And still, a straight ported PC to PS4 game will basically have the potential of that from a 7850. Can a 7850 run BF4 @ 1080p x 60fps? Only if you go with Medium settings, no AA, etc.

In fact, at ultra settings, with 16x AF, 4x AA, etc. the 7850 only does 30fps on Battlefield 3 when speaking 1080p x 60fps

Is the garbage cpu the reason for this game not hitting 1080p?

I think the number one reason is Time, These games are being rushed out to meet deadlines. I'm sure with more time and optimization they could get it running at 1080p/60fps but that ain't happening, at least on consoles anyways..

Serious question, have you seen Shadow Fall? Killzone Shadow Fall murks this game in terms of visual flair, and does so by running at 1080p and 60 FPS. This is all blood on DICE's hands.

Sometimes. We will see when it's released.

This resolution shit for launch games is messy as hell to keep track of. Every day with the 'targeting' this and 'aiming at' that. These developers should probably not mention what they're targeting til they know what they can actually hit, because gamers are too impatient about how game development works, developers end up never hitting the loftier goals anyway, and in the end everyone usually ends up disappointed.
The lead up to a console launch is literally the worst time to do technical analysis and announcement of features. Things can change daily and the final hardware has only been in devs hands for a few months. There is more shifting and tweaking going on now than there will be at any other point in the gen. Games that are going to be released on 5 or 6 platforms are even more screwed due to how much more work they need to have done to get them working on current gen instead of being optimized for next gen. The division of labor on cross gen titles is massive.

Or perhaps a selling point for the next version? "All new 1080p graphics, like never before!"

Oh god, are you going to argue that Battlefield is open world now?

Looks like Im gonna put the panny 720p Plasma back in the basement with the PS4, seems like letting it output everything in 720p is the smart choice for now

Whatever words you wish to describe it with, the scale and scope differences between killzone and battlefield muliplayer are drastic. That is why this thread exists. That is by you need so much more hardware power to do it, something which is lacking in comparison to what people needed to run bf3 with higher settings at 1080p.

For gaming I sit about 4 feet (1.50m) away from my 42 inch TV. The difference between 720p and 1080p material is like night and day.
Describe your set up. You have to be in the minority there at that distance from that size screen.

How close do you guys sit next to your TV?

"Generally speaking, if you sit more than 10 feet away from your TV, and your display isn’t bigger than 50 inches diagonally, you won’t be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080."

I sit 2 feet away from my 2560x1600 monitor and like 3-4 feet away from my 46 inch 1080p TV.

I see everything.

When I watch TV or movies, I sit on the couch that is a good bit away from the TV but when I am in the gaming I put my seat right in front of the TV like 4 feet away maximum lol.

Reading the first post I wondered why they would apparently stop optimizing the Xbox One version but keep working on the PS4 one. Now to read the thread...

3-4' from a 46" TV?

Jesus. I have a 46" TV and I sit like 7' away from it. Some of you guys are gonna fuck your eyes up.

To get BF3 running at 1080p x 60fps on the PC you need around a Radeon 7970 if you want the max PC experience with all the bullet points.

That is a 300$ + card.

Don't listen to the hype peeps. Even most PC gamers do not have that card in their systems. Meaning they are also not playing 1080p x 60fps, unless they compromise fidelity for framerate. Which most do.

Bah, Xbox 360 was an hardware that I liked, with a 'philosophy' that I liked [the first years].
With Xbox One MS seems is fucking all the way.
All the way.
Also self-nullifying the only reason I should desire the console, Titanfall, by bring it on PC.

The saddest thing is that the most accredited responsibles of this mess, Mattrick and Ballmer, are jumping off the boat, leaving it in troubles.
Good luck out there, Xbone.

Xbox 360 was a gamer's machine for the first couple of years. I fucking loved that. In one of the "making of" videos that came preinstalled with launch units, there was a clip of the Xbox team having frequent Halo 2 tournaments. They went into great detail about the console design, new controller, and the vastly improved Xbox LIVE infrastructure.

Xbox One isn't getting squat, and is clearly being made as an "all-in-one" machine like the PS3 was early on.

You can get 1080p60 on midrange cards if you lower settings to high (or maybe medium depending on your GPU) and disable AA. It doesn't really look too different from max settings.

Haha. Don't sit so close then. :P

I sit About 9 feet away and can't tell the difference. If we're talking about being In front of a monitor then I'd agree.

The difference of 1080p, 900p and 720p can really only be seen in motion; I just lowered my resolution to said lower resolutions and while the game doesn't look so terrible it's noticeably blurry especially 720p in motion. I wish people would stop comparing KZ to BF, because KZ is as close to BF's league as the moon is to the sun. KZ won't have maps as big as BF and with only 24 players it's nothing to brag about. Honestly KZ only impressed me with the grenade explosions, other than that it looks no better than what I'm already use to. With BF4, you have vastly larger maps with a player count GG could only dream of. On top of what BF4 already features, it has destruction and somewhat dynamic maps so please don't compare something as simple as KZ to BF. I still think BF4 on the consoles will be a great experience so console players shouldn't worry; if you want the better visuals then get a PC, it's as simple as that.

Well, I agree the plains / tanks / 64 players etc is surely more hardware intense...but KZ's graphics are also far more demanding.

We have no idea what game needs more rops and flops, but neither is open world.

disable the MSAA and the performance will at least double.

How and what evidence tells you that? A few gifs the size of stamps?
