Pleasantly surprised? We were hoping for $300. :( I guess this solidifies the 32GB will be $400 then since google likes to make it a $50 difference?

Yes. I'm shocked they were able to keep the 16GB version at $350. This year's model has way higher end specs than last year's. You can't just expect the phone to get better (relative to competition) and the price to stay the same. It's already dirt cheap.

i'm probably going to go ahead and buy my way out of sprint and hop on my mom's tmobile account. she has a spare line that she's basically paying for nothing.

Yeah, I can always hope though. :P I guess this definitely pushes me to the 32GB then if it comes out at $399. I wish this thing would launch already, the wait is killing me. :(

Looks like it's going to start at $350 and 16GB. I'm pleasantly surprised.

If the 32GB version is $400 I'll be able to trade up from my HTC One at no cost. That would be amazing.

$350 is amazing!

With the Nexus 5's solid specs + LTE, I was worried Google was going to begin using premium prices.

With those specs, I'm not sure how It could've been any cheaper.

Not much to complain about folks.

i honestly dont know how they manage to offer such a beast of a phone for 350.

they're selling it at cost. Google isn't really interested in making profit on hardware, its all about collecting data and getting people using their services. This is why you see so many of androids best apps on ios.

Indeed. These phones don't cost anywhere near $600+ (a la, Galaxy S4, HTC One, etc.) to manufacture. There's a large-ish profit margin baked in there, since these manufacturers make their money at the point of sale.

Google, on the other hand, like Amazon, sells the devices at cost (not a loss), because they don't care about making money upfront. They will make their money when you buy apps, music, movies, etc.

Why are people disappointed with the price? Its essentially the same pricing as the Nexus 4 (16GB), which everyone agreed had amazing value.

Like someone else mentioned, Im guessing some people were hoping for another 8GB model for $299?

I dunno, I suppose having that option would have been fine, but I sort of loathe the 8GB phones. Its not enough space for me. But its a good suggestion for light users on a budget.

$350 is fantastic for a premium phone. I just hope that they can make enough of them to meet demand.

Meanwhile the 8GB iPhone 4S is $450.

same price as the nexus 4. or were you also hoping for an 8gb?

No guys... The rumor in the OP and other sites said the 16gb would be $50 cheaper than last year and start at $300, that's the whole reason people thought that. There was no rumor or even hint all this time of an 8GB model, that was never happening.

Because N4 has been massively discounted for the past few months. I picked up my 16GB N4 for $250 plus they gave me a gift card.

sorry but the rumor claimed the more expensive 32gb version would also have a larger capacity battery. there was zero reason to believe it

Eh, maybe but doesn't mean the whole rumor was wrong. In this case it was but it's not like it was completely unbelievable it could launch at $50 cheaper.

i understand that, it's just that in no other industry do you see flagship undercut everyone else by half. it's cray cray.

wtf I'm blown away people are still using it let alone for another full year after this.

I gave my GF my GalNex and she's perfectly okay with it's performance. Most people I know, if they like their phones, stick with them until they break.

I would only recommend upgrades if the additional processing power is required. Otherwise, why not save up the money for something else?

I think that's the anomaly this time around, considering that most Nexus phones were not top of the line at launch.

To be fair, it wasn't that old since I bought it in July. I've never seen a phone discounted that much 9 months after release.

No? You haven't seen $200/300 phones (with two-year contracts) drop to $99 on contract a month or two after they launch?

It happens very, very often, especially when they're clearing stock for new devices.

Heck, the Galaxy Nexus hit the Play store at $400 in April, then dropped to $350 about two-to-three months later, if that.

The fact the N4 held its price for so long is an exception, not the rule.

Yeah it's crazy. It's also crazy how little impact (at least in the US) it has on the market because of the carrier situation and subsidies. I mean to most people they just see $350 vs most other flapships subsidized to $200 or $300.

Outright price I mean. On contract prices always drop, but outright prices usually stay quite stable from what I see up here in Canada.

I really hope the price for the 32gb is $400, but I'm sort of expecting the price to be $450 for some reason.

Galaxy Nexus GSM cost $700+ at launch (November). I imported, which always carries a premium, it for $440 four months later (March).

It's very common. Maybe, you don't buy off-contract often?

Edit: Updated the price with shipping costs.

Yes.

I know this classmate that is still rocking a gingerbread phone. Won't replace it until it breaks.

Haha, my phone is a gingerbread phone. I dropped it like a month ago and cracked the screen and now the screen is jittering up and down sometimes which is why I'm upgrading, otherwise I'd still be using the same phone. The phone is getting worse though so I'm like dying as I'm waiting for this phone to come.
