Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

90% really? You guys do remember it took Nintendo 1+ year to decide to localize that game? I mean, I want it as much as the next guy, but I hardly think it's 90% sure. Maybe 50/50.

I thought this was NeoGAF...where people come to BELIEVE! WHATS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS!? /exageration....?

IM EXPECTING A NEW TRAILER! Heaths prediction coming true, and the 300th page thing got me hyped up with hope! All aboard the HYPE/Dissapoint TRAIN!

Lucas, Marth, and Roy gave no fucks about their games being localized when they decided to Smash it up.

That's a fair point. But FE is huge in Japan. Xenoblade is a great game, but it's not a series (yet) and it's not a flagship Nintendo title (yet).

True, but I don't think status is the deciding factor for Smash characters. For the most part, Sakurai seems to do whatever he wants.

Sakurai hasn't gone crazy adding new franchises to Smash Bros. in the past, so I don't see why Xenoblade would be given preferential treatment over any of the dozens of other one-off Nintendo games without characters.

Sakurai could have added a bunch of new characters from new franchises to Melee, but he only chose Fire Emblem. People were begging for (and expecting) all sorts of new IP characters for Brawl, but only Wario and Pikmin were introduced. Those are all major series with multiple installments, merchandising, crossovers, and the works. There seems to be a high threshold for featuring new playable series in Smash Bros. It's not that Xenoblade isn't a good game -- it just isn't an enduring one. Maybe Xenoblade will grow into something of lasting value for Nintendo and we'll get Shulk in the next Smash Bros., but it's still too early for that. It's nowhere near the level of Animal Crossing or Wii Fit.

Really, I wouldn't be surprised if Animal Crossing and Wii Fit are the only new series introduced to SSB4 (excluding whatever retro and guest characters we might get). Sakurai lamented during the Brawl days that Animal Crossing, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Brain Age, and Nintendogs are the only significant series excluded from Smash Bros., and nothing's really changed on that front in the last five years.

You are forgetting Kid Icarus and Gyromite.

I would like to make a bet with you that we will get more new series than Animal Crossing and Wii Fit.

They're explicitly "retro" (like Ice Climber and Game & Watch), each representing a different aspect of Nintendo's early history. I was talking about the contemporary additions, which Xenoblade would obviously be considered.

That's because getting yourself hyped would only affect you negatively in long term... or short term.

I don't expect a new trailer anytime soon.

So is it more reasonable to expect more retro IP's then? Even if some of them may have less recognition than newer properties like Xenoblade?

I think Sakurai (and his team) just does what he/they want. Forming some kinda logic when we've no clue about what their current character selection process is just going to narrow the scope. It's better to dream big and have fun (at the expense of being "disappointed" later), than being too serious.

thank you.
i doubt they allow such a huge spoiler gif in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the show in question.

Well, I would ask moderator and see what he said. The GIF was very vague and I'm pretty sure that some people don't understand the content of the GIF.

I think Shulk getting in SSB4 depends on whether X is an Xenoblade-related title or not. At the moment I'm leaning towards it being some sort of X2/Xeno-online deal (I mean why else allude to a blonde dude at the end of the reveal trailer if it's an entirely new franchise whose characters we don't know?), so I'm leaning towards Shulk getting in.

Fox got into the original Smash when his franchise wasn't even five years old yet and his second game had come out the year earlier for instance.

Star Fox 64 was a huge success by the time SSB was in development, and two games is still more than one. Star Fox also had a pretty big "who's who of Nintendo" pedigree behind it with EAD, Miyamoto, and Eguchi. It easily deserved a character in the first SSB.

There HAS to be a Xenoblade representative. Sakurai and Nintendo are clearly aware of the critical acclaim the game received and they are making a big deal out of the next Monolith Soft game. I'm ready to avatar bet that there will be a Xenoblade character.

A little bit OT, but when is this Direct?

My point was more if X winds up being Xenoblade 2 or Xenoblade Online or what have you, it has enough games to earn a rep if Fox/Ness/Falcon being in the first game are anything to go off. I'm assuming it'll come out before SSB4 does anyhow, but while I don't expect Smash to pull anything from X, if it's xeno-related and Shulk is heavily featured, him being in Smash is a whole lot less awkward.

EDIT: dah fuck is up with these two toon links

Sakurai's done no such thing. The most acknowledgement I've seen of Xenoblade of late is a puzzle panel on Streetpass Plaza.

He took a photo of a nice looking Monado blade replica. I mean, it's not a hint to anything obviously but yeah it shows he's at least aware of the game's existence.

It could be fun to make a avatar bet but I doubt you guys would find much to annoy me since im new here.

Still have high hopes for tomorrow.

At the very least, I think it is safe to say that Sakurai is a fan.
