Until they add that gearscore check for things like Titan HM, I will agree with that. I personally feel like 3 healers is way overkill for Titan HM in most cases (with a good group, of course). For people who don't know what they are doing, no amount of healers will save them. xD

In my FC we still do 3 healers most of the times, the reason is because we are already going for our fifth relic as a FC and most of us are on jobs either under-geared or pretty much not knowing how to play the jobs properly, so we play it safe, and try not to suck too much during the heart phase lol

We did have one run, still with 3 healers, and 7 of us with relics +1 with the exception of 1 BRD I believe which we were doing the run for his relic, since he had to do WHM in the previous run, we smashed that Titan and certainly the 3 healers felt over-kill in that situation.

Well after 6+ hours of failing the fight with a variety of groups it's providing an experience that is intensely frustrating. If that is by design then I stand by the statement that it's a poorly designed encounter if the purpose of the game is to keep people playing/paying subscriptions.

No, I can blame the lag every time my character gets pushed like a ball in a flipper by Titan's landslide and I'm on the other side of the arena!

Already have it installed and I even use Pingzapper, but sometimes I can't be helped.

So basically it's my fault when i get it by attacks despite the fact I'm clearly way out of it?

I can't believe there is someone willing to excuse this shit.

Nope. All I'm saying is if someone from all the way in England has no problems 99% of the time then there isn't much of an excuse, unless your connection is really awful, at that point I would look into latency programs or better ISPs, etc.

Good for you. Latency still a problem widely know and documented among the community.

Clearly this dude (and the many people lamenting lag problems) should move to England. Or SE could fix their shitty servers.

so i've finally reached the garuda part of the relic quest, doubt i'll be able to do them in pugs
thinking of doing both garuda and hm this saturday or something, anybody can help?

i've also posted this on our guildwork site
thanks in advance!

Well after 6+ hours of failing the fight with a variety of groups it's providing an experience that is intensely frustrating. If that is by design then I stand by the statement that it's a poorly designed encounter if the purpose of the game is to keep people playing/paying subscriptions.

Which fight?

Counterpoint: I've done Titan HM dozens upon dozens of times and been hit by landslide/plumes a bare handful.

Yes, lag is real, yes the servers lag, yes some players have shitty connections.

The fight is dependant on prediction as much as it is lag. His pattern is fixed. If you're already moving at the appropriate time, you can dodge his stuff, even if you're slightly lagged. If you are lagged and you're waiting to reactively dodge, odds are you'll get hit.

I'm sympathetic to the fact that the fight requires 7 people to dodge near perfectly for 6-10+ minutes, and it blows if you have a bad connection to the server, but for a lot of people I've seen in the fight, it's not lag, they're simply unwilling to accept that they're not moving the right way, or moving in time, or healing in time.

People are very fast to lay blame on a scapegoat, not so fast to accept responsibility for fucking something up.

I'd honestly recommend anyone with a truly awful connection to simply buy a clear if they don't have an FC that can pull them through it. It takes a few CM runs to sell Philosophy crafting items to make the cash to pay for a run, far, far less time and frustration than it will cause you to struggle with DF (nearly impossible), PUGs (possible, once you find the right people), or your FC (entirely dependant on your guild mates skills/connections).

So if I'm understanding this correctly... you can level up every single job/class on just 1 character? If so, then what's the point of making alts besides changing your look?

Also, the music so far is fantastic... does it stay like this throughout the game?

Actually, you have a pretty good chance at beating Garuda HM via DF, much much much better than Titan HM.

Correct. There's really no difference aside from wanting to go through the quest line again.

So, with all the talk about latency issues and primal HM fights, what options do PS3 players have?

Not sure what PS3 would have to do with latency. Plenty of people have done it on PS3s.

Yes, you can level up each class on one character, but doing so is very dull, especially if you did every quest you could find on your first class. You would have to resort to FATE grinding up to 50...not that fun, pretty fast though if you can tough it out.

Making a new character allows for a much faster leveling experience, and at least 250k gil.

Plenty of people have done it on PCs as well. That doesn't change how people across both platforms have been complaining about lag in these hard mode fights even with decent or good connections.

Interesting... thanks.

Also, is there any way to stop the gold seller spam? I can't even read the chats they scroll so fast...

Yes. The OST is outstanding and it only gets better.

Finished doing AK today and cleaned house. ALL tanking loot! Hopefully I can start up HM Ifrit soon. Would love to try this out with the rest of GAF. Assuming I'm geared enough, that is.

What's your gear like and gear of the other people? Where are you failing?

HM Primal weapons, mixture of DL and AF+1.

I'm failing because over the course of the fight someone in the group will die; either from falling due to rock slide or plumes. I've even had idiot tanks die from standing too far away and falling after geocrush.

I understand that other people haven't, for whatever reason, had as much problems with the fight. Regardless of individual experience with the encounter the fact that the duty finder is useless and that so much of the fight is one hit kill moves where bad luck or a single mistake by one player causes a wipe is, in my opinion and experience, evidence of a poorly designed encounter. If said design is to be expected in future encounters I, for one, will not be subscribing to the game.

Should be slower shouldn't it? Since FATE grinding is already the fastest way to level up and then you get that bonus exp rates for leveling a 2nd class.

It's hard practicing on Titan HM with a PUG as a tank since you only have to worry on the last phase where you have to time your CD for mountain busters. Most of them don't even make it past the heart phase. I have been able to avoid getting damage by bombs by moving close to the edge of the cliff between them, but I have been told by the people in the group that it's too risky and I should just eat the damage?

Whoops, it was just a rounding edge case for the party stat bonus. Threw on a nominal +4 upgrade, got a +5 because I was riiiiiiiight on the line.
(Thread's gonna kill me now...)

Sort-of cross-post from guildsite:
Now that I've cleared the story (and have the AF gear but weapon and accessories are all lvl 48/49 white stuff), and I really have no idea what to do next/where to start. (I know Grave posted a cynical "overview" earlier). I have Ifrit HM, Wanderers Palace, and the Relic weapon quest unlocked - should I do these? Or do CM/Prae repeatedly for tomes first? Or fill out the GC hunting log and go over the dungeons I skipped (Qarn, Cutters, Aurum)? Or avoid it altogether and level up another combat class or try gathering/crafting?

Also, not sure if spoilers (and this is mainly aimed at people who've reached endgame as summoner):
Do the egi battle mechanics (Ifrit= multiple spikes), (Titan I can't remember), (Garuda= multiple garudas) reflect the HM mode mechanics?

Hoooly crap!

After 7 straight hours, Titan is down.

Thanks SO much to everyone who helped. I swear I will pay you back one day, and I will definitely pay it forward and help everyone who needs a WAR for Titan clearance. As Safflower said...two healers and WAR tank...what WAR problems? ;)

That last try was absolutely breathtaking. Sumie said it was his last shot and I knew that was gonna be the one...and we didn't have a single error or anything. Absolutely perfect run and my heart was beating so hard at the end.

You guys are so awesome. I love this game haha.

On Monday I will grab my AF2 body and be ready for Coil. :)

And Titan drops like a chump yet again.

Congrats to Rock and everyone else who needed it. LOL at the 90K right after the fight ended. XD

<3

Grats Rock; at least one person who I toiled with today got a win. Maybe I'll get lucky one day.

I'll be on again tomorrow, no plans other than running AK and DD with a few friends, so let me know if you need a tank.

man Quarrymill is shitty for fate, or good since things "die quick", and I thought dragonhead is shit, might need to find an alternative.

Get a THR in your party, by spamming Blizzard 2, I was raking in tons of gold medals. Boss FATE's are pretty easy as well with one.

Now leveling up Arcanist is a huge drag...ugh

I saw the credits yesterday, what a phenomenal game and ending!

I need to write a full review but I can already say this is one of my favourite games of this ending generation.

So did two dungeons today as part of the story, got to level 20...man...the game is a lot more hectic than from what I remember from FFXI, half the time, I don't know what I'm suppose to be doing battle wise.

But I am having great fun...can't wait to finally get my monk.

I always have terrible, death inducing lag. Ps3 via WiFi. Sigh.

Scholar or Summoner?
Just hit level 20 and about to travel as an envoy first time and trying to decide which city to go to.

I like the idea of a Conjuror better but I'm wondering of ultimately Summoner is just more fun

I just did a Garuda df try with a friend, Just another fun time on the duty finder.

I needed 1 myth tome to cap for this week. I tried doing Ifrit since i still need codex for my scholar. My god, you can't find such failure anywhere but there.

I'm from England and it's fine for me 99% of the time.

I dunno. Lag can only be an excuse so many times before people have to accept that they need to do better.

I got a random invite to carry someone paying 800k for a Titan win. Easiest 100k I've ever made.

I feel that most of the times ppl complains about "Hey, Iwas totally out! fuck lag" is because they got stuck by some animation, seems like some off gcd abilities anmations will make your character stuck into the position is played. It happened with Titan, I was evading all Landslides like nothing and got hit by one after I used Life Surge while running.

Regarding the lag. For ps3 users I lagged like crazy until I decided to go with direct connection, it's like I'm playing a whole new game, I got full effects on and no lag instead of 30 second pauses with eeverything turned off.

I hate this

and it's not like i can even tell where they're pointing because its a fucking orb

Well if you look in the first picture, on the red circle around the node there's a red arrow, pointing to what I can see is the best PLD tank ever, showing where the node is facing forward.

I think that's moreso about the second image, where the goddamn AoE blob on the ground obscures said circle. I hate that so much.
