He's one of the few artists in mainstream hip hop who is willing to push the boundaries of the genre.

Basically this. Musically, especially production wise, in the mainstream he's very much setting trends or breaking boundaries. Whilst I do feel lyrically his old work is considerably more poignant, musically his newer work makes more of an impact. Even the music video's and promo's etc that go with them, down to the art, media, publicity stunts et all.

Very much looking forward to his next project, but I just hope he makes some ground in the fashion world, else his new album also runs the risk of having an overly aggressive, scatty style and personality about it.

When he started out he was basically doing what the RZA did but with backpack rapping, and nowadays with Yeezus, MBTDF, WTT he pretty much just takes other peoples music and 'exec produces' it into something he calls his own. He's less of a composer like Beethoven and more like a conductor or something. I can understand why the average person thinks he's so amazing though.
