I need to ask a question on how Fate contribution calculation works for lower leveled players. Like, do lower leveled players just have to do way more in a fate than they initially would in order to receive silver/gold than normal?

At this point, I'm wondering if I should just take my level 30 class over to Dark Devices or other Northern Thanalan fates, not get hit by anything ever, and still be able to pull at least a fragment of the exp (which would be miles better than what I'm getting at lower levels).

No it's just a lower amount period. You'll get more farming Costa at 30 than you would at N Thanalan. Not to mention people probably would just kick you.

This makes me wonder if that sand worm fate in South Thanlan can be done in a similar way? Maybe something to try out (if you can get others not not murder the Fate NM)

You need to be at least level 42 or you will be kicked/ignored. You might die in few hits and deal near insignificant damage to contribute enough for FATED.
 
I wonder if the dev team will ever look into buffing food effects.

I really think they should look into extending the duration to an hour instead of 30 minutes as well as making the food effect persist through death.

Might make Culinarian more appealing as well as making the higher end food more attractive for dungeons and what not.

As of right now, with the way food buffs are neglected and the sheer amount of ingredients you have to collect just to make one meal I just don't find Culinarian as a worthy investment past level 37.

Ha, that's suicide, I always have my camera zoomed out, especially because I seem to be the one who isn't afraid to engage FATE bosses first even if no one is around.

I find it easy but that's only because I come from a console RPG background where I always love to level grind like a maniac and have stuff long before I should have it, like having Flare for the Lake Macalania fight in X.

It's more fun if you can get FC/Friends to level with you. Otherwise yes, going at it solo is a snore-fest.

I just found a party then semi-afked while watching Dota 2 matches, blew through levels without even thinking about it.

Yeah, I knew parties would be out of the question. Was just thinking that given how... abuseable Dark Devices is (SE says it's intentional, but I really have my doubts), and how I don't think I have ever gotten less than gold when taking part in the farming even if it was cut significantly short, even a low level class would be able to make some kind of contribution.

On the other hand, I would only be doing minimal damage before one cultist would die due to the one out of 20 AOEs going on. Ugh, I guess I'm stuck with Costa until I can get this last cross class.

When I was at the Quarrymill, I was partied with a group that was determined to take out the level 33 at the Southwest of the shroud. They always did crap damage and mobs often OHKO'd them, but I always wondered if they knew something I didn't about higher level fates.

I'm personally used to grinding in RPGs.

Like the Dragon Quest series.

FATE grinding is not even remotely analogous to grinding in single player RPGs. If you can find me an RPG where you go to town, stare at the map for up to 10 minutes at a time, then beeline toward a circle on the map ad nauseum, then you'll have a case. Grinding in single player RPGs does not have that kind of downtime. Those periods also mean it can't truly be mindless because you always have to be watching that stupid map.
 
I just figured out how to crash the game!

Just accept a teleport right as "FATE Complete" appears on the screen. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error and CTD! Woo!

For me it was the thrill of the chase that got me through most of the fate grinding on my first character along with the occasional boss FATE. Quarrymill and Coerthas were fun for me hunting them down and occasionally coming across a boss and seeing whole parties getting decimated in its wake.

Not sure if I'm going to like them or just stomach them on my other jobs. I want to get my BLM to 50, but I'm not sure how I feel about FATEs after avoiding them for quite some time. A straight up XP party might be fun.

I kind of find it akin to being in an area like the Cleft Dimension in V where there is that ONE spot where Movers appear which grant mad AP. Any other fight between that is just downtime (Unless you feel like braving a party of two Behemoths). I guess...

or you could watch what the tank is attacking first and assist. the mob will aggro with a different color than the others who'll join in. that's usually the main target after the opener. just as an extra note. i assume it's a matter of hotbar space. some classes will have their bars filled up in no time.

and like torquill said, there is no reason why dd classes couldn't mark targets. i've seen it done before.

agreed. i haven't used storm's path in a good while regularly. i'll have to move it further back until they tweak it. the healing effect is just too weak.

If I'm getting a meld from someone I'll usually tip like 2-3k.

If I'm doing one for someone I just tell them I'll do it for whatever they want to pay. Typically results in anywhere from a 1-5k tip.

As some of you have already mentioned, the reason why we have elected to display the names of your opponents as "Fresh Meat" is to prevent harassment from occurring. We feel this is an important aspect to address to create a fun and comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy PvP.

I can't stand FATE grinding for too much, I can't just stay idle for the minutes until a FATE pops. I'd rather do dungeons.

I mean, it wasn't so bad when there was sidequests and hunting log to do in the middle. Like you're in the open field see a FATE and you go there, complete it and keep doing other stuff. But just stand in crystals waiting for FATES? god no!

There's something called duty finder. You select which content you wanna do and the game will ramdomly put you on a instace with other ppl.

It's why I actually try to find areas conducive to killing mobs while waiting for FATEs to pop. I know there are some "optimal" areas, but there are others that are near as good that generally are not camped at all.

I've played plenty of DQ and FF in my day. Sometimes I can wander around the map for 2 minutes and not get any encounters, and then depending on whether I'm fighting over my level each encounter might last quite a while. If everyone is overgeared and is outnumbering the mobs, then there's no challenge and everything just falls over. If you're in a less popular FATE area and there are only a few random people stopping by to help you out, those encounters can be really hard and frequently fatal if you don't get bailed out.

If you're with a party that likes doing other things, like brushing up on Hunting Logs, attacking some farmable mobs, etc, then yeah, it'll be quick.

But unfortunately, a lot of the experience is sitting in front of a sanctuary starting at the mini-map until you see that blue circle everyone is going to valiantly rush to (but there's always one group that inexplicably makes it there before you).

because FATE grinding barely requires a brain, just a tab button and a couple numbers. I'd never watch BB during that tho, too serious. I stick with comedy shows and stand up and pretty much never pay attention to the fates.

Still requires you to take your eyes off the show and not give 100% attention to it.

I guess my brain isn't as advanced.
