Why not? is a perfect opportunity to show Zelda Wii U. Is not like less people is going to buy WW because in 2015 there will be another Zelda on Wii U.
I feel like a next-gen Zelda reveal belongs in something a little bigger than a Nintendo direct, but this is Nintendo we're talking about so I suppose anything's possible.

So, if it's games this year, Nintendo does have a chunky lineup...though Europe will have the better presentation, I'm sure.

That's pretty much the reason they gave at E3 though. They'll want WW to have time to breathe (as well as the rest of the lineup, so new games will at soonest be at the December Direct).

If they're worried, I expect them to pull out all stops. Even if it's just super awesome trailers for Mario & Donkey Kong.
The question is, if you have an ace like Zelda you can show off, do you do it now, right before the competition launches in the hope you swing a few people or do you hold off until afterwards, knowing you're going to get lost among two new consoles a bit anyway.

It looks like one but it's not apparently, it's like fake 3D and plays just like NSMB or some such shit
I haven't jumped through time to play through the entire game yet like many Gaffers have but I totally understand not having faith in EAD Tokyo, I mean when was the last time they put out one classic video game much less two in the same generation for the first time ever in a series
- but seriously though, go into this with low expectations and you shouldn't be disappointed
this'll just be an infodump regarding their other 2013 releases that they haven't given enough or any attention to advertising, and maybe a new small downloadable title or two

If anything, they will likely wait to tease that in a Direct in January, and unless things are SO dire after this holiday that they feel that's when they need to show it, they might as well wait until E3.

Look we can stay around smelling each other all day, but I've got things to do.
There's no way to tell, but since the Direct is meant to show this year's games, then chances are that Smash isn't going to get any significant news. At most, a returning veteran.
But... You never know (Get hype!).

-A dream crossover with a certain other blue hero that didn't prefer to make one series badass over another.
-At least 2 kickstarters. One insuring that the spirit of the series lives on through it's foster parents, while the other bringing him to a game form people would never expect.
-A starring roll in what is possibly the most anticipated Nintendo game that we know of. (So no, don't say "I'm anticipated for Legend of Super New IP Emblem Other X and Y. hurrdurr, because we don't know if that exists yet.)

So yeah, fans of neglected franchises should at the very least count their blessings that people care about the world's they pore over instead of just play flash clones of the core gameplay while waiting for a client to call back.

I Miyamoto said Zelda could've been shown, I wonder if he meant like the first showing of Skyward Sword, which was just a quick CG of Link jumping off.
So I don't know that a showing would be all that much. However, that showing of SS did show the artstyle choice and Link design, so that would be at least be something.

They showed actual gameplay when they first revealed Skyward Sword, it wasn't just CG. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dYgrMz_XBI The trailer they showed during the conference was only 40 seconds long, but it showed the slingshot, bomb rolling, and the beetle and was followed by the infamous gameplay demonstration.
And I said this earlier in the thread, but Zelda U isn't being revealed until 2014, probably at E3.

to be fair I think I read on here someone at Nintendo said they could have shown Zelda U at the last E3 so at least they do have something they could show.
a lot of people loved the first X trailer. We need some new epic Zelda hype to start the holiday off.
hopefully some nice things are shown
a zelda tease seems like one of the most possible "one more thing" announcements for this direct. wind waker HD just released, they've got a console bundle that recently hit retail stores, and there's another title hitting shelves for 3DS in just a few months. it's the best time to stir up Zelda talk. they could be really cryptic for all it matters but refusing to talk about it seems like a waste.

I'm not expecting any surprises tomorrow in the form of new games. I think there will be a surprise (for better or worse) about 3D World's gameplay.
Well, I'm half right. You can use the Game Pad to display Wii games but still need a Wiimote to control them.
