Pokemon X and Y Leaks, Releases Early

Gen 3 (in terms of region and creature design) is only not considered the worst because Gen 1 holds up so poorly.

Please. Gen IV is much worse than III, and Gen II (while having some of the best Pokemon designs) has a average region.
Gen III > I > V > II >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> IV

Gen IV is fantastic. Sinnoh is a great, varied region and I like most of the non-trash creatures they introduced in it. Whereas Hoenn merely got "acceptable" with Emerald, Platinum elevated Sinnoh to god-tier.

Pokemon opinions are officially so divided that people dont know what is "considered" to be anything.

"gen 3 is only not considered the worst because gen 1 is"

lol wut?

Gen 4 had great starters, a lot of good evolutions to existing Pokemon and a bunch of cool originals. The legendaries were crap though.

You Gen III/Hoenn lovers are crazy. Lemme break it down:

GOOD
+ A lot of good new Pokemon, I heart Metagross
+ The volcano with the ash lightly falling was cool
+ Abilities really added a lot of the game and made Pokemon unique
+ Pokemon contests were a nice diversion
+ Double Battles
+ Battle Frontier
+ Secret Bases
+ Bike puzzles
+ Trainer's Eyes/Vs. Seeker
+ 60 FPS
+ IVs Increased
+ Trumpets
+ Pokeblocks (I thought it was fun)
+ Natures
+ Twin gym leaders
+ Variety in Pokemon plot formula. Your dad is a gym leader, two Teams that try to take over the world.
+ The most varied locales in the series. Town floating on logs, walled city in the middle of the ocean, village in the forest canopy, a volcano basin, terrain that could only be traversed with certain equipment, etc.
+ Pokemon designs are vibrant, stylish and exotic.

BAD
+Hoenn had too much damn water. They even made a TM where you can go UNDERWATER because there was so much of it. There were many areas that were completely accessible only by water, which was a chore. It really lacked the diversity of even Johto, and that game consisted of mostly plains. Max Repel. Hoenn has a cemetery on a mountain and a Safari Zone unlike Johto. Water chore could easily be remedied by faster surf time.
+Removal of the clock affecting gameplay. No cool day and night cycle, no Pokemon changes depending on when you played, no special daily events. They could easily bring that back in a remake or DLC
+ Massive lack of Pokemon. I think about 200 were actually obtainable in RS, which is a bit over half of the existing Pokemon at the time. This especially sucked because there was no way to get older Pokemon into RS.
FireRed/LeafGreen/Colosseum/XD
+ Extreme disparity of Pokemon types. Do you love grass and water Pokemon? Well then this is the game for you. Fire? I hope you like Torkoal. Numel, Camerupt, Slugma, Macargo, Vulpix, Ninetales, Torchic, Combusken, Blaziken
+ Terrible rivals. You have a kid with some disease and your gender doppelganger, who never fights you with the fully evolved form of his starter. WHAT
Wally has a Gardevoir which automatically makes him cool.
+ Steven is so boring, minus his cool Metagross
Steven has a more diverse team with 7 different types compared to Lance's 5 types which all involved part Flying. He also didn't have 3 of the same Pokemon on his team.
+ Natures, while a good idea, were not explained well at all.
Shininess was never explained well.
+ Weather effects. Actually, I think they can offer an interesting strategy, but we had to put up with two gens of A SANDSTORM RAGES every turn.
It is a big part of the metagame.

I mean I put a lot of time into my copy of Sapphire, but it is the standout weakest Pokemon game. That doesn't mean it's a bad game though, but we're talking Pokemon standards here..

Quoting HypnoDarkrai because he corrects the wrongness of Forkball's post. My additions are underlined. Lol.

I kinda hope all the stuff in RSE eventually makes a comeback in the series. I miss Secret Bases and stuff.

That's a hilariously disingenuous comparison and you know it.

Gen 1 has a couple of my favorite designs, but for the most part I'm neutral or dislike them. On the whole, it's my personal weakest generation.

I'm not sure if you played Fire Red, Leaf Green because those games hold up incredibly well, not as good as emerald in terms of the main game but definately found it more entertaining than gen 4 for example. Even gen 5 is pretty meh, the only cool thing is like the N backstory.

Otherwise they are all essentially the same post R/S era imo, and black 2 showed this

I wonder how rose-tinted the Gen 3 lovers are, too. How many of them played Gen 3 first, I wonder? It'd be interested how hypocritical they are. My favorite Gen was 2, but I played Gen 1 first. I've gone back and played the Game Boy versions of the first two gens years and years after their initial release, still hold up in my mind for the experience, at least.

How I rank Pokemon gens, feel free to do your own. This is opinion based, so feel free to argue through rankings instead of acting as though people should share your opinion.

LeafGreen is actually my most played game, but I don't think it "holds up" very well. The world design and quest structure is painfully aged and it shows. Kanto's a boring region, through and through. It was great at the time, but when we started getting diverse locales in Hoenn that would be improved upon in Sinnoh, it's hard to go back to that.

My biggest issue with the Gen 1 remakes is that they try way too hard to be Gen 1 games instead of updating the quest and world to be in line with the modern games like HG/SS would end up doing.

A lot of useless Pokemon, sure. But aesthetic designs? They're pretty fucking great. None too busy, and it's got some lovely colour schemes. No weird limbs or stringy arms or extraneous stripes. Gen II had very memorable and cute designs.

Gen ll could use some weird limbs or stripes because a majority of it's Pokemon are boring, bland messes that look like scrapped Pokemon from Gen l.

You boxed your starters in the Gen with the best starters? Lol.
If by best you mean boring. The designs were So uninspired compared to other gens.

Gen two was definitely the cutest behind the original Gen.

Every generation is butt-fucking-ugly.

PEACE.

Yeah you better leave.

Played Red on my Purple Gameboy Colour when I was 8. That was my first game, and I think GEN III is the best.

I've been playing since Red/Blue.

among others.

Some really neat designs in there like my man Shiftry or Walrein but overall Gen III pokés are ass.

I always feel somewhat weird classifying Gen 1 and Gen 2 separately. Gen 2 is so clearly a "sequel" to Gen 1 that classifying it separately in rankings seems along the line of classifying BW2 separately to BW in rankings.

Gen ll could use some weird limbs or stripes because a majority of it's Pokemon are boring, bland messes that look like scrapped Pokemon from Gen l.

Well, matter of preference I guess. I adore more natural-looking Pokemon even if it means near monocolour schemes. Just feels more down to earth, less outlandish.

I played the entire series in order of release when they released. Pokemon Red on OG GAMEBOY.

Generation III is still my favorite. It had the best region, and and a lot of awesome pokemon. Gen II is the only thing that rivals the pokemon designs in Generation III.

Generation IV and V were the worse (IV more so than V).

If by best you mean boring. The designs were So uninspired compared to other gens.

Gen two was definitely the cutest behind the original Gen.

Gen ll was the most uninspired. A mouse/badger with fire on it's back/neck! A plant! An alligator that spits water!

Totally inspired compared to a turtle with an island on it's back, a steel winged emperor penguin, and a kickass monkey warrior with flaming hair. Totally.
