Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I hate multiplayer. I hate that developers are shoehorning multiplayer into games that don't need it. I hate that there soon won't be hardly any single player games left.

I wish Monster Hunter was on more systems... So that more people can play Monster Hunter.

I guess I'm a Communist.

We said controversial. Not outlandish.

Kidding, but I gotta ask for an explanation. They are:

- always talking about financial problems (sales never meeting expectations)
- games developed by them take AGES so this goes with point 1.
- upper mgmt seems to not be able to manage issues
- western games (from former Eidos family) sale decently yet they don't capitalize on these

I stared at this screen for ten minutes and have nothing but Bravely Default localization and FF XIV ARR being a success.

I don't know what I was thinking. And now I see DQ are getting (what I would assume to be) a ridiculous pricetag for mobile devices. Oh Square...come back to us.

Let's see... off the top of my head:

Symphony of the Night is a better game than Super Metroid

Halo has incredibly boring lore. So does Assasin's Creed.

Gears of War would have been better without active reloads

Bulletstorm was this generations best FPS campaign

Wasn't the localization finally funded by Nintendo or something? I don't follow that game's news but I'm under the impression Nintendo was like "You're still not localizing it? Come on, please, we could use a major 3DS game like this in the West. Here, we'll even help."

Final Fantasy XI not only deserves to be including in the numbering of Final Fantasy games, but it's also among the best. I only wish it was easier to play solo because I always hated trying to find parties and then trying to find people to replace me in a party.

Dragon's Lair and Space Ace are the best games/genres. QTE Games.

Stating that Link is left or right handed in a Zelda game is a sopiler. Stating that there's dynamic music ques that come out of the wiimote is a spoiler. Stating who is producing the game is a spoiler.

"Grown men playing Pokemon is weird and awkward" is probably a majority opinion. Although I bet they probably wouldn't say the same about Kirby.

If it's a good game, no shame in playing it even if the intended audience is kids. As for the adult Pokemaniacs out there, I'd normally think that's weird like bronies if the game didn't clearly have quite a lot of depth.

I don't think Pokemon is "aimed" at a younger demographic. Gamefreak just makes a point of making the series as accessible to as many people as possible, young or old.

I think JRPGs are contrived and thus, I do not like them. I've tried many times to get in to one of the good ones, but without avail. There may be one or two exceptions, but I can't think of any at the moment.

Ico? I can't bring myself to finish that game. It's so dull and not at all tugging at my heart-strings like I was told it would. Overrated, in my opinion.

Grand Theft Auto isn't that great of a series. I feel that Rockstar has other franchises that are much more deserving of praise, but for some reason, GTA gets the limelight.

I think your right. The trailer did say something along the lines of "Squareenix AND Nintendo presents".

  • I don't consider Mass Effect to be a genuine RPG series.
  • I find the GTA series predictable and boring.
  • I liked Saga Frontier. In fact, I liked it better than FFVIII.
  • I prefer the 2D/2.5D Marios to the 3D Marios.
  • I dislike 3D Zeldas, but mostly because I've found their controls to be crappy.
  • When people complain about JRPG cliches, I wonder if they realize that WRPGs have just as many cliches, just different ones.
  • I dislike the casts of Final Fantasy X or XIII, with the exceptions of Auron and Sazh, respectfully.
  • It's probably trendy now to bash AAA games, but I really don't care for most of them. This has more to do with the genres they tend to be set in rather than snobbery.

I don't get CoD.

Since i played loads of CoD 4 the series has just been going horribly downhill and i can't understand how people can still play it, when it's essentially the same game every time.

See that's interesting, because if you really enjoyed CoD4, and the series has been the same game every time, you should still be really enjoying every game since CoD4.

If your thoughts were to make any sense, that is.

Since I'm in this thread, I might as well contribute.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio. I like the music and the art style but the actual gameplay wasn't fun.

Please elaborate, I'd be interested to hear your rationale. IMO, they are both classics and the very upper tier of Metroidvanias. SOTN might be SLIGHTLY better then SM in certain areas (atmosphere, soundtrack, play control), but SM is a far more balanced and challenging game. Don't get me wrong, SOTN is amazing, but the experience system and surplus of overpowered weapons feels like permanent God mode.

I think Nintendo is just bunch old ass franchises for kids no older than twelve. Grown men playing things like Animal Crossing is strange.

(But if it makes you happy, do it)

I'm starting to notice a lot of these confessions are people saying older gamers (18+) playing Nintendo games that are supposedly aimed at children is creepy. So are all of you saying I should only play GUTS N SEX: THE VIDEO GAME?

I could not for the life of me get into Bastion

I thought FFXII was awesome

The Last of Us was only OK, storywise and mediocre, gameplay wise

Xbone doesn't seem as bad a console as everyone makes it out to be

CoD has sucked since 3.

The Vita is better than the 3DS bar none

Agree with the Xbox part, the one looks better games wise for me right now.

But I'm not getting either at launch so we will see.

The best trilogy this gen was Dead Space. GoW was always the same type of game, Mass Effect's last game was utterly dissapointing (as in, a bad game) and Assasin's Creed ran out of fuel on the 1st game.

Dead Space 1 was refreshing.
Dead Space 2 had better mechanics even if it started stretching itself a bit.
Dead Space 3 was no longer a horror game... but it was still a pretty fun game.

I REALLY loved Grand Theft Auto IV. I dig the storyline and really like Nicho Bellic. I think it did something different to the rest of the GTAs.

I think Nintendo caught me for this whole gen, and I believe it's the best of the three companies. I think I'll just stay with my Wii U and ignore the PS4 and XBone.

... I like D&D 4E over 3.5e and dislike the power structure dissapearing in 5E. Not videogaming but hey, gaming.

That reminds me of another one I have: Western games' attempts at gore and sex often come across as juvenile to me. It's like the games are programmed by a bunch of horny 14-year olds who just discovered the SAW series.

Seeing a lot of opinions that are hardly controversial on GAF. Maybe in a mainstream context saying "Halo sucks", "Uncharted is overrated", and "Nintendo hasn't been relevant since Mario 64" might raise some eyebrows, but on this site they're things that are posted regularly and with pride

I for one think that the entire SNES generation is overrated by those of us who grew up with the console (myself included). Nostalgia goggles, man. I formed this opinion when I realized that I absolutely loved revisiting and reminiscing on games I grew up playing on the console (Mario World, Donkey Kong Country series, Turtles in Time, Star Fox, etc), but when trying to go back to play classics I missed I'm either underwhelmed, disappointed, or bored ( A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, FFIV).The notable exception is Earthbound. That game is awesome.

I loved L4D1 but hated L4D2.
The only things I would keep from L4D2 would be the Charger, Wandering Witch, the ability to use mele weapons, and the event where an alarm went off and you had to reach the other end to turn it off.

Wasn't a fan of the Jockey, riot police zombies, swamp monsters, refuel scavenge events, or the L4D2 cast or overly long levels.

That's a shame :( I've missed out on the the majority of SNES titles since I had it so late as a kid. I've missed out on Donkey Kong, Mega Man, Zelda, Kirby, Star Fox, etc etc etc. I was mostly a Sega kid though.

Revisiting the SNES library and trying out all the games I've missed... I still find them very fun and now I can see why SNES is so highly regarded as one of the best systems of all time. It's probably my favorite system tied with the DS.

The entire downfall of Japanese gaming, such as can be argued that there is one, began with the Gameboy Advance. The GBA could have been the line in the sand where people said "no, thank you" to the products being offered, but instead its games were happily consumed. With the GBA, the companies came to realize "Hey, why bother trying to make games for better hardware. We can just reuse our 16 bit sprites and make just as much money.".

The failure of the PS3 in Japan is as much at fault with the PS3 being an expensive machine, both to develop for and to purchase, as it was the Japanese abandoning all home consoles for their handhelds and phones.

There's a thread out today about how Dragon Quests 1 through 8 are going to phones. There's a lot of posts of people who are expressing disappointment with the news. All such people who have ever purchased a single phone game or have purchased any handheld from the GBA to the present day are to blame, and they are the highest order of hypocrites on this board.
