Pokemon X and Y Leaks, Releases Early

Apparently all the previous starters are getting megas (Charizard has two), so that's 16 right there.

Where'd you hear this? A Mega Torterra would be sweet.

I don't really know what effect Mega Evolutions will have though. Will they be viable for competitive battling? Something only for the main story? Totally useless? I would honestly rather have new Pokemon considering you probably can't mega evolve every match if it's based on consumable items.

Also here's a Pokemon cake.

I agree that less legendaries are needed. Gen 1 and 2 had a fair amount, but since then it's gotten way too crazy, Gen 4 specifically opened the floodgates on them and had way too many.
Gen 1 and 2 had too few. Gen V had the perfect amount, but there should not have been 3 trios and the events were pathetic.

If the game can't be hacked and some legendaries or megaevolutions are only distributed in events, it could be months before we know the total number of new Pokemon.

Mega Stones are infinite use. And the development team said they were designing them to rival major legendary pokemon in power.

I don't agree, it would be "fucking awful". I think this has to do with fanbases just rationalizing buying something that could be better, people do that a lot with purchases now. People will most likely not out right say "70 Pokemon and a shitton of Megalutions with no post game is shit GF, FIX IT". They will instead say "3D models are hard work, its a balancing gen etc." this is why I like kick starters to an extent, once I put so much money in the project, you can't fuck me over on content.
Well don't buy it then, since you seem to think that the game is now trash because it doesn't contain 100 new.

And people wouldn't say either, they'd say "New Pokemon? Buying." because most people don't actually look at the final dex number, they play for the Pokemon.

And secondly, no duh everything could be better with more money. But most people don't judge a game on what "could have been" they judge a game by what it is. Play it and find out for yourself, or don't play it at all.
The bolded is soo true.

People, you DO NOT have to make excuses for GF. They're a huge company with huge pockets and the backing/ support of both Nintendo and Creatures (which have been making 3D Pokemon games already). If they decide to make fewer Pokemon then it was their decision, and if people bitch hard enough then maybe our feelings will be heard.

I'm still hopelessly hoping that GF decided to make a fail save incase a reviewer leaked by locking half the pokemon until the official release that would release them via some kinda wifi thingy. (No hope but w/e ...)
I mean, just skip out on this gen if you think that 30 or so Pokemon is actually a reason to demand Masuda's head on a platter before you've even seen the cartridge.

It just seems to me like concentrating on what is (to me) a shame/bullet point negative at most and hailing it as a reason the game isn't worth anything is beyond me.

I thought it was confirmed? Sorry if I'm wrong.

Is anyone planning on downloading their copy off of the eShop? Initially, I had dismissed the notion due to Nintendo's lack of an online account and the potential loss of my 3DS meaning the loss of my game/mons. But, I think the Pokemon bank solves most of my hangups.

Just curious of what everyone was planning on doing.

So this game will be my first pokemon game again in years. The last pokemon game I played was Diamond and I've amassed quite a few pokemon in there that I'd like to transfer to X/Y. My question is, is there a way to transfer my pokemon from Diamond to X/Y and if so, how? Would I need the pokebank app for this?

I'll be doing so! It allows me to get it as soon as possible and I have been saving my $30 credit from Nintendo's FE x SMT4 promotion

Unfortunately you'd have to get another DS with Black and White/Black and White 2 and transfer it over using their app, then from Black and White to X and Y. Diamond is Gen 4, X and Y is Gen 6, and you can only transfer between the gens.

You need any of Pokemon black, white, black 2 and white 2, a second DS (A DS and 3DS together works fine.) Clear the main story (if you're not borrowing) for any of those games and there should be a transfer facility on route 15 that you can bring your Gen IV pokemon from. Pokebank is required but there's 30 day free trials available until the end of January.

There is unfortunately no way to transfer directly from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HG/SS to XY.

Ok, so I'd have to transfer from Diamond to black/white and then to X/Y. My sis has a 3DS also, could I make it work with that or does it have to be a DSi/Lite? Final question, would black/white (2) be worth playing? Otherwise I'd be getting it just to transfer my pokemans.

Edit: Ah I see those questions got answered already. Thanks guys. Still the question remains, is black/white (2) worth it and which would be the best?

GF did not directly say but did say mega evolution was based on popularity and game balance (hence things like Mawile a buff). Starters tend to be the most popular for a given generation which is why you could infer all of them would get them.

Wasn't there a promotional image floating around a few weeks ago that had a bunch of Gen 1-5 Pokemon including
-every Pokemon known to have a mega evo (including Aerodactyl, who was not known to have a mega until yesterday or so)
-every final starter evo
-every pseudo-legendary except Hydreigon

No, it was unrelated to Megas completely. It had to do with team selection at that Pokemon event in August.

They're so much better than Diamond and Pearl to be honest.

Both G5 games are worth playing, though I'd say play BW first and see if you like it.

Cool, thanks. Saw your post before the edit too about pokebank nog being available till december anyway. Will probably get them since after X/Y I will probably be craving more pokemans.

I'd recommend Black/White because of the great story and characters.

I'd recommend Black 2/White 2 for the post game content and old Pokémon available.

Personally, I think Black/White are miles better than the sequels.

Yes, I will be downloading X as soon as it pops in the eShop on the 12th.

Yeah I'm probably going to finish X and Y then play all the transferrable Pokemon games in release order (Hoenn -> Kanto -> Sinnoh -> Johto -> Unova), then transfer all the Pokemon over :)

In the same thread someone described the starter evos perfectly days before we saw them 70 was also a guess with the dex number the Z legendary got. Hawlucha turned out to be true, Greninja did, water pokemon was real. I'm not expecting this to be wrong.

iirc the thread was made after the PB leaker shown them.

Do you guys think Z is actually gonna happen? I hate buying the initial versions of a gen if something with more content is coming up... I think AA can whet my appetite for a bit, but how long do you think till they announce Z, if at all?

Hmm, what old pokemon would be available in black/white 2 that aren't in the first ones? Any specific ones like starters or just generic ones? I'd mostly be playing to get as much pokemon to X/Y possible.

Oh man, I forgot about HeartGold. Gold still remains as my favourite pokemon game ever. So many things to catch-up to. Might do that one too.

There's no doubt that there will be an alt version, but it'll most likely a year or so later. We only got BW2 in 2012 after all.

Definitely not only generic ones (you can find wild Eevee, Riolu, Metang and Mareep, for example) but I am too lazy to list them, so I will link you the whole B2W2 Pokédex instead.

Chances are pretty likely, yeah. Maybe it won't be called "Z", but there will probably be a sequel/third version. I'd give it two years at most.

In that case, just get Black/White 2. It completely trumps the original. More content, better rivals, more areas to explore, MUCH larger pokemon selection and variety, etc... So if your goal is to get as many pokemon as possible, BW2 is your game.

On the subject of there only being ~70 new Pokemon, this actually doesn't bother me, especially since there's only like 5 designs I like anyway and I have zero faith that they'd create good ones. What bothers me is that if they had to have such a small collection of new critters, they should have weeded out all of the useless space-waster Pokemon.

Vivillion could and should have been a two stage Pokemon in the vein of Venonat/Venomoth. I think we can all agree that Scatterbug and Spewpa are fairly terrible, so getting rid of one would be nice. The difference between Fletchling and Fletchinder is fairly miniscule, so they could have shorted that evolutionary line down as well.

I guess they were going for the 3-stage throwback over the 2-stage - more Pidgey/Pidgeotto/Pidgeot rather than Taillow/Swellow.

There will be hundreds of older Pokeymans from previous series on top of the new ones introduced in XY, right? I played a bit of whichever game has Emboar, and some Blue before that. It's clear that we'll be able to get the 3 OG starters and Mewtwo, but I'm not sure about everything else.

How many of those 70 Pokemon actually look like they will be competitive? Ain't no one putting that Furfrou on their team.

I don't really care about the viability of new Pokemon at this point. It'd be nice to have a few standouts, but there are 650 other Pokemon that have been basically shuffled up with the introduction of mega evolutions, the fairy type and likely new moves. Okay, it's more like 250 Pokemon discounting middle evolutions etc., but there is Little Cup!

Oh yeah, the Kalos dex looks like it's going to be absolutely massive. I don't think we're getting the starters from the other regions, though. I'm sure one of the leakers would've reported on that had they come across another gift starter.

I don't see what's there to be down about.

Game looks fantastic. The evos look fantastic.

We have a fucking luchador bird. A luchador bird.. You have no idea how much fun I'm having trying to come up with names for it.

I'm gonna name him Sin Cara and only give him moves that have recoil damage.

I don't care about the number of new pokemon, I just really hope there is some post-game content. I hate that feeling of beating the elite 4 and thinking "well I guess that's it..."

It looks like a very wide range of older pokemon are available early on, judging by the leaks we've had so far. Probably the greatest diversity of pokemon from all gens of any game so far.

complete your pokedex. get a competitive team together. grind your favorites to 100. breed for cool movesets. plenty to do even if there isn't a guided postgame.

I find it weird that despite being a fighting type, we have yet to see a fighting from Chesnaught. Are we sure it's fighting. To me, the blurry screenshot looked like it said ground which would make a little more sense

So no Emboar? :<

Probably no Emboar. You'd have to transfer him from your Gen V game or trade with someone who has a Tepig.
Oh, okay. Can I trade with players who don't own X/Y if I want other older gen starters I haven't seen before?

Nope, you can't trade between Gen V and VI. People with BW1 and 2 will have to use that Poketransfer tool to get their pokemon into X&Y.

I was wondering the same thing. I need to see Close Combat! Hi Jump Kick would be awesome, but would not make much sense. Lol

Instead of making the whole Vivillion line they should've made some of the 7 pre-existing butterflies/moths come in different varieties. And make Masquerain Bug/Water while they're at it.

Masquerain should evolve into a giant water bug.

Those things are HUGE!!! They also have a nasty bite, and the male caries the eggs in a distinctive fashion. Possible gender variation?
