Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Guys, quick question: Crash, Spyro or Ridge Racer Type-4?

I've only played Crash 2 and one Spyro game I don't remember but was cool. Didn't play any RR.

It's a shame Ridge Racer 2 (PSP) isn't on PSN. :/ If I remember correctly it has a lot of content (OST+racetracks) from the older games plus more. Really great racing game as well especially once it stopped babysitting you.

I guess am just a sucker for sales

Now I just need more free time to spend with my Vita

Been dabbling in Valhalla Knighs since it is free. Really not that bad so far. Fun once you get a party going.

I keep coming back to Unit 13 to play a mission or two (actually played my first co-op game last night which was fun/funny), and it just makes me realise how Splinter Cell Blacklist could have totally worked on the Vita. Sigh, one can dream.

The question is would you be far more harsher on it if you had paid for it?

Meh, maybe, hard to say. It is only a PSP game, so maybe my expectations were dumbed down a bit. Or maybe I just like it because so far there has been very little dialogue but plenty of actual action gameplay.

So to change the subject a little...

Can anyone give me the quick scoop on Zone of Enders for Vita? I know there has been a lot of controversy / drama / back and forth, but is it still planned in any way anymore?

So, started Persona 4 Golden, liking it so far, actually kept me from falling asleep on the way to University today (actually the first day I've stayed awake the whole journey)

Yeah, RR2 (PSP) is basically just the first with a ton more content. I would have been mad if I bought the first rather than the second, but on its own, it's an excellent game.

I also, however, feel like I'm the only one who actually likes RR Vita (with all of the additional DLC, of course).

Imo valhalla knights 1&2 had good potential to be good games, but to me they were ruined by a single but very annoying thing, the exploration is like monster hunter(at least the ones on the psp, i dunno if the new are different), what does it mean? Simple, you accept one mission and you have to go from the city to the point of the mission and back, while at the beginning it's not annoying because the missions are near, the more you advance the farer the missions are and the more the encounters.

Another thing that i don't like, but i'm the only one, is that you better change your class periodically to get more experience.

For the rest they are not bad games imo, the graphics are not good but imo not even that bad, i like that the graphics style is not anime but "japanese realistic fantasy" similar to souls games and dragon's dogma(for some reason it looks different from the "western realistic fantasy" of skyrim, witcher etc)
Combats are confusing but fun, there are lots of equipments(visible on the models) and other good things.

But as i said everything is ruined by the travels that make everything extremely annoying and repetitive.

IIRC vk2 battle stance resolved the traveling problems, and infact it's the best version, vk3 has all the potential to be at least an enjoyable game.

EDIT:
I searched and yes vk2 battle stance has teleports that allow you to go to every area, this alone makes the game millions times more enjoyable than the previous ones.

Decided to scale down my Vita 2000 Import craziness.

3x PS Vita 2000 (White, light blue, khaki)@18995 each: 56 985
1x Black Hard case: 1050
3x Soft cases (White, light blue, khaki)@1282 each: 3846
1x 64GB memory card: 85 550
2x Screen film @645 each: 1935

Should get to my door with 2-4 day air shipping for $800ish.

Anyone really dig the Lime Green one? I figure we will at least get the Black/Black model here in the US.

"As your lawyer, I can only advise you..."

Hey bros was i the only one to ignore that it's possible to buy a single month of ps+ for 6.99€?

I discovered it today too while navigating the Vita store. Maybe it's a new adition. Still, I don't think it's worth paying 7 euros for one month.

RR Type 4 was one of the ps1's best racers. Game still holds up on the Vita. Sweet soundtrack too.

I'll probably buy it. It's 5 bucks, what I have in my store and I want a good racer for cheap. It suits perfectly. Controls are not clunky, right?

Ridge Racer with all the extra cars and tracks is for 25€ in the Store. Not that bad, I suppose, but I don't have the money. And I don't know if I want to buy NFS:MW because I have it for free in PS3 with my plus suscription.

So I took my Level 32 Amazon and finally beat the main story for Dragon's Crown. I know everyone is talking about going to the LoC and leveling up blah blah, but am I the only one who kinda feels like you've seen everything there is to see about the game? I mean, I'm tempted to start a new game with either Elf or Wizard, but I'm debating on trading the game in and getting Killzone Mercenary. Help?

Got Everybody's Golf for slightly more than the digital version and I'm in love but this isn't scratching that Mario Sports RPG itch and neither will Mario Golf next year :/

REALLY fun game, though it's so ugly with the sub-native resolution. We need to have some of us play the game online again. We've had a lot of fun in the past playing online with like 8 VitaGAFers.

Considering the price that option might as well not exist ;)

Infact i don't think that the single month of ps+ is aimed to us ps+ masterrace, imo it's aimed to the undecided, it's a cheaper and safer way to try ps+.

Everyone plays pretty differently, but yes, you've seen most of the content the game has to offer -- so if you don't feel like you want to keep playing to max out your skills or get better loot or try new characters, then yes, you should probably sell/trade and get Killzone.

--

Other than the fact that the developers misspelled Artefacts (sic), I'm liking Kung Fu Rabbit for $2.50.
Especially now that I got the "Carrot Juice" Artefact (sic). It makes it go faster so it's a little more twitch like at times. Seems pretty solid so far.

Dead or Alive 5 plus is a great time waster when I'm waiting for class. Hard as balls too, the CPU is so unforgiving to new players. I went 1-17 against the CPU. XD

Yeah, "carrot juice" was used by me pretty much the entire game after I got it. It gets pretty darn hard. I liked the game a lot.

I remember reading it was announced along with the PS3/X360 versions. Then the sales numbers were announced for the console version and that was that. The same reason we won't see a ZOE 3 anytime soon.

Man, I download LEGO: Lord of the Rings for Vita and it's definitely not a good game, at least what i've played:

- Controls are not as responsive as they should (and i don't usually recognise in-put lag).
- The game is clearly designed for a fixed camera, so the second analog stick does almost nothing.
- That DS graphic / design is awful. And the game seems like a bad try to be a cinematic experience.
- Those cutscenes look soooo blurry.
- Why a LEGO game didn't have cel-shadding?

I may continue playing a little more... i guess. I need to play something until P4G arrives, but i don't know if that game is decent enough for me.

It's been quite a while since I have been on here guys! I traded in my copy of Killer Is Dead, so I have a good amount of money to spend on Amazon. I was wondering if I should either get Dragon's Crown (I like side scrollers like it and it looks like it would be fun to play) or Tearaway (I have a love for platformers, but it looks like it would be a little too easy)

Edit: Oh yeah, the new Killzone looks sweet as well

you could have just said this and be done with it.

I can't believe I fell for the DC hype.

The art is gorgeous no doubt, but not even the art style could save that game.

Yup, it was a clear case of art only don't make fun games.

Seems like an overly harsh critique. I have to respectfully disagree entirely.

I do appreciate you going into detail about your opinion on the game. I know you are known for being scathing and critical but man I really hope there continue to be games that you can enjoy without feeling the need to rip them apart.

There are many new games I enjoy and love and I do post about them regularly.

Really, People need to stop buying handheld Lego games till they improve/fix them.

just go an buy Gurumin a Monstrous Adventure already.

The real question is why Warner's still leading on DS for these handheld LEGO games. That platform's nearly 10 years old ffs.

Anyways, here's an interview about some games no one bought: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4e2z8KrIJ4

Western publishers don't really care about handheld games (3DS/Vita) and treat them as 3rd class citizens, they just want to throw cheap ports, they know kids will eat this garbage without saying anything.

Guys, quick question: Crash, Spyro or Ridge Racer Type-4?

I've only played Crash 2 and one Spyro game I don't remember but was cool. Didn't play any RR.

Are you able to play the Crash and Spyro games on the Vita? Last time I checked, you couldn't

Anyways though, Spyro 2 is your answer

Sony payed the bill. It's a EU PS+ game.

And I would play Gurumin if it was here. But US only, so I'll need to wait until I get a card I can use for my second acount.

In EU can be played. I found weird that US couldn't specially when the Spyro game in the Spanish store seems to be the old US NTSC release (there is a USA flag xD

Yo frost you up for some soul sacrificing later on? I think its time for me to retire the game.

Quite possibly.

Are we done with DLC?
I thought more were still coming?
If more aren't, I'm going to retire it as well, I'll give it a proper sendoff with you tonight and then move it off my card.

Edit:
Ok, here we go, Cheddahz.
I loved Dragon's Crown -- network play works pretty well, they just patched it again, and EU folks in here will be picking it up soon, so a new influx of players are coming.
The game has a ton of variety in terms of character playstyle and customizations as you gain skills. The loot system works pretty well, and if you like the core gameplay, you could play for a good long time (I took 85 hours to platinum it and I'm still happy to bust out my characters to play if someone wants me to.) It looks pretty, it plays great (though there is some slowdown at times, but if you're used to the old brawler games on SNES/Genesis, it actually *does* kind of come off as nostalgic instead of something that mars the experience and makes the game unplayable). I think it's a great game for people who liked games like Capcom's Mystara D&D games, Castle Crashers (with more depth), etc.
Filesize is about 1gb, give or take if you're into digital. Patches are small, most are only a couple of MB.

Killzone is the best looking game on the system. The multiplayer is solid and the campaign has a ton to do if you're into the score attack/completionist nature (there are 4 ways to complete each mission; story, stealth, precision, destruction (or something like that). the latter 3 all have objectives you have to reach by the time you complete the mission [headshots/specific goals/time limits/etc.]). It's pretty much portable Killzone.
Filesize is large (3.3gb), and the day 1 patch brings it up to 4.5gb or so. Even if you buy the card, you need about 1.2gb of free space, so be warned.

I can't comment on Tearaway, since it's not out. A lot of people in here think it looks phenomenal. I can't find any excitement for it, personally.
I don't think you can go wrong with the first two choices, should you have an interest in their respective genres on Vita.

Actually, they did not misspell it. There are two correct ways to write the word- artefact and artifact. It's like grey vs (the inferior) gray, or ketchup vs catsup.

Thanks man! I have some money right now and I feel like picking up a Vita game, so yeah

Ok, I dropped my opinions above .
As always, take them with a grain of salt, as they're just opinions. ;)

Ahh, apparently it's the Queen's English.
Never seen that before.

It's funny, because I don't like it one bit. Just like I dislike gray (and refuse to use it).
That makes me a little less peeved.
And I learned something... thanks!

After everything you read, I'm probably going to go with Dragon's Crown. I only have a 8GB card right now, so Killzone wouldn't be a choice and Tearaway is something I don't feel like spending my own money (while it looks good, it's probably short and such). Once again, thanks for your opinions on some Vita games!

You have to be into 3D platformers/adventure games like Mario 64/Banjo Kazooie/Jak & Daxter The Precursor Legacy/etc. For people that like those types of games, it looks AMAZING.

I'm thinking of getting Ridge Racer 4 PSX, but I much prefer playing racing games multi, non the less- how's the single player mode at least?

Have to agree. I have put a few more hours into it and am seeing the trend of "go to point A, find x. Then go to point A and find y, then z, etc."

I have enjoyed it so far as it is pretty simple to understand, and gets you right into the action. Also, making a party so far has been fun. I like how your members are not useless but actually helpful. Still, will see how long the fun lasts.

I dunno about that.
I liked the original Jak & Daxter and Mario 64.
I love the R&C games, at least the PS2 ones.
I have SM3DL on my 3DS but haven't gotten to it yet.

So I generally like 3D platformers... but I just don't like the design/motif on a lot of it, which kills my interest. I'm open to changing my mind on it though, some of the GIFs posted in here do look great, so should I see enough gameplay once it's released that trumps my feelings on the main character design.

Anyone up for some Soul Sacrifice (only on the second or third chapter or set of chapters) or Killzone tonight?

PM me or reply. PSN name is KevinLarrabee

Quite possibly.

Are we done with DLC?
I thought more were still coming?
If more aren't, I'm going to retire it as well, I'll give it a proper sendoff with you tonight and then move it off my card.

Knowing SCEA we might not see it this Tuesday, it was suppose to come last week. We can play today and see if the update comes on Tuesday before we decide to retire. Although we can just wait for Tuesday and play next week.

I really want to see those high level mission tho.

edit: @Cheddahz you can join too since you have the game.

The next batch of Soul Sacrifice content isn't DLC, it's in a patch. Adds 16 10-star gemini quests.
