Final Fantasy VI is being "remade" for iOS and Android; Square interested in FF7 iOS

Because FFV looked like total garbage and they specifically said it will look like FFV, so with the entirety of the information we have right now, it sounds really shitty.

But I expect you didn't want an actual answer and posed an argument in question form.

Why wouldn't I want an answer, man?

I can understand people getting mad if they wanted to play this in their iOS/Android device... That's fine! Really, the game looks like garbage.

But most people seem mad just because they don't want square to mess with their favorite game and all... Well, their favorite game still exist. Nothing is going to change that.

Isn't the person who designed the updated sprites the same one who did the original?

Heh, those sprites do look good now that I'm actually paying attention to them.

I was blinded by the same shitty font being hamfistedly used everywhere. As a person who cares about typefaces, I can't look at these screenshots without throwing up a a bit in my mouth.

My "favorite" part is in the second screenshot, a character speaks and they didn't bother differentiating the character name from its spoken word ("Father!"). No bold typeface for the name, no quotation marks for the spoken part, nothing. Truly the work of amateurs, and a company like SE shouldn't accept this kind of shoddy work.

Welp, it was inevitable. I hope they put a bit more effort on it than on V. They should be able to pull the PSP FFI+II look on phones. FFI on phone is actually a reworked PSP version.

And people hate the 3D remakes of III and IV now? I thought they were well received.

Wow. People really like Final Fantasy VI. People really really like Final Fantasy VI.

Where have you been since the mid-90's?

Anyways, I'm not a huge fan of VI, but V is my favorite FF, so I understand a lot of people's pain here. If a remake of these classic games is going to happen its something that should have a lot of love and effort put behind it, and the iOS remake of V is not something that meets that expectation.

Uh... yeah? This isn't exactly late breaking news. There are basically two choices to the question of which FF are the most beloved
and the answer between those two basically boils down to whether you were born before or after about 1981, lol.

What's the significance of 1981?

Beyond the 'that was one of my fav games" consideration. I hope you're all seeing how we're contemplating the death of a culture there. I remember having had that chat about the fifhth one already.

But touching FFVI graphics, remodeling it to any new public, like you would change the design of a smartphone, is not only disrespectful. It's a little more than that. It's the videogame industry not acknowledging its own legacy as something valuable as a cultural element. That means FFVI, as the epitome of pixel art and art direction that it is, has no value. It's a functional item that can be arranged with time, like a piece of shit that will bring them some quick cash.

of course nobody will really give a shit and most people actually think their videogame leisure is not really worthy of museum anyway..

That's just sad.
I'd like this kind of thing to actually raise some audible and massive protest..

neither shocked nor mad just

Six was so easy already.
I definitely agree that the game didn't require grinding. It does require a little bit of strategy if you want to avoid battle as much as possible. But that's rather the point of the traditional turn based battle system.

Nonetheless, that won't stop people who don't like Japanese RPGs from criticizing them based upon this complaint.

We used to be Square's intended audience...

I mean, theoretically Square Enix releasing a remake of an older game on iOS only means that they view the iOS audience as a part of their overall audience, not that they no longer view you as a part of their audience. Games like FF XV and KH3 are supposed to be games that target you instead of the smartphone crowd.

At this point I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some nutjob actually walked into the Square Enix office in Shinjuku and burned it to the ground.

They seem to literally hate their fans.

I don't get the big deal, why is a final fantasy release a bad thing even if it is on smart phones. FF7 would prob get a high-res upgrade and hell maybe even a better localization

It's funny that they'd get less hate if they just lazily put out an untouched snes or gba rom on the App Store (assuming no legal issues would intervene).

Can't wait to see how ugly this looks. The comparison to FFV iOS is not a flattering one. They should just go ahead and release it as an RPG Maker game, but I guess then it'd have to compete with RPG Maker games that actually look good.

Take a look at how SE treated the remakes of FFIV on both 2D and 3D. Then compare that with what they did to FFV (and surely will do to VI).

It's not even funny.

We all knew it was coming. We all could see how far S-E has fallen from their glory days. This isn't unexpected. Just sad.

It'll probably look just as shitty as FFV.

Like... FFVI is a step up from say... Mystic Quest in difficulty. It's not a hard game. The only reason to grind is to just breeze through it. I don't understand. Why is this happening.

Maybe you didn't read any of the thread or any of the threads surrounding the other iOS releases.

Basically they are butchering their back catalogue and putting the laziest, shittiest ports possible onto the App Store. People want their old, beloved games to be treated with respect, and to be given good reasons to pick up the new ports. They don't want ports that are objectively inferior to the originals.

Also no, FF7 would not get those things. This is Square in 2013.

Why aren't people allowed to be upset that the inevitable FFVI remake will, at very least, begin with a really ugly version that is not what people expected or hoped for, much less one that pays homage to the memories they have of the game?

Like, I'd really like you to explain why that's not something you find acceptable for others to do.

No, and at this point it isn't even insulting anymore.. I don't even know what it is.

God... WHERE in Final Fantasy VI did you ever need to grind?

I've completed the game with level 40 AFTER dragon's den... level 20 after Kefka. You never need to grind in this game.

Oh, nothing, I just picked kind of an arbitrary early 80's year. I was basically thinking if you were in jr high or high school in the late 80's/early 90's you'd prefer FF6, while those who were a pre/teen in the late 90's or beyond would prefer 7. I probably should have picked a slightly later year now that I do the math.

And that's the thing that's interesting to me. Like, Mystic Quest-level difficulty wasn't even acceptable back then, an era where people were used to unfairly difficult games. And SE has the gall to use "less grinding" for an easy game like FF6 as a positive spin.

The meteor tiles is so offensively ugly. How the hell did they screw that up? Look at how it's tiled lol

The whole game has shit like this. They don't even fucking try. With FFI - IV, they were mostly ports of remakes. V didn't really have a remake, so it got a demake.

VI will follow V. Watch how lazy that new paint looks on the game.
