Rumor: Nexus 5 to launch at $299(16GB), $399(32GB, 2300mAh battery)

What is it about a battery that makes it less useful as an upgrade compared to screen size, processor speed etc? Just because you don't want to pay more for a larger battery doesn't mean that it's some scheme. People need to realise that you're not paying for the raw cost of the products plus a bit of margin - the price of an item is about demand, not cost. This is the case in all things.

Numbers don't tell the whole story. It will be 1080p IPS but it can still look worse than an HTC ONE, G2, S4. It will have a snapdragon 800 but still be slower than all of these and a 5s/5c.

Benchmarks have already leaked which show, graphics wise, it bests all other android phones and matches the 5S. Leaks have already shown it is clocked at the same speed as the G2. They are not skimping on the soc, they are skimping on battery size and build materials to keep costs down on this phone.

I don't believe this two tier battery rumour at all. A 16gb and 32gb version, sure, but not two battery size models. No leaks have pointed towards anything other than a 2300mha cell at all, other than these rumours that have been pulled out of someone's arse.

Gonna stick with my 4 for about 3 years before I upgrade, I'd rather wait two or three different nexus generations. Itwas an amazing bump from the N1 to 4.

I experienced the exact same bump, and agree it was amazing. I feel that Nexus phones really last a good long while, partly due to being stock android, they keep running everything you need way beyond the time they really should be.

I'd stick with my Nexus 4 for a bit longer if it had LTE.

It was a non-issue a year ago, but now that T-Mo is rolling out their LTE network (and hopefully will extend it to their MVNOs soon), it's definitely something I'd like to have.

If the Nexus 5 is as awesome as it appears to be, I'll probably keep it for two years, minimum.

So is there any reliable leaked pic of the hardware. I'm mostly concerned about the physical specs (height X width) when compared with the S4.

Plenty, the dimensions of the phone have been leaked as well and it is slightly samller than the Nexus 4. I think the N4 was a little thicker than the S4 but a little shorter?

Ohh really? That's is disappointing. I always wanted Sony to take a crack at a Nexus. Any reason why?
Nexus devices cut into OEM's brand recognition. Its why Sony doesn't want to make one, Samsung stopped, and this will probably be LG's last one.

I bet Asus makes the nexus 5.5/6

Moto did it with the MAXX

the same exact phone hardware, same firmware even, but a bigger battery...

Not sure what this is referring to, forgive me. You mean it was the same as the N4 with a bigger battery? If that was your point I don't see where you were going with it.

on the other hand, bigger batteries do cost more to make.

Like a few bucks at most, it's nearly always a space/thermal issue not a cost one. Turning around and charging $100 more for it is awful.

Slightly smaller than nexus 4 would be awesome. The GS3 is still the most comfortable device for me to hold once you go beyond a 4.5" screen. I think it has to do with the slight thickness of the device. The GS4 and similarly thin devices just feel like they're going to slip off when I hold them.

What's so confusing?

The Droid Razr and the Razr Maxx were the same phone with the exception of the latter having a larger battery and, thus, a different body.

16 GB, huh?

Meanwhile 20 TB home storage isn't near enough for me.

I can't wait until 1 TB internal storage and 1 TB SDXC cards become the norm.

Okay. But there's still no point. How does this story end?

A: "I think practice X is bad"
B: "This person has engaged in practice X"

Is the conclusion that Motorola sucks (I'd tend to agree)?

A friend got a G2, it's an amazing phone. The display is one the best I ever saw on a phone. If it's just a stock android G2, should be a really great deal.

What? The only person making a value judgment was you.

Faceless (and I) were just stating facts; that this already happens.

Rumored, but not confirmed (FCC documents points to yes). Though I'm *this* close to jumping ship from Sprint to T-Mobile. If I can't even stream Google Music reliably for my commute, then unlimited data is useless to me.

I'm eating the remaining ETF and bailing out of Sprint, getting two of these phones and signing up for T-Mobile's 2-line plan for around $100 with no contract.

I take every opportunity to say this, but it can't be said enough: I've been a longtime Sprint customer and it has gotten much worse from a few years ago and not kept up with consumer mobile habits. The combination of iPhone signups and the rushed switch to 4G LTE has made their network nearly unusable. 4G Wimax wasn't great (iffy indoors for one), but it was zippy and it worked. For a year now, Sprint LTE frequently hangs and literally does nothing (probably due to congestion) -- location in the city or time doesn't matter.

Now they don't even have claims to being the cheapest or the only ones with unlimited. T-Mobile isn't perfect, but I've heard their high-speed network is actually stable, widespread in cities and most people get either reliably quick HSPA+ or 4G LTE. In its current state, no one should get Sprint if they plan on using a medium to high-end smartphone. Sprint is much, much worse than every other major player in the industry now.

I went from Verizon to T-Mobile and I can say two things You notice the difference in speed but its like 10 vs 9.5. Its noticable but I can get by with Tmobile seeing how im only paying 60 bucks for 2gb of data and unlimited voice. My Nexus 4 and 4GLTE is amazing never looking back!

As far as the N5 I think ill buy it but ill end up waiting a bit since I put my cash down on my PS4. N4 is still good I really really hope it starts at 299 I can live with that. If they do make a 32gb 3000mah I might get that but I don't think that rumor is true. Google hurry up and annouce the phone!

It's gotta be more than a few bucks. Otherwise we would have got 3k mah phone bats 2 years ago.

Not everyone needs more storage, my wife for example never gets close to maxing out 16 gig, but everyone needs better battery life. Linking the two is a shitty move if true.

Thats a good point. Personally I saw it as them saying if u need 32gb then w/e you storing on that 32gb is gonna need more battery space i.e movies/music

damn I've never even seen a Nexus 4 in person or ever irl tbh...
or in store displays
why are they so rare ?

Because carriers, retailers, and manufacturers are more interested in selling phones with profit margins of several hundred dollars instead of one with a reasonable profit margin.

N4 does have LTE though. It just needs to be rooted.

I've been using T-Mo's LTE on my N4 and happy with the speeds so far.

Mine will be here today. $119 for the upgrade too. A steal for a monster phone I think. And I don't mind being stuck on Verizon two more years, as the 5 is not coming to Verizon soon, and our family plan has a lot of shared data and its partly paid by the company anyway.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with LG in the past. My first nexus 4 was a dud I RMA'd it about 2/3 months after launch. My mother bought an LG TV against my advice when I told her to buy a sony instead that was the same damn price. That TV developed a huge purple line a month after the 1 year warranty ran out.

I just don't like LG all that much. I wish Sony would make a nexus but doesn't seem like it will happen. Asus? I don't have any experience with them. Do they even make phones?

Will Google ever get into the hardware business? Opening a factory and assembling their own hardware? I think it is inevitable and hope they do eventually. Will be a lot of growing pains at first but I think it needs to happen.

I'm so tempted to get a new phone, and if I were to, it'd be this.

Still rocking a 3GS, so yeah more than past the time to upgrade but, it does everything I need it to, albeit a tad slow.
Hmm decisions, decisions.
