There are so many "safe" districts that Congress doesn't care what constituents from the opposite party think.

Boehner wants to remain Speaker of the House. He is acting in his own rational self-interest to accomplish this goal.

The whole country is being screwed but one of the problems with the American political system at the Congressional level is that the politicians often find that acting in their self-interest opposes the interests of the nation they supposedly serve. So here we are.

I did. But then again you have no idea who I am or what position I hold. You think of only simple matters like moneying running the entirety of issues in politics. Simply not the case, and maybe you should get out and organize things yourself. Maybe start your own interest group, which informs politicans of different issues and actually testify before congress.

Then again, wild assumptions on how much influence money has on politics and the defeatist attitude like yours is much the reason why people who aren't as educated on politics get so disenfranchise because you literally spew out misinformation.

He is going to have to have to cave in the end. All he had to do was put it to a vote. He is not going to keep his position forever. I don't understand how this unpopular travesty is going to get him ahead.

They should go on hunger strikes outside of the shuttered offices and garner some media attention. Nothing like starving single mothers and kids to sway public opinion.

This is correct. People issued cell phones for work have to hand them in as well, or at least that was the word last time.

Only a couple more weeks until the debt ceiling and we do this dance of death again with these terrorists... er... republicans... no, terrorists will do.

Term limits wouldn't have done shit to prevent this. If anything they would just make Congress more corrupt. Get in, bow to your lobbyist overlords and get out. If you want to fix congress you need to look to campaign finance reform. Money is the root of all evil, especially in politics. Make it so people can't buy seats in Congress and you'll go a long way towards fixing it.
