PS4/Xbox One Features that still need clarification?

So both the PS4 and Xbox One will be available in a little over a month, what features still need clarified?

PS4

- If Instant Demos will be available day one.
- If uploading footage to YouTube is a day one feature.
- If we can save our footage to the hard drive instead of uploading it to a social media website.
- How the game library will work. We still haven't seen it.
- How tying PSN accounts to your controller works.
- Almost everything about the PS Camera.
- How/if media servers will work.

I've heard so many conflicting reports, that I still don't know if Twitch will be available day one on either platform.

I also still have no idea which countries will have which Kinect features available day one.

Anything HDCP related.

?

That was already cleared up for Sony. They will release a firmware patch after release (they didn't give a specific date...) that will remove HDCP from game output. HDCP will still be on movie output, of course.

As for the Xbone, there has been nothing specific other than a statement from them that it will be similar to how the Xbox 360 does it now which is no HDCP on gaming content. But since it came from a MS PR rep that's nothing to believe.

Peripherals. Clusterfuck on both ends when it comes to headset support, wheel and fightstick support, general bluetooth devies and pretty much everything else. Doubt there will ever be more clarification than there is now because theres no good news. Better to just bury that stuff until launch. Or even until after launch promosing post release patches that may or may not ever come.

Will Xbox support MKV files

No official word but

In the perfect world and as a media center it should

In reality it won't because MKV is heavily associated with piracy and Xbox being a industry friendly media device will try to ensure customers are paying for everything they watch on the system in some manner.

Best to assume nothing will work and be pleased when it does, The majority of things for 360 will not work for Xbox one because they have made improvements to how things interface to the console in their own words "Only Xbox One accessories will work with Xbox One, which helps us deliver better headset audio and other benefits"

PS4 is slightly different and they have announced some comparability I believe but don't expect too much.

- If Instant Demos will be available day one.
I thought this was already answered (no). Instant demos are done through Gaikai, which isn't launching until next year.

The only other one I can guess on is YouTube integration, which I would answer as "probably not". Even if it's enabled on day one, server load because of "new toy syndrome" means most people wouldn't be able to use it.

And while I'd love for videos to be saved to the HDD, I don't think that's their plan.

PS Vita remote play features.

How exactly does it all work? Are all PS4 games really compatible? Do you need a good internet connection/Wi-Fi? Can it work with online multiplayer games, say COD?

TBH, this is something I need to see work instead of confirmations.

I currently use my PS3 to stream music and video to my TV using PS3 Media Server, so I'm interested in knowing more about the support for DLNA, container/codec support, visualizer, whether we can stream audio while using other features in the OS, etc.

I know the consoles are supposed to be super fast, but I was wondering, can you have the console launch straight into a certain digital (not physical retail) game or app rather than to launch the dashboard/dynamic menu?

We don't know if there's a system-level option to have all audio output go through the 3.5mm jack on the controller for PS4.

I think the XB1 issue that I want clarification on is the external HDD support. All we know is that it's coming, but the specifics are a pretty big deal considering the limitation of a non-upgradeable HDD.

No
Probably.
Yes
OS tour videos are coming soon apparently. Hopefully they show some of that off.
Was killed before the February reveal
Yeah I dont know whats up with it ether.

I dont understand that sony and microsoft still dont have a full video explaining every bit of option and feature we'll find on day one... Its so close and it looks like its still a work in progress or something. I wanna see settings, i wanna see the stores, i wanna see the customization possibilities.

Friends list ... As the number has grown for the new consoles. How do it effect current gen friends list.

How the heck will that work on my Vita 200 300 friends or more ....

because os is probably being worked on till a few days until launch.

Will the rumble triggers on the Xbone work on PC?

No reason why they shouldn't they are just mappable commands essentially. If the game supports it then the controller will.

Knack devs said it's something the PS4 does at the ground level and they only have to map key commands for the vita so every game will support it.

Q: You showed us how you could use the Vita as a second screen in your living room. Is that local only, or is there any ambition with Gaikai to use that as a server and get further away in the living room?

A: Technically speaking, it works from anywhere, as far as you have a wi-fi connection from your Vita to the PlayStation 4. It needs to be wi-fi. However, for some games, when you play or connect from far away, it accumulates latency. Some games may not be playable, like fighting games or shooting games. But some other slower paced games will be playable. As long as you have home routers anywhere in your home, you can play every PlayStation 4 game. We ask developers when they finish the PlayStation 4 product and submit a master to make sure that they have the appropriate controller mapping to work on PS Vita. All games will work – unless it is a dance game [laughs].

Headset adapter for Xbone

Nothing official but its a safe bet if you have one of the more advanced headsets like the Tritton Warheads you won't get anything from it, It likely just works as a puck converter so that the old input fits into the new controller.

My questions, hoping somebody knows them:

Both
* mkv support?
* still stream (DLNA)?

PS4
* Same old PAL store or are their changes? (Release issues and pricing)

Xbox
* is the fitness thing US only?
* will regions without cloud servers fall back to P2P? Can we select the instance we connect to?
* can I unplug kinect (I've seen conflicting reports)

What do you mean launch? The new consoles never turn off... They all go in a sleep state when you're not using them. Imagine how the 3DS/Vita works, that how the new consoles works too. The only time you will do a full boot is if you need to install updated or you lost power.

Oh right, I forgot about the sleep state. Thanks.

Any links? I've not seen anything at all.

Xbox blazed the trail back in 2005 by introducing Xbox Live Achievements as a metagame whose cumulative score – Gamerscore – spans across games on every Xbox Live platform. Many of today’s gaming systems followed our model and now offer achievements or badges as well. With Xbox One, we are once again breaking the mold and this time, we want consumers to reap more tangible benefits. In addition to Gamerscore, which will remain as a critical part of the Xbox gaming experience (and yes, your Gamerscore from Xbox 360 will carry forward to Xbox One – there’s only ONE Gamerscore (see what I did there?)), consumers can now unlock digital artwork, new maps, unlockable characters, and temporary stat boosts via achievements. And this is not limited to games! Other Xbox One applications such as video and music apps can now use Achievements to bring you awesome sneak peek content, early access, or subscription extensions. Only games will give you Gamerscore.

Thanks, but is Australia a prime region?

Launch Region and English speaking.. Its a safe bet you will get it, if not at launch maybe later. All just assumption but its a safe bet I'd say.

Concerned by the lack of talk over the "remote play" takeover feature where take over a friend's game you help them out.

That was the one I'm most excited for and we've heard bupkiss.

Pretty sure that's a Gaikai feature, so it would be 2014 only.

But I definitely don't know for sure.

Few questions about game recording

Xbox One: Can I use the game DVR for longer than 10 minutes?
PS4: Can I use the game recorder for longer than 15 minutes?
PS4/Xbox One: Can I export the DVR/recording to my pc for editing?

Edit: Can you place the Xbox One Vertically? I recall reading it wasn't supported.

This seems very inconsequential to many but I loved how on the 360 I could set inverted at the system level for each genre. PS3 had it at the game level and I would have to manually change each time.

I hope for me and my brethren that this will appear at the system level for both XBone and PS4 users.
