Where is your reply calling them out later
"Compromise"
What concessions are Republicans making and what are Democrats getting in response? Your original post makes no sense.
Well, they went from defunding obamacare to delaying individual mandate. PROGRESS!Precisely, name one compromise that republicans have made during this shutdown.
Precisely, name one compromise that republicans have made during this shutdown crisis.
Do you really think that was an appropriate response?
"Why should we help a kid with cancer... there are some people out of work"
Absolutely indefensible if you ask me.
For those wondering how badly Bulbo took the Reid quote out of context.Bash: You all talked about children with cancer unable to go to clinical trials. The House is presumably going to pass a bill that funds the NIH. Will you, at least, pass that? And if not, aren't you playing the same political games that republicans are?
REID: Listen, Senator Durbin explained that very well. And he's, did it here, did it on the floor earlier, as did Senator Schumer, and it's this: What right do they have to pick and choose what part of government's going to be funded? It's obvious what's going home here. You talk about reckless and irresponsible. Wow. What this is all about is Obamacare. They are obsessed. I don't know what other word I can use. I don't what other word I can use. They are obsessed with this Obamacare thing.
As has been pointed out on the floor in the past few days, they did the same thing on Social Security, they did the same thing on Medicare, now they're doing it on this. It's working now and it'll continue to work and people will love it even more than they do now by far. So they have no right to pick and choose.
BASH: But if you can help one child, why won't you do it?
REID: I, listen...
SCHUMER: Why pit one against the other?
REID: Why, why, why would we want to do that? I have, I have 1100 people at Nellis Air Force Base that are sitting home. They have, they have a few problems of their own. This is, to have someone of your intelligence suggest such a thing maybe means you're as irresponsible and reckless

That's the nicest way to put how you discuss political issues, yes.Are you calling me a useful idiot? I should resent those remarks.
@JuddLegum said:Can I burn down your house?
No
Just the 2nd floor?
No
Garage?
No
Let's talk about what I can burn down.
No
YOU AREN'T COMPROMISING!
Remember when everyone on the left was tweeting #compromise back a couple years ago? Wonder why compromise was such a great thing then and such a horrible thing now, in basically the same situation. Oh, right, marching orders.
Ive got your compromise right here buddy

So reading this thread makes me realize. Republicans can just block the government the next few years until a new senate is elected and can pick and choose whatever they think should be taken care of and they get applauded for it?
Bulbo only post in OT political threads because he knows he can still troll anyone who doesn't frequent poligaf. Not that people in poligaf can't be trolled, just that they are aware of his shtick more so than others.

The tea party got elected on the following lines:
Government sucks
Government is useless
Abolish the EPA, Dep Education, Census etc etc etc
Debt is out of control
Stop spending money
Government employees should find a "real" job
Shutting down the government is them hitting the jackpot.
Every department they hate - shut down
Every department they love, like military and airports - business as usual
They get to go home and say theyre saving $1bn a day
If it was up to them, yes, theyd shut the government down for 2 years....and gloat about them. To them, theyre being heroes.
Ok, what's the proposed compromise?
The Republicans get say, a half-year delay on Obamacare (compromise!).
The Democrats get... ?
So the best thing republicans can do is to keep the shutdown active and be happy about the next elections when they will have a landslide win. Also they might be able to kill obamacare if this situation is being held up for half a year or so..
Theres one problem with their plan:
Its based off the idea that government is useless and doesnt contribute to the economy.
But theres that little problem, when you send 800,000 people home, and the rest are working without pay.... retail sales plummet.
How do you think Joe Sandwich Shop feels this week in DC?
Of course, GOP doesnt care about DC....but there are fed workers everywhere, and they all eat lunch and they all go shopping...
Now imagine towns around the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone etc. 90% of their economy is tourism.
Theyre not happy.
Now imagine you're Verizon, and you cant get access to new phones because the FCC is shut down, so your big November launch is ruined.
Theyre not happy.
Stick Grampa Motel owner on TV, and Verizon CEO on TV, and how the GOP is shitting their pants because it turns out government DOES affect peoples lives.

That's exactly right. The Republicans are willing to have a federal government if the Democrats are willing to repeal laws helping Americans obtain health insurance.
Deciding to fund the day to day activities of our government and the enforcement of US Law is not fucking compromise. It's fucking basic functionality.
There is nothing to discuss. The people have spoken. ACA is off the table.
No, that's the 60-some percent of "essential" federal employees still at work.
That's funny, last time I checked we had a bicameral legislature that has power of the purse as part of the system of checks and balances, and the Republicans won one chamber in both 2010 and 2012. The people have spoken, and they spoke for gridlock and divided government, and that's what is happening.
The Republicans won the house despite having something like 1.7million less votes. That doesn't seem like accurate representation
Sadly, this is quite literally, what the GOP is offering. They will agree to fund the government,in exchange for democrats giving up on their biggest policy win in 20 years.
No other concession is being offered.
Then they should get to work governing. Crafting and passing bills. That's funny, last time I checked we had a bicameral legislature that has power of the purse as part of the system of checks and balances, and the Republicans won one chamber in both 2010 and 2012. Oooo that's interesting, given where I went to go link a full context from. Apparently even that wasn't the full story!

Oh, yes, I'm sure they voted the Republicans to take control of the US House so these elected officials would take the debt ceiling hostage and risk shattering it, bringing economic ruin to many in this country and possibly the world.
You're right. That's exactly what they wanted. It IS funny.

Hey. I'm pretty sure I posted that before Fox did. Maybe they get their talking points from here. This is why I find Bilbo amusing, he gets me caught up on all the Fox News talking points.

Thanks Bilbo!
Oh wow, you are a creative director alright.
No, that's the 60-some percent of "essential" federal employees still at work.
I've come to associate "in the software development industry" with "completely out of touch with reality when it comes to government or macroeconomics" and so far it hasn't been disproven as a stereotype.
Not getting paid... They're working for free because Republicans are not giving up their hostage.
Ad hominem doesn't have a place here.
Something about this seems wrong...
Edit - I mean to say I think you are wrong. Aren't the ones working getting paid?

Yes, those who aren't getting paid will get back pay once the shutdown is over.
You'd have a point if Open Source's premise was logically valid.
Ok just read they will get back pay. But they're not getting paid till this ends. Which could be weeks.Yes, those who aren't getting paid will get back pay once the shutdown is over.
I thought that wasn't guaranteed, or was that just for the furloughed employees?
Well, I just took issue with the stereotyping really, because I'm in the same kind of work.
