New Nintendo Direct Tomorrow [WiiU/3DS, games releasing later this year]

... you really don't get it. Nintendo Direct is a press release. Every other publisher maintains a blog where they release game assets. They cooperate with external magazine publishers and gaming sites to deliver assets and playthrough footage. They release press releases. That's what they do. Nintendo Direct isn't intended to be a MEGATON ANNOUNCEMENT CONFERENCE, it's intended to be the routine way in which Nintendo releases new information about games under development. The only reason anyone thinks different is because of F5 OMG BOMB ZEL DROPPEN LET'S GET UP AT 4 IN THE MORNING TO WATCH internet meme culture. Just because it happens to be streaming on its first-run doesn't mean it's supposed to be a live event spectacular.

You can continue expecting Nintendo Direct to appear every 4-6 weeks and offer footage and updates on games coming out in the near future combined with teases of far-off announcements. Just like other publishers do in magazines and on websites.

Repeat this on every page; Lord knows that people are incapable of understanding such a simple notion on their own, as demonstrated by this and every other ND thread.

3DS Miiverse

My body isn't ready

It's ready for disappointment. I'm really doubting Miiverse on 3DS is going to be announced at this ND. We might see updates of how the progress is going, but will probably be talked about at a later time.

I'd be happy with a screenshot. It's rather humiliating that smartphones have got it first.

Hoping for a new trailer of DKTF. (Complete with some more David Wise awesome sauce).

I've been down on Mario 3D World so a trailer focused on single-player would be nice...

I wonder if Shin'en's new game will be shown.

Otherwise some info on the system update and N64 VC games would be grand.

Predictions:
-Approximately 30 minutes long
-Reminder to buy games that just came out, like Wind Waker HD, W101, and Rayman
-Boring updates on first party Wii U and 3DS games releasing later this year, which is the vast majority of the direct
-The summer update is a thing, finally
-No account system, but encouraging steps like a web store and some sort of limited, independent user eShop recovery implemented
-Flipnote Studio 3D is finally coming out
-Awesome 3DS third party montage
-Pathetic Wii U third party montage
-Bill Trinen sits down in that leather chair and tells us all about upcoming digital goods and maybe some localizations
-N64 and GBA VC on Wii U launching "soon"
-Big surprise: Virtual Console HD, featuring uprezzed GameCube and Wii games
-Reggie appears at the end and we think he's going to do a "one more thing before you go" type of thing but then he doesn't. But then he does!

I'd be happy with either Flipnote or Miiverse. Need to let my creative side out! Also what was that super limited 3DS/Wii U link for VC that Emily Rogers talked about ages ago? Not that I put stock in anything she says whatsoever.

Hey, I just remembered. What about TVii for Europe? (Plus lovefilm outside of UK?)

Plus Netflix for 3DS :\ Does Wii U have Netflix in UK?

"Please note that the Nintendo #eShop will be undergoing maintenance this afternoon from 1 – 5 PM PT."

I am VERY impressed! Good stuff.

I actually threw it on my wedding registry, thinking "oh what the hell" and a couple weeks ago it showed up on my doorstep. I immediately fell in love and am fully prepared to eat crow regarding my initial statements on the Wii U.

I am still disappointed in the lack of GCN support and barely any 5.1 support, but almost everything else about it has really impressed me :)

I'm still happy with a good 3/4s of directs. And that's even counting the ones which aren't livestreamed like the dismal wii u sports/ wii fit u direct.

Essentially

Then Reggie says "Take it away Mr. Iwata". Back to Iwata where he holds out his hand and says "Thank you for sticking with us until the end". Waves goodbye, bows, (laughs).

Wait a minute: this would be the perfect timing to elaborate upon that mystery Pokemon screen.

Pokken Fighters get hype.

"Since the Pokemon are busy in Pokken, there will be no new Pokemon characters for Super Smash Bros. But don't worry, Pikachu's stuck around to represent the team!"

-N64 and GBA VC on Wii U

No no no! For god's sake no! PORTABLES ON PORTABLE. Else give me SNES games you bastards.

2013 was the biggest disappointment in the history of E3 for me. I'm done getting hyped for Nintendo events.

Nintendo E3 2013 showed footage of several Nintendo titles I want. There were few games we didn't already know about, but there were games we had never seen footage of like Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart 8; all of which look fantastic. New footage of X and the revelation of DKCTF. It was a fine E3. GAFers put too much stock in surprises. Nintendo told us about three games they would show at E3 but gave absolutely no info about them other than that they existed and that made their reveals with footage for the first time somehow meaningless in peoples' minds.

If I had to guess, I'd say this Nintendo Direct will cover games until the end of 2013. So Pokemon, Ace Attorney, Wind Waker HD, Mario, maaaaaybe DKCR3D, Watch_Dogs, and ACIV. Explanation of how Wii Fit U will work again, as well as Wii Sports U with it pre-installed on new systems. Now would be as good a time as any to reveal a Pokemon character for Smash.

I don't think there will be many, if any, bombs dropping until the January direct like last year.
Now footage of Wii U Watch_Dogs would be something interesting and new. Other than that, if it's the games we know about then it will be a yawn fear like the majority of NDs have been.

Actually it was the game they told me existed, the one that I was most hyped for, that completely disappointed. So it wasn't that I was expecting some open word FPS megaton from Retro. Instead I was disappointed by something they already announced that I was excited to see.

GBA games are confirmed for Wii U at some point, they're unlikely (IMO) to come to 3DS as none of the 3DS vc features could be used

On the old emulator they cobbled together in a few months maybe? I refuse to believe the 3DS isn't powerful enough to run GBA titles. Giving another platform to the Wii U when the 3DS VC is so pathetically scarce is almost a little insulting.

Or at least give us a more realistic time-frame.

They said "before the end of the year", it's October. There's not much room for elaboration.

But it's not Nintendo's fault that you think that a Wii U game can't be significantly better than a 3DS game that it shares visual similarities to.

.

It does run GBA titles.(Ambassador games)

The embargo is definitely about Assassin's Creed IV : Black Flag, there's a new round of preview videos online.

"After today's Nintendo Direct, don't you think Nintendo has become creatively bankrupt?"
"Nintendo really dropped the ball with today's Nintendo Direct!"
"Nintendo should drop its Nintendo Direct and make games on iOS".

Ok, only 21h22 to go :)
Not to mention the obligatory fire Iwata threads

The title says games releasing this year. If Nintendo had any massive games for fall for WiiU and 3DS they would of announced it by now. Its just going to be pokemon, super mario and DK. Maybe Lttp 2 as well.

It wasn't just GAFers. Even other boards are still complaining about Retro not making the next super duper Metroid or the fabled new Nintendo franchise. At times, I just have the impression people want to be disappointed by Nintendo.

I obviously didn't say that in any of the times I've criticized the game. It could be better than its predecessor, but that's not enough. It's not the new, fresh game many were expecting.

I don't understand why you deliberately misrepresent what other people have said, unless you really lack the comprehension to detect nuance in the argument. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it's deliberate.

I said E3 was the most disappointing for me, and I'm going to try not to get hyped for their reveals anymore. If you're happy with seeing a parade of me-too sequels, I'd suggest you get hyped. You're gonna see a lot of them.

I doubt Zelda WiiU would be playable for anyone outside of Nintendo right now, but a demo for Smash Bros WiiU would sell a few WiiU's lol
Yeah, Zelda Wii U is being announced at E3 2014 for sure, especially since Miyamoto said they could of shown it this year.

here are my realistic predictions (i've done really good on these in the past):

wii u:
-account system rolled out immediately after direct. connects to club nintendo account.
-nintendo power network is a subscription service that gets you free games, early access to demos, and nintendo secret directs similar to how gaf gold users can ************* and ********* in the *************** forum, but normal users will only see asterisks.
-bayonetta 1 announced for wii u, and will be a free download to anyone who buys bayonetta 2 from the eshop.
-sonic and mario platformer announced as the third sonic game for wii u
-persona 5 wii u exclusive. more details from atlus on november 24

3ds:
-miiverse support, and integration with the new account system
-super mario galaxy 3d announced for 3ds
-majora's mask 3d announced for 3ds
-persona 4 the platinum announced for 3ds: includes everything from golden and extra stuff

eshop:
-bill trinen talks about mother 3 coming to the eshop... right now. as he talks, the camera slowly zooms in on his face until all you can see are his eyes
