Infernape was my favorite and the best design for a Fire starter (him and Emboar... yeah!).
And like someone said, Infernape was mostly based on the Stone-monkey/Monkey king Sun Wu Kong of the chinese tale of ''Journey to the West'', which was almost half-god half-warrior.
I think for references, this got to be the best background yet. No contest... XD
But it does looks good though

Greninja is Strider Hiryu which makes him the best final evo.
Hilbert and Hilda were closer to 16-17, these trainers seem pretty malleable agewise.

Man I played B/W loads of times with all three starters and good god does Serperior run into so many roadblocks that Emboar and Samurott never do.
This reminds me of how adorable Ralts is.
