To add to this, Masuda even named the region for its mysterious qualities. The theme of antiquity and ancient mythological pokemon is pretty strong. From the Champion's occupation being a researcher on the topic, to the ancient statues, temples, ruins and murals, to the myths in Canalave city library. They went out of their way to create nice lore for that region.

Really interesting stuff, which is why I was disappointed Gen V wasn't as cohesive or well realized.

Sinnoh is definitely the best region. Isn't even close IMO.

Hiya Noibat... welcome to the herd!
New Kalos Pokemon count = 69 (if you count the Z Legendary; 68 if you don't)

Noibat is cute. Do we know if there's an empty spot between it and Noivern?
We don't have Noivern's pokedex number yet. We can speculate that it's 114... but it could easily be 115 as well.

They wanted D/P to center around creation and the order of the natural world. The continents, volcanoes, the moon, dreams, nightmares, the oceans, the processes of human thought, time, space, antimatter, "the other side". It's pretty obvious they wanted to explore a pantheon. You can see the mythological archetypes in quite a few of the pokemon.

Chief God: Arceus
The sibling rivals: Dialga/Palkia
The Dueling opposites: Cresselia and Darkrai
The opposer, the traitor and the Psychopomp: Giratina (the latter is based off of a dex entry from Pearl I think)
The guardian god: Regigigas

The pantheon deal ties in a lot with Sinnoh's motifs of history and tradition.

And ??? Arceus was implemented in case someone decided to screw around and change Arceus' type to ??? through hacking. The game would crash otherwise.

Edit: Damn, Noibat is adorable. Now that we have Goodra I hope we aren't expecting Noivern to be a pseudo.

Yes, Gen IV had an awesome awesome story with tons of detail. Playing Pearl made me realize I had a lot of fun with it. From start to finish actually. Everyone says Platinum is the GOAT though...

Noibat is cute. Looks like a ninja, Zubat am cry. Noivern and Crobat are soooo good.

Noivern is giving me psuedo vibes. I think its safe to say it is. Why the hell would they reveal that so early?? Marketing has been weird with X & Y.

Agreed, I really loved reading up Sinnoh lore, which is why I didn't mind its Pokédex having "tons" of legendary.

Johto lore was also interesting to read as well.

New Base Stat estimate (from Smogon):

Clawitzer:

HP: 70
Attack: 70
Defense: 100
Sp. Attack: 130
Sp. Defense: 100
Speed: 55
BST: 525

Does anyone know the starter base stats?
I read on 4chan that Delphox has 135 Sp.Att and I wanted some clarification.

I'm interested in this as well. I can't find the stat screens for them anywhere.

Platinum is excellent. I'm certain that if you liked Pearl, Platinum will knock your socks off. The little polishes it gives, and the climax to the Galactic story utterly trounces what we got in D/P.

Oh yeah, it would've been weird for a region utterly steeped in ancient stuff and legends to have an anemic number of legendaries. You can have lots of legendaries (IMO) if you build things up sufficiently around them.

Beautiful, the definition of a bulky water type. The 12th can't get here fast enough.

I still don't know why they created the Pokemon "God"

What was the point of that? What could be possibly stronger than that. Fatal flaw in design.

why would you ever need to go stronger than arceus? or you can go the marvel route, there's always someone stronger, he created the poke world? maybe someone created him, or the pokemultivers :P

Correction... Noivern can't be 115. Even though we don't have an updated Mountain Dex from ColtraineGF from today evidently Gligar is situated in Slot 115.

Unova was a really big missed opportunity as far as world building goes. You've got a region that's allegedly 3,000 years old that was born from epic conflict yet you only get a few vague snippets about it. The dragons themselves were pretty interesting, but they dropped the ball with really fleshing the world or its main idea (conflict and change) out. There's just tiny snippets of backstory about the two other legendary groups, and the recent history of Unova without any sense as to what sort of dynamics are at play between anything.

The bit with the twin brothers was particularly infuriating because that would have been the perfect setup for an Aqua vs. Magma style conflict in the main story, only without the flagrant stupidity that those teams exhibited. Say, two cults or organizations that follow their beliefs to the letter and have to learn to work out their differences for a better future. Maybe too topical, but I think that should have been the crux of the plot instead of what we had. I'm alright with N's story, but it shouldn't have been the center of the plot, and the whole "turn the pokemon liberator around" thing was not very sensible and diluted the message,

Dammit, that's adorable. I don't like Noivern, though...

Evertstone/Pressing B forever.

Yup, things like the submerged ruins and those glyphs that needed translating and the relic castle were tantalizing tastes of something bigger. Only it was never given the just it deserved, so things just fell flat. I wonder how Gen VI does things, though some reviewer comments don't inspire much confidence.

I get the feeling that might be the last new Pokemon we see (Z Legend aside)
Yeah, I'm actually beginning to rethink my thoughts on additional legendaries.

Not just a wrestler, but a ROBUST wrestler. I love it. This fucking game.

Also, Sinnoh > Johto > Kanto > Unova BW2 > Hoenn > Unova BW

That's all.

I think the one that revealed Delphox on Instagram (I think) had a stat screen of Delphox at Lv 36 with sp att, sp def over 100

That makes me think, is Mewtwo somewhere in the game or was there an event with the movie and you have to wait for the bank to be available? The Mewtwonite X/Y will probably have to be somewhere as well.

Still hoping that the National Dex has more unknown Pokemon.

Also, there's apparently someone on 4chan saying that any Pokemon that has IVs lower than 31 in a specific stat can compensate that by getting extra EVs. Probably BS but it would be a start to fix them.
THIS NEEDS TO BE TRUE.

Oh man, that would be SO nice. Any more talk of it?! It's probably just BS, but...it needs to happen! :(

Uh, Druddigon is a bit far too high there. I'd be disappointed if they keep the legendaries at a minimum :(

It's possible legendaries just appear in the national dex, though.
I would surmise that the Z Legendary does not appear in any regional dex... just the National Dex. I suppose additional event pokemon / legendaries could extend the National Dex as we go.

I'm guessing Mewtwo is 150. The Kanto legendary bird trio likely starts at 142 or 145.
It's also a possibility that the Z Legendary is 150. And Mewtwo (and/or possibly Mew) precedes the Xerneas / Yveltal tandem.
