Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

I would like to repost this one to keep it in people's minds.

Whenever I would post tidbits about this, I got a couple of requests to make this its own thread, so I decided to go ahead go through with it.

So, the boxing ring stage. You've seen it, I'm sure. Some people aren't exactly sure if it's a Punch Out related stage, if it's a Kirby themed stage, or just a generic new boxing ring stage just for kicks. Well, I'm gonna tell you that this stage is a Punch Out themed stage for a multitude of reasons. So let's begin I guess...

First off, the audience is human, so you can rule out any possibility that this is a Kirby themed stage (all Kirby boxing rings have Kirby characters instead). The marquee's in the background are all dot styled, which is consistent with the marquees in Punch Out Wii, and even the title screen and round indicators for Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

All logos in Punch Out Wii are adorned with clusters of stars, which are usually in 3's because triple star punches are the most powerful punch in the game, as well as the "leaf vines" on the sides (forgive me; I don't know the term for this) and a giant star somewhere in the middle. The logo in the ring, while being smash themed, shares all of these characteristics.

The ring ropes are also identical in both color and configuration as the Major Circuit ring in Punch Out Wii. Similarly, the corners are all identical colors and positions as the Punch Out Wii corners. The logo in Smash also features a ribbon at the top, which is a direct throwback to the World Circuit ribbon at the top and bottom of the logo.

Also, as a random tidbit, the ribbon in the Smash Punch Out stage says "CHAMPIONSHIP" on it, which is probably because if it straight up said "Major Circuit" on it, it would be flat out obvious. Plus since Smash Bros doesn't have "circuits", championship makes more sense in the context of the game.

The final fight in Punch Out Wii, Mr. Sandman, has a very particular entrance for both his Title Defense and Contender fights. He approaches the ring while there's a green laser light show that goes on behind him. Well, check this out...

But yeah, there are an abundance of intentional details that suggest this stage is designed to be a Punch Out stage. There may be a few details that I'm missing, but those were all the details I seemed to notice. Unsure if this confirms Mac being a character, but at the very least there's a stage from the Punch Out series in the game.

Yeah, Punch-Out stage is Punch-Out stage. Kinda bugs me that we aren't told that that's what it is. I guess Sakurai didn't want people to jump to conclusions about a character being playable.

Stage =/= playable character.

But damn, Little Mac is my most wanted character so I sure as hell hope he's in. I would main that day one. So many memories of playing Punch-Out as a kid...and I always default to boxers in fighting games. Played Steve Fox, Balrog, and watched Hajime no Ippo twice. Big boxing fanboy.
 
That and Mac + Stage would make a great event match. Either as Mario, where you avoid getting knocked out so you can call the match, or as Mac where you have to avoid knocking out Ref Mario or your KO won't count. I guess the opponent would be Donkey Kong.

and I guess I'll do a wishlist thing too, though I'll keep it simple-ish.

My Wish List

For Characters
I mostly just want a grand majority of the old characters to return. Including ones left out of Brawl. There're some unrealistic desires for newcomers (Like Leif for Fire Emblem), but for the most part I like Nintendo's catalog well enough that just about ANY additional newcomers would be welcome.

For Stages
I've got a really specific one for this: I'd love to see Famicom Detective Club given a nod via a stage. I imagine it as if someone is playing the game and moving between areas/investigating/talking to people and as those happen the background changes and different stage hazards form. Probably some level of interaction too, like being able to mash into background items to cause different things in the scene to happen/the "player" to do different things.

For Trophies
Retro characters in full 3D. Everywhere. I was so disappointed in Brawl when 90% of the trophies present seemed to just be borrowed models from other recent games.

For Assist Trophies and Pokeballs
Delibird plz.

For Single modes
Nothing special to wish for. Just lots and lots of content to explore, which Sakurai is pretty good on delivering.

For Online Mode
Working.
Also! Downloadable event matches.
 
My Wish List

Characters.
Ridley, Mewtwo, Dixie Kong, Little Mac, Sukapon. Aside from Ridley and Sukapon my other top 5 are just about guaranteed. If they don't show up, of well, Donkey Kong and Bowser are eternal.
Too bad for Sukapon though, on the Melee Dojo Sakurai actually mentioned he considered him but thought of him to be too obscure. Some of his music was in Brawl though in Famicom Medley.

Stages.
I don't care too much as long as there are at least 10 stages that would be considered for competitive play. Already I am loving the layout of Pyroshpere(hopefully Ridley doesn't F it all up), Pilot Wings, Fire Emblem Awakening, Dr Whiley's fortress(Yelllow Devil I know), and what we've seen of that Kid Icarus Stage.

Otherwise just give me the setting where the final battle took place in Wind Waker or Skyward Sword. That and Bowser's Castle. Oh and some Pirate Ship from any of the Donkey Kong Country games.

Online
It just needs to work and give me the option of lobbies for 1vs1, 2vs2, Free for all, etc.

Single Player
Board the Platforms, individual hit the targets(though that would equate to a heck of a lot), Home Run Contest, the usual pretty much. I would like something brand new though, not sure what, but something I can compare scores with.

Collectibles
Trophies, Paintings, Box Arts like in Kirby's Dream Collection.

Misc.
Give Bowser and Donkey Kong their usual game voices. Give us actual character costumes. Not random tekken jeans and jackets, give us Tanookie suits, sports uniforms, and what ever the heck else the characters have actually worn in their games.

All I really care about is the roster. I could make do with whatever stages, trophies, and game modes we get. I'm not worried about any of that.

Ideally, I'd like everyone from Brawl to return along with Mewtwo. As for newcomers, the two I wanted to see the most have already been confirmed (Villager and Mega Man) -- anything else is icing on the cake. So long as there are at least ten new characters total, I'm good.

Game Misc.
Stats - Shows a characters strength, speed, stage recovery difficulty, etc.
Wario more proportionate in size and limbs, more Wario World inspired moveset
Bowser to have more realistic voice from Mario and Luigi games instead of some generic Godzilla sounding roars. DK can keep his current sound cause he sounds retarded on DKCR/DKCR Tropical Freeze. Or better yet have him sound like he did in Donkey Kong 64.
Alternate costumes from the character's past.
Post match awards, like KO Artist, Pratfaller, etc.
More in-depth Custom Matches. Ability to mix and match different rules and whatnot. An example would be Stamina Brawl with 999% health, infinite time and everyone permanently Super Mushroomed.
Custom Tracks with Name editiing.
Complete decloning except for Luigi. I want Ganondorf to be a new moveset damn near, same with Falco, etc.

Hmm...maybe they would make a app on 3DS and Wii U? On 3DS it lets you buy alternate colors/costumes (w/e) with play coins or mini games or even with mii plaza acomplishments ala mii plaza. Having Save data from games prior will unlock things for you, which also gives incentive on buying other games. Im just brain storming here. Im really just curious what the customization Sakurai has in mind is

Oh, I'm definitely not aware of making wish lists being worst thing the gamers can do. I guess I could agreed with you since it could be WORSE than making petition to get rid of characters. Example, someone tried to make a petition to get rid of Wii Fit Trainer. (Hint: Sarcasm)

I'm pretty sure that I wrote the list because I am trying to kill time because I'm bedridden at the moment because i'm literally sick and being drugged up with medicines so pardon me for being terrible gamer that are hyping for next game and actually know for sure that almost most of my wish wouldn't happening. Only because I knew that my list isn't realistic enough to be happens.

Quit being downer on people who want to make wish lists for fun. I'm pretty sure that most of us wouldn't expect our wish lists to accurately to happens.

My Wish List

For Characters
Takamaru, Little Mac, Ridley, Female PKMN Trainer(Serena!), Lucina, Chrom, Palutena and Magnus are the one I definitely want. A roster of 50+ characters is what I truly want. Veterans like Mewtwo and Lucario should also return, with their Mega Evolutions as another character. I'd be fine if their mega forms are teir Final Smash too. Moreover, even if they have zero chance, I want Anthony from MOM and Hades.

For Stages
Mario Galaxy.Mario Galaxy.Mario Galaxy. Please. Gravity changes and comets. It needs to happen! Other than that I want Sky Pillar back and N's Castle with Zekrom, Reshiram and both forms of Kyurem randomly appearing. Sky Pillar is my favourite stage. A Xenoblade stage would be also a great addition. Lastly, I'd like more classics to return, even those from Melee and 64. The more, the better. 50-80 old and new stages would be great. And please, I hope the Custom stage creation mode is back!

For Trophies
Trophies about everything and anything. Even more compared to Brawl and Kid Icarus. I want 1000 or 1500. And I want Coin Launcher back. I loved it. Stickers' return would be nice too.

For Assist Trophies and Pokeballs
I think Frederick from FEA would be excellent as an assist trophy. Other than that, I really don't know... About Pokeballs, I want as many Gen V and VI Pokemon as possible. Sylveon, Yveltal, Zoroark, Eelectross. And even Megas like Charizard or Blastoise! I really want a ton of them, they're one of my favourite things.

For Single modes
I want a story mode. No Subspace Emissery 2 but something with funny interactions between the characters and Bosses. Bosses from the games especially. Giygas, Dr. Wily, Malladus. I need to fight them.

For Online Mode
Just to be perfect. No lag, no disconnections. 3DS and Wii U crossplay would be great too.

For Misc
Every item needs to return and about 20-30 new should be added. And please, Events. A ton of them. And alternate costumes for everyone!
 
I'd take wishlists over pages of telling each other shitty ice puns, discussions about "lol Smashgaf," and avatar betting any day of the week.

Speaking of wishlists, I have really only two wishes of my own that I really want to see, and that is a Bowser's Castle stage and an Eggplant Wizard Assist Trophy. Those are two things that I feel need to happen. Outside of that I think I'm okay. I have many niggling concerns that aren't really that big of a deal. My primary concern is more system level stuff, like hoping the game engine isn't crap and the character balance isn't terrible.

I do really hope every character (third parties included) returns, too.

Yes, relative to other video game sites, it's pretty small. IGN, GameSpot, GameFAQs, and Kotaku are all much bigger. The only point I'm trying to make here is that if Sakurai were to follow one English language site to gauge a Western consensus on Smash Bros., it wouldn't be NeoGAF. There are far more popular and mainstream alternatives. NeoGAF is certainly the most industry-friendly forum out there, but that doesn't make it big.

I'd post my wish list, but it'd be almost word for word the exact same as IntelliHeath's.
The only thing I'd add are the return of the Board the Platforms and Race to the Finish bonus stages. :)

My Wish List

For Characters
Ridley. That is the only thing I ask of thee, based Sakurai. Wolf's return, a second F-Zero character beyond Captain Falcon, and a Castlevania character (Simon Belmont) would be nice too. The chances for the latter 2 things to happen are near zero, though, and I can live with that; Wolf's return should happen tho.

For Stages
Bowser's Castle. It's about time, honestly.

Other stuff
Good music pls. But it's Smash, so it'll likely be anyway.

I don't care about anything else really.
