It's not his fault really. They've been up shit creek pretty much since the beginning of this gen. He now needs to make as much profit as he can in as short a time as possible, hence porting their entire back catalogue to smartphones. Making proper games on proper consoles is a long and costly affair, and porting to iOS is quick and easy. If it weren't for Eidos I personally think SE would be completely irrelevant by now.

Luckily, I'm not very partial to Final Fantasy VI like many people are.
So this doesn't particularly bother me.
Final Fantasy IV has been remade multiple times, including for mobile devices. And I've enjoyed that fact. Even while, for some reason, I still prefer the original SNES version.
I don't understand how having something made you don't like or doesn't personally appeal to you, ruins something you do like. It isn't like this port is going to take away Final Fantasy VI for you. But then again, maybe I'd understand if I were a Final Fantasy VI fan. Or had a major aversion to mobile, either.

Welp. Looks like Bravely Default is still the only reason why I acknowledge this company's existence. Hopefully that IP will make it through at least one generation before things come crashing down for it, too.

Not surprising after I heard on the Bombcast how huge cellphone gaming is in Japan. This is what will be from now on I fear. When we ask why they wont make great ports to either handhelds or consoles they will say "Not enough of you bought the Cellphone remake!!!" and we will all die a little inside.

I'm totally okay with that, though. Such a port would probably be based on the recent PC re-release and that one is dead solid. It won't be the full-fledged remake people wish for, obviously, but it should look decent and be decently playable.
If they don't somehow find a way to make it look as bad as FFV I might end up buying it.
Actually, I wish they would just skip FFVI and just move on to VII. God, I don't want to imagine what they'll do with FFVI. >__>

What's horrific is that these redrawn sprites were actually done by Kazuko Shibuya, the original sprite artist who did the sprites for the NES versions. She didn't do FF:ATB and FF:ATB has better sprites than these remakes :/

GAF please feel proud and relieved that we were privileged to play the original version of each of these games that Squaresoft made on his glorious days and assume that it will never be the same.

1) I mean, we knew it was coming since FFI-V had already received the same treatment.
2) It's not like their development is getting in the way of something else. And it won't affect the original in any way. You can already play the original in like 10 other devices. Just like it was first released.
3) Game is awesome. More people should play it. iOS & Android are a huge market you can't avoid nowadays. It makes sense.

Maybe some people actually want an actual remake and not this most-likely low quality crap (given that they said it's going to have visuals similar to FFV iOS)? I don't even play FF much (never got far in any of them) and even FFV iOS's visuals made me go "what the fuck is this shit?" It's ugly as hell and looks like a disgrace to the original game.
But I can relate to them, being a huge Mega Man fan, I saw horrors of shit like that Mega Man X1 iOS "remake" and the god awful X Over game.

SquareEnix is cramming damn near their entire library on mobile devices, I wouldn't be surprised if they start reviving shit to put on that platform. If I can say anything, at least they're dedicated I guess.
