Rumor: Nexus 5 to launch at $299(16GB), $399(32GB, 2300mAh battery)

Galaxy Nexus GSM cost $700+ at launch (November). I imported, which always carries a premium, it for $410 four months later (March).

It's very common. Maybe, you don't buy off-contract often?

Hm. I'm suspecting it's due to the import price versus carrier price since import price reflects the current market price more accurately.

wtf I'm blown away people are still using it let alone for another full year after this.

Well I was late to the party, bought it when it appeared on the Play Store almost right before the Nexus 4 was announced so I've really only had it for a little over a year, even though the phone itself came out in 2011 I believe.

Also it may sound stupid, but I like my bottom headphone jack.

Haha, my phone is a gingerbread phone. I dropped it like a month ago and cracked the screen and now the screen is jittering up and down sometimes which is why I'm upgrading, otherwise I'd still be using the same phone. The phone is getting worse though so I'm like dying as I'm waiting for this phone to come.

You must have the patience of a saint lol. Her phone reboots at random times. Slow as hell. My Droid Incredible was like that at some point. Couldn't stand the phone. To the point where I stopped using it instead of carrying it around.

Does anyone know if the N4 would work on MetroPCS?

Just posting this here too.

Haha, I hated every minute of it at times but couldn't justify playing the ridiculous unsubsidized prices but after seeing these specs and the phone getting worse, I've finally decided to bite the bullet and get something new. I phone would randomly reboot, the keyboard would crash and require a reboot, and other issues... If I was vigilant about closing programs and clearing the ram it was fine but if I forgot it would bog down pretty quick. It's going to be weird not having to do that. It also got bad because there was not much internal memory and some things it wouldn't let me change to save to the SD card which would slow it down a lot too.

Not new ones though.

Theres always the option to upgrade early. Although I don't know why you would when you could buy a nexus outright for $350.
Wish I waited.

Got my S3 last December and I hate it already, stuck with Bell for 2 more years, but I'm going to get the Nexus 5 anyway lol.

Unlocked, unsubsidized prices:

Nexus 5 (16GB)
$350

iPhone 5S (16GB)
$650

HTC One (32GB)
$600

Galaxy S4 (16GB)
$600

LG G2 (32GB)
$600

Yeah, it's not too bad lol.

Was just gonna ask if that price was without contract. That's gonna be my new phone.

Finally, should only be a week or 2 now.

I've been limping through all kinds of hell with my Moto Atrix (3G only Korean version from when I lived overseas)... Moto wouldn't upgrade past GB 2.3 either when they promised JB.

Had to unlock the bootloader and put Cyanogenmod on it, which isn't officially supported on my phone so it's buggy as shit.

Phone doesn't charge past 74% and is dead within 5 hours, launching camera freezes on a black screen, youtube/embeded video doesn't work, random reboots throughout the day, laggy as shit, wifi broken....

Why I put off replacing it for so long, I don't know. But a glorious boost to Nexus 5, stock OS, guaranteed upgradable goodness (fuck you motorola), is gonna blow my mind!

Gimmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

So what are the differences between this and the G2?

I'd say the G2, HTC One, and iPhone 5S have the best phone screens on the market - but the first two winning because of dat 1080p. Does this share the G2's screen?

Almost the same as G2 just slight differences.

Both screens are 1080p, G2: 5.2", N5 4.96"
Camera on G2 is 13MP with OIS, N5 is 8MP with OIS
Battery on G2 is 3000mah, N5 2300mah
OS on N5 will be Kit Kat 4.4

Other than that, pretty much identical.

The back looks so plain and cheap. No interesting design like the 4.

It's just like the soft touch on the Nexus 7, which if you've held it is fantastic. It's a comfort thing. It also keeps things consistent between the Nexus product lines.

1. what's the cheapest LTE plan in the US?

2. how much can I sell my 16gb Nexus 4 for?

3. 2300mah battery? driving a 1080p 5" screen? This is going to be worse then my Nexus 4 :(

Cool! Thank you for the rundown. Curious to see battery life.

At $350 I would totally dual wield this and a 5S since I'm up for contract. Sell off my dust HTC EVO 4G LTE for $125~ and I've got a 5S and Nexus 5 for a total of $450!

Well it for sure won't last as long as the G2, but it won't be as bad as some people are thinking.

The snapdragon 800 in both the G2 and N5 is a power sipper, and even though they're both 1080p screens, the N5 is slightly smaller. While it's not a huge difference, it does require less power to drive a 4.96" vs 5.2".

I'd also expect Google to have made some software improvements in 4.4 that would improve battery life, or they would have gone with a larger battery.

Anyway, I just so happen to be one of those Canadians with a Galaxy Nexus on a three-year contract. To be honest I'm still satisfied with my phone for the most part, but LTE and all the other improvements would be nice. If I were to buy this phone could I just take my SIM card ans put it in my new Nexus 5 and have it all work fine, or would I have to call Bell and go through some shenanigans?

Yeah I'm hoping for good things from 4.4 as well.

You shouldn't have any problems switching over. All Nexus phones come unlocked. So essentially just pop the SIM and go. The only problem might be if there is a physical difference in the size of the SIM card.

I'll have that issue when I switch from my Atrix which is standard SIM, to the micro on N5. You can either cut it yourself (which I'm going to do as I have a micro sim cutter, you can also find the dimensions online and cut it carefully with scissors) or buy a new SIM card from Bell. There's no other tech difference between SIM/Micro/Nano, other than the size.

It should switch over to LTE automatically if you had LTE data but your phone didn't support it. If it doesn't, just call Bell and tell them you'd like to be on the LTE network. That's all I have to do with MTS if it doesn't switch by itself.

Anyone use Straighttalk? If I get this I'd have to get a new sim card as the one in my Galaxy Nexus is not a micro-sim. Is it possible to order a new sim but keep the old phone number?

Sounds like a major camera upgrade.

Who wants to buy my Nexus 4?

While the back is no sexy glass, I don't think it looks all that bad. The leaked pics I thought looked terrible but the official promo shots make it look pretty decent.

Phone noob here. My network (Koodo, Canada) supports "HSPA+/LTE." If I bought this phone would I get high speed downloads?

Right now using the internet over 3G (IIRC?) isn't all that fast. Heck I have 1GB in my plan but probably only use less than 10% of that. Thanks.

edit: My current phone is a Nexus S, would be a nice upgrade.

you need to know the bands it's operating on.

My provider's website says "4G (HSPA/LTE) frequency" is compatible. I'm having trouble tracking down the specific frequencies. Argh..

edit: Okay, found this:
"Koodo Mobile's CDMA and HSPA networks use the 800MHz and 1900MHz frequencies while their LTE network uses 1700/2100MHz (AWS)"

Thanks for the help.

i'm not totally certain on this but you might not get LTE with the AWS bands.

no worries. i hope i'm wrong haha.

Hmm that $50 does make a difference. It's expensive enough that I think I'd rather just pay the extra for one of the mega screen phablets.

How does this phone compare to an HTC One? Also, is it going to be compatible with AT&T?

Yes it will work with AT&T.

HTC One is a great phone. How Nexus 5 will stack up specs and performance wise, I'll just let an Android-Gaf poster more equipped to answer that tackle that question. But I think it may have been answered earlier in this thread. I think HTC One may have the advantage in build quality if you care about that, although Nexus 5 looks sexy (at least to me).
