A young man at Shanghai University crafted a display of candles with the help of bystanders to express his love to a fellow female classmate. The girl and her friends then responded by throwing a basin of water on him. Our hearts crumple with his dampened polo shirt.

Scroll through the photos below and pinpoint the exact moment this poor man's heart shatters into one million pieces.

Is this becoming a new trend or is all this shit fake? It's like the third 'guy humiliated in public by his gf/ love-interest' article I have seen in a week or so.

God, how terrible. This all would have worked if he had Taylor Swift playing in the background. Thoughtless.

Hopefully he apologizes to her, begs for a continued friendship, and convinces her take a photo of her hands for GAF.

Took a lot of guts doing what he did even though ill adviced.

How cruel to respond like that.

Let us be honest. If a girl had made this display and a boy had thrown the water everyone would be saying what a giant asshole he was.

So is a basin of water standard issue for Chinese girls or something?

Also tsk tsk at the inconsistency: the letter 'U' should have been two candle lines thick - he paid the price for his hubris.

I don't find it funny at all.

She must've been embarrassed he did something so publicly that she returned the favor. I can see where she's coming from but she could've spared his feelings in some way. There was no need to embarrass the guy. Probably had to work up a lot of courage to do something like that, especially when there were a bunch of onlookers.

Not cool, lady. Not cool.

This exact same thing happened to a friend of mine once. She was a university student and a fellow classmate with whom she was only a friend of a friend asked her to come to the parking lot of their study hall one night. She went out there and there were candles on the ground in a heart shape and he expressed his love for her. She didn't pour water on him, she just said no.

Lesson to the guys, when the girl barely knows you and you pull a stunt like this it's not romantic it's creepy as fuck.

What the fuck did he think was going to happen?

Listen up kids, cause this is an important lesson:

Only do stupid shit like this if it's a sure thing. If you're not already a pubic hairs width from sealing the deal, then you might as well have spelled 'Ur a cunt' in cute little candles for all the good it'll do you.

What a dope.

Days like these...

I'm thinking this poor shmuck didn't know her (maybe secretly obsessed with her) and he caught her off guard. I can't imagine a girl you're dating/friends with would do this to someone unless of course she's a real bitch and if that's the case then he just saved himself from a world of misery.

Man, it's one thing to reject somebody, but it's a completely different ball game when you humiliate someone for whatever purpose.
Pretty much this. V
