Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Okay, I've decided to buy EDF ASAP, since I really like Starship Troopers and this seems like the closest we can get to it.

Can I count on you folks to be there when I go online to play? Cause i don't want to be alone playing it :P

Wow, my 1st top of the page: uuuuhhhhhhh, get Need For Speed Most Wanted, people. And Dragon's Crown.

I go to my local Staples and use gloss paper. 5 prints or so cost me about $2~

imo, worth the investment if you wanna have a pretty shelf

My Staples refused to do them because they were afraid of copyright infringements or something. OfficeDepot was cheaper and much friendlier in my experience. :)

What the...........

What kind of game is this Malicious Rebirth thingy? It seems so sudden o_O

It plays sort of like a musou crossed with an action game with a slight hint of megaman all set in a "boss rush" type endeavor.

You pick a stage (a la Megaman), you fight a bunch of small/medium/large troops (a la Dynasty Warriors), but you can change weapons and abilities sort of like an action game, ultimately killing the boss and gaining a special ability from it (a la megaman).

Go check youtube videos posted in this thread to get an idea.

I would totally play EDF, but too bad big bugs creep me out

But you get to KILL the big bugs.

Same goes for ANY publisher with a game already on PSN.
Unless there's some snafu with music licensing (*cough*Crisis Core*cough*), there's no real reason to NOT do it.

Even in that case, license the music long enough to get it on the store. I bet you could make a good chunk of the licensing fees back if not turn a decent profit.

Having the crash games on Vita would be nice, but more importantly to me is the fact we still don't have MGS1 (or PO for that matter) :(

While I understand some of the reasons behind it, the various issues with bringing PS1/PSP games to the PSN (and then making those PSN games available on the Vita) is one of my greatest frustrations with the system. That, and the lack of communication regarding why, or communication about what steps Sony is taking to rectify the problems, or if folks should just give up entirely on the prospect of getting new PSN games (which would be downright depressing for a platform that needs more content as badly as the Vita does).

Final Fantasy V is Vita compatible in Japan and Europe, but not in America. Why? Final Fantasy I and II for PSP are available on PSN in Japan and Europe, but not in America. Why? Neither the two Vandal Hearts games nor the two SaGa Frontier games are available digitally. Why aren't Blood Omen or Arc the Lad 3 not Vita compatible (especially when AtL 1 and 2 are)?

It frustrates me that Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2 were PS1 games that later got PSP ports, and neither the PS1 originals nor the PSP ports of either game are available digitally. Likewise I hate that Breath of Fire III isn't available on the PSN as a PS1 Classic; the PSP port was released in Europe, and that version is available digitally -- it never came out in America due to SCEA's reluctance to approve ports at that time, but I have to think that this is something SCEA could now do right by and help get the game rated and released in the US digitally (something SCEE has done for games that didn't originally come out in Europe). And I would love to have Crisis Core on the PSN so I could play it on the Vita with dual analog support, song licensing be damned.

I'm not laying all the blame for this at Sony or even just SCEA's feet, but it's a frustrating thing about the platform in general and I wish there was more they could do or would do to fix it.

This sudden talk about EDF has gotten me interested. How many players can play online at once?

Is it like a sci fi MH thing? It's not really a new game is it?

Amano is one favorite artist of all time. practically grew up with his work so he will always be revered in my book

for those interested, there are tons of Vita - and other custom covers in this thread where I got those prints from.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442713

Amano is great indeed. As for the custom art and boxes, you might just have given me a way to have a physical collection still being all digital. :)

Hmm tbh despite this issue I still want to go all digital with the vita. The convenience of having all the games on the system trumps carrying and switching cards IMO.

Doesn't excuse Sony for ignoring this issue tho!

they aren't ignoring. theyve made a statement addressing the issue saying they are working on it. the only reason i can think that it hasnt/won't be fixed is because its too big of an issue and that its not worth fixing since itll just be overwritten with a new store update once ps4 rolls out. it IS a major pain in the ass. its been happening for maybe 6-8 months now...

i think people have mentioned turning on and off your wifi function will interrupt the loop and it fixes it... i havent tried it but I just download things spaced kind of far apart..

i think the software gets stuck on itself if you try to download items too close in time to eachother.

Chie would be cool if it weren't for the grating voice actor.

Still wouldn't be better than Yukiko though.

Hope P5 is in college so I don't feel as weird about this.

go to abload.de in your browser on vita.
browse to screenshots.
select and upload.

Awesome.
I'll try this later.

Since I'm home now, screenies for everyone:

Also some initial impressions:

As you can probably see from the screens, the game looks great. Native res, watercolory cel-shading, nice art design, and smooth animations. It just looks great in motion, and comparable (but not that close, tbh) to the PS3 version.
The controls are responsive, and for the most part I had little trouble adjusting to them - especially since they are remappable. There are touch screen buttons (that control actions like fast-falling or gliding), but I haven't had any issues using them. The camera is no worse than say, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, and you can adjust things like the rotational axis and movement speed.
Performance-wise, it seemed mostly solid. I'd say the worst drop was around 25fps, but I haven't tried every stage yet. Overall, the framerate was about as solid as Killzone.
At first, the combat is definitely a little repetitive, but you get more moves and abilities as you beat bosses. I will say that your basic attacks aren't very satisfying to use, but they aren't horrible or useless.. The Spirit Vessel you control is very mobile, with triple jumps and a very fast dodge that can be canceled into from every move I've tried. You can also land and move around on walls in a way that reminds me of Gravity Rush.
Very cool stuff.

So far, I'm enjoying it, but I'm not at the point where I can recommend it to someone. It definitely seems to be a "love it or hate it" kind of game.

Can't check youtube right now, I am at work, hahaha.

I am blindsided by this, actually, hoooh.

Anyways.......... EDF, Lone Survivor, and now Malicious Rebirth out of nowhere getting my attention too.

Grrhmmmmhhhh.

Chie would be cool if it weren't for the grating voice actor.

And considering that her original Japanese VA is the great Yui Horie, it's almost a crime that her English VA is so bad.

Persona 4 Arena has dual audio (possibly the only Atlus game ever to have that option) and it feels so much better to hear the original voices.

Awesome.

It looks great and all, but when I played this on PS3 - it was just too difficult and time consuming mashing.

Malicious looks great from those screens. Props to that. Still don't want it since I was hoping it was a story-based exploration action game rather than a boss fighting game.

what's wrong with chie's voice? I've played around 30 hrs~ of it and I don't really see that big of a problem with it.

The screens look good.
People who have PS+ and a PS3 might have the original game on their account for free and could try it out there.

Sounds like there's still drops, so I don't think I want to give them $15 for that. It took this long to port and they couldn't fix the framerate problems? :(

If it was like Killzone, that'd be great, as I've never seen a drop in Killzone yet.

The stage with the airship (knight with a minigun and big shield) and the one that's like battlefield of yore (with the giant ship in the center that has a lion's head) are two of the more intense/filled arenas.

Are you going to play a bit more?
Can you post more impressions of the technical issues as you experience them please?

Dragons Crown for $29.99 on the NA store. Worth it or should I expect it joining PS+ freebies soon?

Yeah, sure, it'll be PS+ soon.
About as likely as being able to retire before 40 to live on a beach without ever worrying about money again... ;)
I'm more than willing to be that it's not coming to PS+ anytime soon in NA (PS+ in general (especially for Vita) in NA isn't good to begin with).
Do you really think they're going to give you a game that doesn't even normally get the 10% discount as a PS+ game within 3 months of it's release?

TL;DR: If you're interested in DC, buy the game while it's on sale!

Yeah, I'll play a bit more before I hop on EDF.
Since you brought up those two stages specifically, I'll go over them again and see what I can spot.

How bad was the PS3 version, btw? I've only seen youtube vids so in terms of performance, it'll be difficult for me to compare them.

So, is my Vita basically fucked?

Touchscreen seems to have a deadzone now, and it still has intermittent spazzes despite a few hard-resets now.

Is there ANY way to fix this, or did I spend $250+ on something that didn't even last a year before shitting itself?

It's better than the original VA that's for sure.

P5 won't be in college. College in Japan isn't like college in the US. (There's a post by Ryoga here that touches on this in greater detail)

The stage with the airship was the worst one that I remember where the drops happened most. The only stage I ever beat was the one with the knight with gun/shield. There was one that was like a Colosseum with a big rhino like thing that I kept trying to do and would end up dying and one with a small person about the size of the spirit vessel in a building of some sort (I remember stairs).

Part of the problem is, as I said earlier, the way you glide everywhere... so some of the floatiness to the animations helps to camouflage the drops.

The game, on PS3, should've been a locked 60fps. I'm not even sure how they didn't manage a locked 30fps. The game isn't that graphically intensive or anything.
I'm not as sensitive to it as my friend was, but it was bad enough at points that I could tell there was slowdown and I felt it was affecting my gameplay.

Isn't manufacturing warranty 1 year so you can send it in for service?

AKIBA'S TRIP 2 CHARACTERS ARE SO GOOD

I need this.

please someone, anyone bring this to the west.

unstable 30fps, massive framerate drops in action with many enemies (which is most of the game since that all you got actually) it goes and drops from 24fps to even 15fps sometimes.

It's better than the original VA that's for sure.

P5 Should be set in SEGA universe, like Dr. Robotnik High School, you play as high schooler Shadow and you can date Amy Rose.

so after playing with the 2DS two times now, I've decided to cancel my 64GB card memory vita order for that fisher price toy

pls forgive me kaz ;_;

I'll get it when it comes stateside

Have we ever have... pardon the seemingly-condescending term, "Otaku games"... published here in the west for Vita?

I want it too :(

Also, reading everyone's responses here, Malicious Rebirth is of questionable quality, huh.

I am actually now in the middle of deliberating whether buying 50 bucks PSN card or 3DS or both... Honestly I am leaning towards the 3DS card... I mean, Ace Attorney is coming.....

Does that make me a traitor too? ;____;

Well, looks like I panicked too soon.

Spraying some ancient static-removal spray from the 50s that's been out of date since forever on myself caused my touchscreen to suddenly function like it was brand new.

Gross.

That makes you a dirty traitor!

Indeed.

I love handhelds too much to be bound by one company~

I hate MS xbox with a burning passion, but fug me I'd buy a portable xbawx from them in a heatbeat. I've always been interested in Forza anyway.

You already have a 3DS Xl. Why would you cancel more space on your precious vita for ANOTHER 3DS without 3D? :\

I still don't see your point.
I played an Ace Attorney game once.
I really did not like it.
Lump it in with Monster Hunter as one of those things that just isn't for me.

Well, Ace Attorney 5 is my most hotly anticipated game right now. Seriously. Although... once I deduct 30 from my 50, I literally don't know for what I am gonna use the remaining 20.

While on Vita I can think of a bunch of stuff I want to buy, but then, once again... Ace Attorney....................

Suppadoopa wants no part of non-FF/non-pokemon consoles. Wonderswan color though should be there with it's ports of the early FFs

Has anyone else bought Atomic Ninjas? I've been trying to connect to any kind of match for half an hour, but no luck so far. Closest I've come to actually playing the game (outside of the training) was getting three other players lined up for a match, but then the server spent about five minutes loading and the other players dropped out.

So far, my impression of the game is that it looks nice, but if the training is anything to go by, it may have severe camera issues -- as in, it's an online brawler (a la Smash Bros), but there's no way of seeing the entire fighting area at once, only the area immediately around your player. Hopefully online matches are different, because if they're not, that seems like it could be a major flaw.

Malicious screens earlier in this thread look awesome.

They do. They make me want to buy it if the performance issues are mostly gone... waiting for the next update from our tester. ;)

I promised Cyborg I'd upload this.
This was taken after I died about 5 seconds into a mission in SS -- I had the resolute sigil on (1 hp) and wasn't aware that Cyborg had changed the pact and it was one that you're in the stomach map for (where your HP constantly drains cause everything is acid). I told him to immediately sacrifice me since reviving me was pointless. He wanted to know how low my score was at the end of the round.
