who will make the first crossplay psv/3ds game we already have:

My time with the Vita:

When I got the Vita, I already knew I was going the all digital download route. With some hands on experience with the device and it's Internet capability, I think this plan will actually work very well. My Internet is fast, so it doesn't take too long to get my games on the device. Having a variety of games at anytime is awesome since I take this to college with me.

As for the device itself, it has a better grip than I thought it would. Not as good as I would want them. For example I have no fears of playing my 3DS on the bus despite some sharp turns because I feel I really got a nice grip with the 3DS. With the Vita, I actually decided to secure it in the travel pouch. Second time I did decide to just play it and it worked well. Maybe I'm just overthinking it since it's a new system. The design is just gorgeous. It's just perfect to me. I'm one of those that loves the original design compared to the upcoming one. As for the screen, honestly I thought people was just overrating the screen to make the Vita appear better (I hear the screen thing too much) but dang... The OLED... A gorgeous device + a gorgeous screen = an outstanding experience. I'm just loving it lol. I don't see any Mura, I have no vertical lines, but I seen the black blotches. It's very faint however, and I think it's pretty cool to see what other GAFfers were saying come to life.

Now for the game. I can see why this is a problem for people, but a lot of the games that's been ported to Vita I never played. I never had a PSP, and this is my first system with PSN so there's a lot to play with the Vita. It's also becoming Indie Heaven so even more is coming my way. The only problem I have with games is that there's too much for me to play! Plus the Vita has some awesome exclusives I can now play. PS+ is the best gaming service and a great start when buying a Vita.

Customization really makes the Vita shine. It really makes this Vita mine! Having a Render and putting it over the default wallpapers makes the best results for me. The one thing I hate is how premium avatars can't be downloaded and set on the Vita. I would think this would be easy to add in a firmware update, but it's not there and it's been a year+ now. Thought this would've been brought up and added by Sony early on.

In conclusive, it's been a few days but it's a really darn good device. The features just shine for this thing and the Vita is the best companion for my 3DS. I'm set when it comes to JRPGs.

If I have a some more money I'd definitely buy Killzone Mercenaries. Doesn't matter though, I have enough to play. Drop me y'all PSN and I'll add y'all VitaGAF. If you refer to add me, my PSN is Gamerloid.

How many games are there that are even on both Vita and 3DS? It can't be that long of a list.

Off the top of my head-
Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7
Lego Batman 2
Lego Lord of The Rings
Lego Chima: Laval's Adventure
Lego Marvel Superheroes: Universe in Peril
Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate
EscapeVektor
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Time Travellers

EDF Players:

What's the best control scheme? The default only had 4 buttons defined and seemed odd... so I used the "basic" but I didn't like it much... it moved fire off the shoulder button which is good, but right stick ended up being quick roll?

HELP!

As I got my Vita a few days ago, I want to ask how many times until now there was a sale that included the Final Fantasy games (the PS1 stuff especially). If I recall correctly they did this at least once, in order to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary. So was it really a one-time thing or has this happened more than once so far?

I'm thinking of picking up both Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus games for the Vita, is this a good idea?
I've never played any of the Ninja Gaiden games before but I watched some videos and I like that kind of combat style in a game. From what I've read, they're both ports of previous games? Are both of them worth getting or just one of them, or neither?

Well, I've played and beaten NG Black on the original xbox and NG 2 on the 360 and both are some of the best action games I've played. It pretty much feels like you're playing an action game with the depth of a fighting game.

I do have Sigma 1 on the vita (I think I got it free from PS Plus) but I haven't put in much time into it yet to give my impressions. I heard its a really good port though and the only real downer was the framerate (which looks to a be solid 30fps anyway so that's good)

Only noticed it once myself. Not sure if it's common.

I can only speak from experience on the first game on Vita.

As someone who played Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, Ninja Gaiden III, and soon Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, I'm a veteran of the series. As such, I'm used to the console games and the 60fps I think of as almost a requirement for action games like these. With that said, the decision to go native resolution but cut the framerate in half bothered me. The game looks fantastic, but the timing is all off and things don't work exactly how they should. I think cutting the speed in half also messed up some of the platforming making it wonkier than I remember in the PS3 game. Furthermore the performance is even worse than 30fps, because it's not locked -- there is slowdown at points which will screw up your day and probably cause you to take damage you shouldn't have and frustrate you.

If you're a newcomer and you're not super sensitive to framerates and slowdown issues, then you can ignore all that. But keep in mind the Ninja Gaiden games are DIFFICULT (not sure how the ninja dog difficulty works, but normal and higher are NO JOKE and a lot of gamers find it to be frustratingly difficult at times).

Other problems with the game include some of the touch and tilt controls that were integrated into the game. Some you can turn off, some you can't. So when you hit the sections that require first-person aiming with the bow, they may infuriate you.

As for the second game? Apparently Team Ninja and Team DoA didn't see fit to share tech -- the game is apparently a worse mess in terms of graphics and performance... this scared me away from it on Vita. I was hoping they'd drop the resolution and pull some Team DoA magic (as in the 60fps looks pretty damn good DoA5+)... but alas, my hopes were dashed and now I'm waiting for a ridiculous sale before I take a chance on it. Others in this thread might be able to give you an idea of how well the port runs.

All of that said, I played through it once since I got it free on PS+ -- and I'll probably put it back on my card when my 64gb gets here. It's not what it should be, but it's at least worth taking a shot on if you think you might like it -- I'd recommend looking for a deal and trying a single game from the series first though.

Holy schnikes, that's a lot of text. Oh well, one more point to make -- Ninja Gaiden Sigma (not so much as the original Black) has a little more of an element of puzzle solving and exploration in it (Sigma streamlines it, but they still exist in parts). Sigma 2 focuses more on action/combat. Just something to keep in mind.

I wouldn't call it solid. If you get a bunch of enemies on the screen, it's common to see dips into the low 20s, if not the teens. It never hits slideshow though.

It's not exactly "common".
Maybe once a year. Maybe.

It's happened a few times... already once this year, I think.

Almost bought a PS Vita today. Walked into a gamestop that had the Instant Games Collection + 1 Year PS+ bundle up on their wall. Took it to the cash, the dude went out back and said all they had was walking dead bundles.

Dude got my hopes up for nothing. Isn't that bundle incredibly rare and sought after? So I didn't end up buying anything. However I went back in the store later and he had put the box for the Instant Game bundle, WHICH HE DOESN'T HAVE, back up on the wall! I asked if he had maybe found one after I had left the first time... nope. Just gonna keep sticking that empty box up on the wall.

Well they got you interested in a Vita right?

Go Gamestop?

:( Bro that sucks! You need to become Vitabro fast and join us in Killzone and a whole lot of other games!

I'm so torn. I kind of want to get the redesigned Vita. The screen difference doesn't bother me, I just want that extra hour of battery life. However, I imagine I'll wait for that forever and it'll never even be released in North America.

Personally, I have never had an issue with the battery. Especially when I put it in suspend, I swear it will last days an not even budge.

Hmmm. Well I still really want to get one for use with my PS4.

What's another good bundle to get? Right now the best contender for me is the Assasin's Creed Liberation bundle. I'm not interested in the others I've come across. (Walking Dead, COD, Football)

Awesome. Thanks for the input.
I'll just sit on buying either game for a while unless it goes on sale or (hopefully) goes up for free on PS+ some time. There are a bunch of other games I'm interested in coming out for the Vita that can distract me for a while anyways.

Yeah, it was on my list for $20 or less... but I'm really glad it was free.

I'd put it no higher than a 6.5/10. It's probably more like a 6, maybe a little lower, depending on how pissed off I am about the touch/tilt controls being mandatory and how frustrated I'm getting with some of the more difficult encounters/bosses.

The PS3 game I'd put more in the vicinity of an 8, give or take.

Framerate stuff bothers me a lot in action games and fighting games and shmups.
It doesn't need to be 60fps locked in action games, but it needs to be handled properly so that it feels responsive and NGS+ loses some of that responsiveness.

you have to get them to check other stores. i went with my bud to get him a vita and the same thing happened. i used to work there many moons ago so I know the drill. you have them check the SKU at surrounding stores, they find you. you then get them to call the store it's at and they hold it for you. they have to.

you go to that store and you get it.

The EB Games here sell a Vita + Killzone bundle, but it's not a prepackaged thing. I don't believe those exist. There's surely deals you can get around your area for a standard Vita + game yeah?

Finished off Golden Abyss tonight and am looking for something new. My options are:

1. EDF and Persona 4 Golden - driven by sale prices and great word of mouth.

2. Killzone - sweet eye candy and I've enjoyed 2 & 3 and will be picking up 4. Great word of mouth as well.

3. Say screw it and buy all 3 :)

Thoughts/suggestions?

I would go with the first option. P4G is one of the best handheld games ever and I heard that Killzone takes up alot of memory space, even if you buy the game physically, you need a pretty decent sized memory card

Just picked up EDF2017, been looking for it to drop to a reasonable price :)

Question for yall: should I pick up P4G despite already owning a hard copy? I'm kind of torn here.

Party foul, Cheddahz.
Yes, you should know that Killzone takes up a decent amount of your memory card (1.2gb patch). However, if you like FPS, especially Killzone, that is absolutely NO REASON to not play one of the best games on the platform. Especially if you're a new Vita owner and haven't filled up your memory card yet so you can spare the space easily. :P

Why would you? Unless you want to sell the hardcopy?
I suppose you'd be supporting Atlus, but if you're a physical media buyer, I see no reason to cop the digital version for another $20 unless you're hell bent on supporting the devs.

You should definitely grab EDF and P4G while they're on sale. EDF if you're interested in it (it hasn't quite clicked for me yet) and P4G if you like JRPGs at all.

As for Killzone, yeah, there's a 1.2gb patch that's needed to play online (I think you can skip the patch if you only care about offline). Not sure how fast the price will drop on it -- but if you like the FPS genre at all (and it sounds like you do) you need to play it.

What size memory card do you have, by chance? (Just curious as to how much of it the Killzone patch would eat up.)

Can't see a reason why you'd want to buy it again unless you want to lean towards digital downloads and sell your physical copy afterwards. I wouldn't drop the cash for another P4G if that's not the case.

Well with the 64gb card on its way, I'll be able to fit all my digital content on it and have everything available on-the-go. The bulk of my library is digital actually, but I do buy hard copies for the ones I want for my shelf collection.

Yes, the Vita deserves all the praise it gets from us, especially the OLED. The satisfaction rate with Vita buyers must be pretty high, nearly everyone falls in love with it after their purchase.
Killzone: Mercenary will blow your mind. The graphics are just incredible.

Anyone played Valkyria Chonicles 2 on Vita? Been wanting to get it, but want to make sure it works first..

AFAIK, it works via PS3 transfer in NA.

I only play with the advanced control scheme because it plays like a normal shooter (right stick aim and shoulder button for firing).

Ok, but then how do I do other things... like ROLL?
And why is there no sprint button? This dude is soooooo effin' slow.
I'm definitely down for co-op. Just let me know when you'd like to shoot for.

Muramasa Rebirth is just so beautiful on this screen. Pretty fun game as well. Can't believe I missed this on the Wii.

Well with the 64gb card on its way, I'll be able to fit all my digital content on it and have everything available on-the-go. The bulk of my library is digital actually, but I do buy hard copies for the ones I want for my shelf collection.

This is a hard one. $20 is a good sale, but I'm not sure if I want to tell you to buy it since you already have it. It really depends on how much you'll continue to use P4G. Is it something you'll keep going back to that having it at all times is very convenient?

For future games you purchase the physical copy for your shelf, will you also purchase digital for convenience?

Thanks! I must say that when I made the purchase I had a little buyers remorse, then a few days later anticipations until finally here I am very happy with the purchase.

Lcd screen will last you years unlike the oled one...

My vita time was 3 months btw oled hardware fault related. Sony tech support NEVER sent me a package to fix my Vita so I sold it for 80 bucks...right before the price drop. Sigh will prob get one again if we get the lcd screen ones.

Jump+left stick, but it only works for evasion moves to the sides/diagonals. You can't roll backwards or to the front if I remember correctly. No sprint but you are faster when rolling ;P

I loved them both.

People will complain about being 30 FPS instead of 60 (and 2+ has a dynamic resolution)...but PSV was my first shot at both games and I couldn't be happier. Thoroughly impressed and I recommend the games.

Take from it what you will:

I also loved Assassins Creed Liberation and still have fun with CODBLOPSD multiplayer.

Now asides:

Where is MaliciousRebirth?

Especially: where the fuck is Terraria? It's already embarrassingly late behind an iOS iteration. It's at the point where they might as well not bother - Minecraft mights as well be here before Terraria.

February of 2013
March of 2012.
Not sure about 2011.

Yeah... I just figured that out... though I have a feeling I'm missing some mechanics -- like how to control the NPC troops.

EU VitaGAF, I'm planning to buy the Killzone Mercenary + 8GB bundle next week. Does KZ come in a game card or a voucher for download?
