Well, I do kinda mean it for most of the characters. As Anth0ny noted it really does, at times, look like Brawl HD, with stylistic changes (brighter colour palette, reduced realistic texturing). The texture resolution is higher (and thus cleaner), and the poly count has been upped, it's just a bit diminishing returns at times. Some of the models in Brawl looked so good as-is that you can only smooth a hat so far to the point where additional smoothing isn't very noticable. Like the knuckle ridges on Fox's goves; smoother and far higher poly than Brawl, but you're not going to notice that in average gameplay.

Smash 4's biggest leap is the lighting, which naturally improves the overall look of everything, along with the addition of bump/normal maps and other fluff to add complexity to models and environments.

But yeah, aiming for 1920x1080 @ 60fps isn't going to give the team a lot of technical wiggle room in making the game look truly leaps and bounds ahead of Brawl. Resolution aside, of course.

I think it also has to do with Brawl's models holding up extremely well for the hardware it was on. The artstyle also helps hide the age. I still think Smash 4 is a pretty good improvement, but I will agree that there are less visual changes than meets the eye. Nothing like going from Melee to Brawl, if we're talking artstyle.

So as someone who hasn't kept up with Pokemon, what kind of character are we talking about here?

That's Xerneas in the background, which is a legendary from X. Don't see that being playable, so this is either a stage(not sure on the background matching with any we know of) or showing Pokeballs off.

One of the box legendaries - like, 20-foot-tall-quadripedal-no-real-chance-as-a-playable-character-style.

I'm thinking it'll be the same role as Dialga/Palkia but dammit Sakurai why are you so good at this!

Legendaries aren't pokeballed normally are they? Thought they were stage hazards in spear pillar
Wasn't nearly every legendary in the series up until that point a pokeball in Melee? I think it's fairly common actually.

I'd love another Poke Floats-styled stage though, no clue why the comparatively dull Pokemon Stadium was the Melee stage brought back in Brawl.

I think so other than Rayquaza and the later Diamond/Pearl legendaries off the top of my head.

Wait the golems from Ruby/Sapphire weren't either.

Edit: Talking up to Brawl.
