US Federal Government Shutdown | Shutdown Shutdown, Debt Ceiling Raised

They are similar in that 1) creditors can pull the rug from under you and demand higher interest when you roll over your debt, 2) money you spend to service the interest is essentially wasted (or goes to the top 1% in this case), and when you are stuck printing more and more money, everybody will rather take someone else's money.

In what universe? This is like saying " what if the zombie apocalypse happened?"

Fun, but not realistic.

Sanky Panky arguing techniques:
when you're proven wrong, keep repeating the same thing over and over again and throw out more conspiracy theories!
hmmm....seems familiar

U.S. Military
Merge Department of Education with the newly created Department of Jesus
Rename the DOJ, Department of Justice for White Folk
The rest of it can burn in a fire.
Soooooo. Nazi Germany.

You forgot the EPA changed to Department of Oil Federalizations(DOOF)

All of the sarcastic responses to my post is proof of the hostility and that the US is slowly falling apart and it's citizens are going against each other. You guys don't even realize it themselves. Meanwhile Boehner and Obama are playing poker and smoking cigars right now while people were financially damaged by the shutdown and angered.

They make it way too easy, Obama and Boehner are geniuses.

Aren't you getting bored of your charade?

When money became arbitrary. After the gold standard became finally obsolete.

Except fiat currency has existed since 10th century China. Since that time, no country has successfully gotten away with printing paper money freely.

It didn't work then, and it won't work in this young 40 year experiment. History may not exactly repeat itself, but it sure rhymes.

It was brought to my attention that this is basically PoliGAF 2: Talk about Anything Political. Feel free to discuss low-level issues (ie fallout, Republican reactions, the run-up to Jan/Feb) there or create a new thread if there's a specific theme or story to explore in depth. And while it's too late now, it probably would have made more sense for someone to have created a new thread when the news that the shutdown was over occurred.
