Clearly Sudowoodo is in the game and will fill one of the 29 open slots.
But we still lack a Pokedex listing for it.

My best guesses for the outstanding regional Pokedex slots...

Coastal Dex

19: Frillish OR Feebas
20: Jellicent OR Milotic

99: Tyrogue
100: Hitmonlee
101: Hitmonchan
102: Hitmontop

103: Castform

141: Dratini
142: Dragonair
143: Dragonite

146: Corsola

149: Alomomola

Mountain Dex

14: Shuckle

68: Spiritomb

72: Bonsly
73: Sudowoodo

99: Aron
100: Lairon
101: Aggron

109: Joltik
110: Galvantula

129: Togepi
130: Togetic
131: Togekiss

134: Cottonee
135: Whimsicott

145: Articuno
146: Zapdos
147: Moltres

Torchic and other "event" pokemon releases will not have a slot in any Regional Dex. Only the National Dex.

Sugimori does the final render to unify the style, which would be necessary in any situation where more than one artist works on them. That changes nothing I said. What's remarkable is how these artists and designers have continued to create Pokemon that resonate with people of all ages, sparking their imaginations and fostering endearment. Each new generation is, for the most part, increasingly clever and complex without feeling overdone, and the fact they consistently manage to surprise us shows these guys are so far ahead of the game compared to any armchair critics who think their design school days give them any credentials.

That's not aimed at you in particular, just speaking to the general attitude among some in Pokemon culture that fails to see how "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." The fact that many people continue to be smitten with new Pokemon speaks to how well-done they are. I can study the lines and proportions of Xerneas and Yveltal all day and continue to be impressed by how thoughtfully assembled they are. Likewise with "simpler" designs like Goodra, where a simple swell of the silhouette conveys so much charm and power at the same time.

These designers and artists know their shit. They know what resonates with people, and they continue to pump out one unique creature after another. That's why they're a cut above the pretenders.

I agree with this 100%. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Wtf, Tyranitar has remnants of Pupitar.

13 years of Pokemon and I never noticed this.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised by this as well.

I just assumed it was like Larvitar and it was just its belly.
(You know, nothing special about that.)

Just realised he has a massive horn on his head again.

So awesome. All three stages coming together.

Yeah, that is pretty awesome combining aspects of Larvitar and Puptiar.

I am shocked by the number of people who never noticed that Tyranitar has Pupitar's shell in it. I mean, they did the same thing from

Proven by the fact that there are people on this very page discovering new aspects of 10+ year old designs.

Here I was feeling smug about knowing the Tyranitar thing and now I'm a little mind blown.

I wonder what else I've missed.

Okay this is just getting crazy. What else do I not know??

Every Regi has 7 markings on its forehead.
Dialga, Palkia and Giratina all have a different number of legs and total number of limbs (the latter not counting origin form)
The universe trio has primary typings that reference the three regular states of matter:Solid, Liquid and Gas.
Gengar is Clefable's shadow
Armaldo is a walking Anomolocaris
Nidoqueen and Nidoking are stand-ins for Baragon.
The Tao dragons have eye colors that correspond to the typing of another member of the triplet. Reshiram's eyes are blue like Ice, Kyurem's eyes are Yellow like electricity, and Zekrom's eyes are Red like fire.

Barbaracle's limbs are said to not always follow its head's orders. This is because its limbs are barnacles, too, and not actually limbs.

"Wobbuffet" is actually the tail, the big blue thing is a dummy (a wobbly buffer) to protect the 'tail'. This is why it can't directly attack.

Diggersby's ears resemble diggers/construction machinery.

Cubchoo's runny nose becomes Beartic's icicle beard - it even begins from its nose.

Upon more research it seems basically NONE of the original designers have anything to do with monster designs anymore. Basically Satoshi was the guy who approved of the designs and the team was made of 4 people. He stopped in 3rd gen I think. I don't think Satoshi does anything anymore and is more like the Miyamoto of GF, after D/P I believe we lost every last original designer.

I was suggesting my friend try and join the team because his Japanese and art skills are so good and he's over there now. But after finding this out I wonder if he would decide against it.

I think this is what bothers me about megas. It's like a rejected art major went to design these abominations and posted them on deviantart, confirming what a failure he/she is. Only it's official. It's a desecration of the iconic Sugimori art. It's like someone other than Toriyama designing characters for the new Dragon Quest. Maybe Satoshi is creatively bankrupt, who knows, and hey, it's financially lucrative to henshin up old pokemon in a new coat, but what a fuckup by whoever gave this the green light.

Its tail does have eyespots...oh snap.
