Final Fantasy VI is being "remade" for iOS and Android; Square interested in FF7 iOS

This is an instance where I honestly think simply running the original sprites through something like HQx would be better.

Yup, I'd take it.

In all honesty though, Final Fantasy VI is my favorite RPG of all time. I discovered it in jr. high in 2001, but I didn't fall in love with it until I played it on my Game Boy Advance my senior year of high school in 2006.

I always dreamed that it would get the 3D remake treatment a la Final Fantasy IV.

I am so disappointed by this.

Huh? Those 2 shots look fine. It's that one town shot people keep posting that looks bad.

-Inconsistent visuals
-terrible character sprites (seriously, they look so bad)
-Bland ass battle UI
-terrible dialog box

and I love how the mugshots doesn't exactly match the characters :|

This is better than stodgy old-fashioned video game companies trying to stave off "irrelevance" with their handhelds though, right?

Go mobile devices!

Oh, nothing, I just picked kind of an arbitrary early 80's year. I was basically thinking if you were in jr high or high school in the late 80's/early 90's you'd prefer FF6, while those who were a pre/teen in the late 90's or beyond would prefer 7. I probably should have picked a slightly later year now that I do the math.

I was 10 when Six came out and have never looked back. Seven was amazing and great and those cutscenes back in '97 were beyond imagination, the Aeris thing.

They are both amazing games, but Six has my heart.

FUCK YES! ALL OVER MY IPHONE 5S

I'm one of those people that actually strongly prefers this type of filter for games in the 16-bit generation on up. And doesn't care for scanlines at all.

Scanlines look good in some games, you can tell the art was made with them in mind. It's screen curvature filters that baffle me.

I have no idea why GAF has this instant negative response to these cell phone port announcements. Isn't it nice to have these games on more platforms?

Watching how one of the best developers slowly (faster in recent times) becomes something like... like this is truly disheartening.

Double Fixed: I love how Square Enix doesn't give a fuck about ANYTHING.

If they gave two fucks about their mobile audience, they would have taken more of an effort with their remakes (ie, not shit RPG Maker graphics and excessive price tags). And that's not even getting into All the Bravest...

Why SE. Can't you skip VI and proceed straight to butchering the game I don't have fond memories of? This will not turn out well.

It would be if what they were releasing was actually the Final Fantasy VI that fans will remember. However, that isn't what we'll be getting.

I didn't play VI until the PS2 era. After I had already played VII, VIII, AND IX. I didn't actually finish it until 2006.

It's still my favorite RPG of all time.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Oh man... after DQ I didn't think this could get any more awesome. I WAS WRONG!!!
Hey, they still have room to grow. I mean, they haven't officially announced their intent to re-release FFVII on iOS and Andriod yet.... ><;

Making the game "easier" doesn't make a lot of sense either. The only "grinding" that would be "needed" involved early game spell unlocks via the magicite system or breaking the curse on the shield late game. Both of those things are optional. Just progressing through the story and doing some of the 2nd half of the game "extras" gets you powerful enough to complete the game. Getting the mime, squatch, mog, shadow, etc are nice to do, but are in no way required to beat the game and even if you do get most of the roster filled out in the 2nd half, you don't even really use them for the vast majority of the late game anyhow.

I guess this is just an example of S-E just "doing it wrong" yet again. :(

Why wouldn't I want an answer, man?

I can understand people getting mad if they wanted to play this in their iOS/Android device... That's fine! Really, the game looks like garbage.

But most people seem mad just because they don't want square to mess with their favorite game and all... Well, their favorite game still exist. Nothing is going to change that.

its not a matter of they're making it garbage.

it is about that what they could really do to a game da really deserves a awesome remake with FF4 DS style but just way better!

do you understand now? its just like when you see that ice candy car, try to get to it but when you finally think you're getting it, its gone.

gone

forever gone, and you'll have to deal with that fact. NO ICE CREAM FOR YOU ON THAT HOT SCORCHING SUMMER DAY.

No worse than the originals, at least in those 2 shots. In other shots they look worse.

The originals weren't anything to write home about either, but the iOS sprites manages to be much worse. I hate how soft the new overworld character sprites look.

oh and I dislike how they have the characters' mugshots stick out of the dialog box... what is up with that?

Did anyone honestly expect a remake on any platform other than iOS and Android?

uh yeah, 3DS? You know, sort of like how they redid EVERY OTHER FINAL FANTASY (bastard child FFV RPG Maker Edition aside) on the DS / PSP before they went to iOS? Why WOULDN'T you expect that is a better question.
