Rumor: Nexus 5 to launch at $299(16GB), $399(32GB, 2300mAh battery)

Where do I find this new plan? $30 a month is extremely attractive, even if I have to deal with shitty coverage. Tmobile has the thing where you can receive calls over Wifi right? I read that somewhere (to help with coverage at home).

The wifi thing is only on tmobile branded phones from what I remember. A nexus device like this does not support it nor have it.

There are android apps that allow you to make calls over wifi using Google Voice. Ain't perfect, but better than nothing if you're in an area with zero coverage.

They do sell them. $10.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Tmobile-30-Wireless-Airtime-Card/15443357 (Edit- fine print says it only works if you buy the phone through Walmart).

I'm not seeing it on their site though.

Edit here you go: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans

Scroll towards the bottom, on the right.

I started a T-Mobile Unlimited topic and people there said you could bring any phone you wanted (not just ones purchased through T-Mobile or Walmart).

So what I'm guessing is going to happen today:

>Nexus 5 gets announced
>Sells out on the Google Play Store within an hour
>I'll find out after work and be unable to get one for months

Yeah, I was referring to buying the plan from Walmart. Just need to activate the Sim/phone through tmo's site and you are good to go.

I'm going to do this with the N5. I found out about their $30 after I had already went through a tmo store.

Yes, and there is a tmobile app called bobsled that lets you place wifi calls for free too but he was specifically asking for receiving calls which isn't possible without the wifi calling app preinstalled by tmobile.

So what time would this release if it does? Noon? Any time? I really want one so I'm curious if I should be watching at a certain time.

I'm not one to usually jump on these new phone hype trains (my phones are usually well behind the eightball) but I'm eyeing off a new phone for about $300 and, low and behold, as I'm searching there's talk of this beauty.

Thing is, I'm in Australia, so I'd rather get one imported than deal with what I assume would be a ridiculous Australia Tax. Where would be my best option to get one? Am I even any chance of getting one?

That's the plan! Don't forget about first batch software and possibly hardware errors that will get fixed in every sequential batch.

I'd be checking eBay. I'm also from Australia and I managed to snag a Nexus 7 (2013) for $199 + $24 shipping. Brand new. I believe the seller I purchased from was Adorama, so perhaps check their eBay page.

They were selling a fairly large quantity of Nexus 7s under RRP and at a very reasonable shipping rate to Australia so I was very pleased with them.

I should also add that this was even before the Nexus 7 was available locally in Australia.

Never mind when is goes on sell, is there not an unveil event today for the N5 and KK? Not seeing anything about it on any of the tech sites/blogs. Thought they typically streamed these and made a to-do about it.

It was a rumored event/announcement. Nothing official.

Just a heads up, those who need to buy a nano sim for tmobile, it's on sale for $.99 + tax if you use the coupon code OCTSIM. I just used it to get my nano for whenever this actually comes out, a lot cheaper than the $10 standard fee.

If you have service with them (may have to be post paid or long standing), their 1800 number CSR's will give them out.

Are any of their plans even considered post paid anymore now that they're without contracts? I think the only people who would jump on this for tmobile would be prepaid subscribers, especially the $30 monthly plan people.

Yea, post paid just refers to a recurring monthly plan where they bill you after you've received service. Has nothing to do with contracts. Prepaid obviously requires you to pay for your service in advance with an airtime card, or however they do it these days.

Stop teasing us with your Verizon category tag!

That says Nexus 5 will have Nano Sim. Anyways I ordered a Nano Sim off T-Mobile's website, it was only $1.05.

Yeah that's what life said but I thought I remember the manual leaks saying micro... I don't think anyone has a clue at this point. I'll probably just order both while it's on sale. It's only an extra $1.

Edit: Haha, seems others had the same idea as me.

Ah, ok. I wasn't sure since it said that taxes and fees are paid on post paid plans but the new tmobile plans are one flat fee with taxes and fees included in the price.

So this won't work on Verizon? WTF?

I may switch to AT&T. It's actually a bit cheaper for me through my employer.

Is this supposed to be better than the Galaxy 3?

Why would an OS update mandate a SIM card requirement? A nano Sim is a cut down micro, which is a cut down normal one. Makes no sense.

Thanks for the info. Might have to go with ATT then.

google be your friedn

There is no phone called the Galaxy 3 and there are multiple phones that have 3 and galaxy in their name. Seems you need to learn how to use google friedn.

You're still naming a phone that doesn't exist, no matter how snarky you want to be.

You could use apps to use a google voice number for free calling and receiving of calls over data and wifi but if data is spotty it'll suck and they'll have to call your google voice number instead. Otherwise, yeah, att is probably your best bet.

Yea sounds totally fake. Also alienating so many phones out in the market right now. Completely counterproductive to what Google wants. Pretty sure they don't want to see 4.4 have like 5% of the Android adoption next year due to this dumb ass clause.

I wonder how many will bitch and moan about the lack of a 3000mAh variant of the Nexus 5 when it only just a rumor, a horrible rumor at that.

There will be no 3000 mAh Nexus 5. Just a 2300 mAh non-removable battery.

You have to admit though that a 3000 mAh battery would be amazing, plus it's kind of weird pricing wise then. Google has pretty much also charged $50 to double the storage and now they're charging $100 which makes it much harder to swallow. I'd pay $400 for a 32GB with a 3000mAh battery in a heartbeat, $400 for just 32GB makes me have a hard time choosing between 16GB and 32GB.

If you are asking me, I've never had a smart phone, let alone an unlocked one. I assumed it came with it when you chose what carrier you want.

A third party would never just give you random sim cards, you always get them from the carrier.

There's a new rumor now that the 16GB nexus 5 will start at $400... They claim they'll release a LTE version of nexus 4 for $300 and have the nexus 5 start at $400. That's such an awful idea that I'm assuming it's complete crap.

Ok, so if I do buy the Nexus 5, I have to buy a sim from tmobile then? How long does it usually take to get it?
