I've made my case before in the starter thread. Feel free to point out what you disagree with or if you think my arguments have flaws, but I seriously do think that they did a great job making him look like a knight.

Sure. Try to draw a Knight. Think of the features that make it stand out as a Knight instead of a Viking or Samurai or Any other kind of armor and check the ones he lacks.

Shield: No.
Lance: No.
Visor: No.
Helmet: No.

Cape: No.

Funky Hair on Helmet: No.

Steel Gloves: No.
Any kind of Body armor whatsoever: No.
Some kind of Knight like stance: No.

Also I would given that Gamefreak might had took some liberties with the Knight design but Escavalier exists, he covers at least 3 basic tropes yet no one would deny he is based on a Knight. If you can provide a convincing counter argument then I'll be happy to change my tune but I honestly don't see it.

I would actually like to try this if you would give me an hour. :P I already disagree on the cape and shoulder pads though. It's pretty blatant that's what they're going for with the chestnut shell on his back thing, though they've merged that idea with a shield/backplate too.

None whatsoever, I guess I'm missing something? All the music does is turn me off, it's just bland and uninteresting. There's a few gems in there like the Rival, Professor, and PokéCenter themes, but I'm not a big fan of anything else. Hoping the Team Flare-related themes will be ones I like.

Here's the battle music against Team Flare grunts.

Personally I'm liking the music so far, especially the battle themes. Can't wait to hear what the E4 and Champion themes will be like.

Guys guys Shopto process my order for Pokémon X eeeeehhhh, now all I have to do is wait for them to process my order for Pokémon Y and dispatch it.

Aaahh happy days. :D

Sure. I actually expected his final evo to be atrocious but I end up really liking it, like some kind of mamal bipedal torterra or some random Megaman X mini-boss. Knight however? I just don't see it.

Also I was banned for the entire leak situation but I had read every page of this thread. Too many things to say but my reactions for everything is mostly very positive =D.

Leaker Josh:

Team flare was defeated last night and it showed kalos from a space view and
there was more than just kalos shown..
it was too fast for me to get a good look or picture but my curiosity is killing me, wish i could go back and see it.

Also, Scyther hasn't been spotted yet (Josh has defeated or is about to defeat the 8th gym leader):

havent even seen a trainer owned one yet, kinda disappointed.

You have to be living in denial city to think he resembles a Knight even slightly. He is a Chipmunk in an turtle shell with extendo arms. I actually like his design but it's like people where so sure he was going turn into an awesome Knight that they can't accept his design. Hence he looking really different in his fan art.

Fans of the lion don't say he looks like a Manticore and I expected Helioptile to turn into a badass Dragon instead of Batman but I accept the new designs.

Agreed.

He looks more like a Golem to me.

Strangely LOOOONNNNGG limbs, tiny head, spikes, "armor" that doesn't look like armor so much as just mummy wrapping, lack of a weapon or shield ... yeah.

The second I saw him I thought about this guy from Soul Eater (him AND his golems)

See, I'm fine if you think he looks ugly or whatever, but this is one thing I can't agree with. I think they did a great job implementing knightly features to his design.
You can take one look at Delphox and say "ok, that's definitely a witch". You can take one look at Greninja and say "ok, that's definitely a ninja". You can't do that with Chesnaught.

Edit: Maybe you can make the case with his shoulder and his shell as a cape, but you cant even see the those from behind. From behind he looks just like a turtle.

I'm going with Greninja, but Chesnaught DOES look like a knight. Maybe it's because I've played Dark Souls recently, so it's fresh in mind how there are many ways to approach armor, but I think it should be obvious from the presence of a helmet, the straight lines on the trim, and the segmented plating on the arms and legs that he's meant to evoke a knight, covered from head to toe in armor. Heck, he even has the beige color -- a compromise between a knight's silver and the earthy colors of his pre-evos. Of course, they've opted for a more naturalistic bent than the overly-literal attire of Escavalier. Here the armor is more like a built-in exoskeleton, fitting his form like chainmail. It looks great and definitely completes the RPG trio of warrior/mage/thief.

I personally think it's because it's more of a "centralized" design in a sense. Adding additional things, like something to replicate a sword or a shield, would by a bit odd as what would you make it out of? A spike from it's shell? Another shell? The other half of it's shell (I admit that would actually make sense)?

I do admit the spikes on it's hands could be a bit more offensive in their design.

Have had my review copy for 8 days now, has anyone else had it crash their 3DS? Only when playing this game I've had it shut down my 3DS completely once in standby and twice in gameplay, still had 3/4 battery. Wonder if its just an issue with the downloadable version and will be patched.

I like Chesnaught, but his design feels a little unfinished. Specifically, his head just looks plain; it seems like a wasted opportunity in a knight inspired design.

Chesnaught has a blade...well actually that depends on whether or not he learns leaf blade.

He does, where I can't see it.

Also on side note I always thought how cool the animé made Sceptile leaf blade looked, shame that he can no longer use that move.

Knights don't use Blades though. Does he learn Sacred Sword (might not be the name)?, that fighting move. That along with Spiky Shield might help slightly the Knight motif. That being said a lot of armored warrior used Sword&Shields without necessarily being knights.

Just by looking at his design I could think of an easy fix ...

Change the shell on his back so that it's detachable on the fly. Have a focal spike sticking out that can be pulled out and used as a sword (like the sword Pokemon's final evol. Def mode would have the shell in it's hands and the spike in the shell. Attack mode would have the spike out).

Worth nothing this is all fiction.

He's not really wrong. The horn samples Gamefreak used in all their GBA games were less than endearing.

So you're saying everyone wouldn't mind the trumpets if they sounded as real and bombastic as this?

I'm okay with that. Ricelia did a bunch of remixes using EastWest plug-ins and XY also relied considerably on them (which they have since DPPt, the key difference being that they don't suffer from compression as heavily as the DS's hardware limitations did) so it looks like we'll be getting this track in slightly-compressed form for the RS remakes anyway.

Eh? Well of course, it's a wishlist -- the question is what else should it include! :)

I'd also like to note, given the natural beauty of Hoenn, it lends itself well to a remake -- particularly as a remake would allow them to, say, greatly reduce the length of water routes and add new areas altogether.

A 3D world also lends itself well to the secret base concept since there are more directions to approach bases from and the world has a stronger, more immersive sense of place. Give the bases utility with beneficial mini-games and it's a fun way to introduce an addictive Animal Crossing-like layer of customization.

Well he does have a move called spike shield.

It's a hybrid cape/shield/armour though.

Chesnaught is meant to evoke a knight. Not flat-out emulate one. And he does evoke a knight, covered head-to-toe in his own naturalistic, exoskeletal take on body armor. This should be evident from the helmet on his head to the plating on his arms and legs to the beige color that compromises earthy hues and a knight's shining armor. He's fortified, front and back, top to bottom. He even has the ornamental trim of a knight along the edges of his shell-shield.

Any more blatant and it veers off into parody territory, which worked for Escavalier as a regular mid-game Pokemon but would be a bit too on the nose for a starter.

In this pic, from behind, he just ends up looking like a turtle standing on two legs with a spiky shell.

The spikey shell is part of the point though. Even if he is based on a knight you have to base it on the concept of a horse chestnut. I thought using it as a cape/shield thing was a pretty creative way to approach the design.

I would like Chesnaught more if it had some sort of facemask akin to armor, I think. Also shorter limbs/smaller shell because I think it looks awkward as is.

I also think Delphox would look a lot better with a wand. Because what the hell happened to the stick growing out of its ass.

no matter how often you repeat yourself I still don't see it.

Pokémon cries in the overworld, I loved that feature and don't know why they took it out.

So it just occurred to me that, for the first time, they can add brand new Pokemon to later games within the same gen (such as Z or Ruby2/Sapphire2), and then patch XY to be compatible with these new Pokemon. So like 10~15 cross-gen evos (or, more likely, megas) added to Hoenn sequels/remakes and then 10~15 new mons added to Z/X2Y2. Totally seems like something they might do.
