Can we make "first post nailed it", "dat first post", "first post wins" or any other variation a bannable offense?

That's the nice thing about Reddit's upvotes system. I don't have to see 50 posts of the same thing. I guess I'm okay with one or two people talking about a "nice" first post but when we have an entire page of those posts it's idiotic. Same with big fancy game OT's. I hate when the first 10 pages or so have nothing to do with the game. Like the MGS4 one.

I've always hated the "bought [system], what games should I get" threads. Why did you buy an entire system without doing research?

You already got the games you wanted most, and want to know if there was anything you missed?

That's fair. I understand that the person is just excited about their purchase and wants to join the club. But at the same time, I do agree that they are largely unnecessary. Unless you just make arbitrary purchasing decisions, it's extremely likely that you already had one or more games specifically in mind when you bought the console. Maybe play those first before unnecessarily accumulating a library of titles?

But again, I will state that I understand why people make those threads. As such, I don't want to come across as too critical.

I know I'm guilty of this but only cause I wanted the hidden gems and I actually made lists that I took with me when I hit up the old game shop.
"What do we know"

"What do we know at this point"

People coming in like they're a doctor at a crash scene.

Threads = Crime Scenes stro.

Gotta do them recaps every 5 minutes.

Sometimes you buy a system for a few exclusives that interest you, and those threads are more like "tell me about some obscure classics I may not know about."

At the very least, at least you know some threads in OT are half-decent.

You gaming is already shit because of goons.

I used to hate "bu bu but ..." posts but thankfully it isn't used often anymore. Trying to make a potential counter argument look bad before it is even given is just a poor way to prevent decent discussion.

I absolutely hate the lemming trends, dat, salty, first post, megaton, etc. It would be ok if it were the occasional use, but half the people in any given thread follow the same formula of overused memes it's highly annoying. The other thing I can't stand is the over the top melodrama from many posters. Every time someone says or does something they don't agree with it's the worst thing to ever happen and the people involved are the biggest pieces of shit to ever walk the earth. I worry about the sanity of people who get that worked up about anything and everything.

Posters who don't read the whole threads and instead espouse the same old argument that had settled before are annoying too, almost as bad as drive-by posters.

I honestly wonder if people enjoy using internet personas. Rather than encouraging discussing it ends up stifling them because of their celebrity status.

I find it particularly annoying in animal threads discussing animal rights when someone comes in and makes a comment saying you're not allowed to be against this if you do this crap.

Bu but bu-

Pretending certain games don't exist.

"Man, DMC is awesome I wonder why they skipped 2 and went straight to 3."

"I'm surprised they never made a 3rd Max Payne."

It's never been funny.

When people try to be way too nice over the internet. It isn't very common, but I occasionally see it on YouTube among a bunch of hateful comments. They probably do that just to stand out, but it's just so unnatural.

@_@

What's wrong with people trying to be nice?

I'll offer also that in some cases these threads, while perhaps poorly phrased, are created by those simply looking for insight into what games one should purchase that aren't immediately obvious. For example, the Uncharted games are often a clear answer to the question of, "I've bought a PS3; what should I buy?", but the OP may instead be looking for the likes of Journey or Vanquish.

Gaming side gets so weird and strung out over EVERYTHING that it's easier to avoid it completely and get an update in an unrelated community thread.

Yeah it's way too heated over there.

Stepping into a thread is like stepping into a pit of snakes

Tons of articles all over the internet and tons of prior threads here asking about just that, though. Maybe it's just the way that it's being asked that bugs me, or that it's so lazy.

"bruh", "brah", "bro". I find this type of dudebro slang really annoying, and almost patronizing, even when not directed at me.

Glad I got that off my chest, as there are very few things that annoy me on this forum.

-Signing your posts. Pimpwerx and Franck piss me off with this.
-People who bail on a topic after a shitty drive by post.
-People who bail on a topic after being called out on posting something fucking stupid
-Selectively replying to posts
-Not replying to PMs
-PopGAF
-Bandwagon fans
-Tabris

I could go on and on.

how overly poltically correct the vibe seems to be and some people just can't wait to rat others out, or like passively aggressively point out that he should technically be banned for something he/she said.

Some people completely change their patterns of speech when they stop talking about sharp knees, podcasts, or Batman and they start talking about hip hop. All of a sudden everything is breh, stan, etc. Annoys the fuck out of me.

Drive by posts. Bonus points when they are written along the lines of "I'll just leave this here".

Yup. Sometimes after I draft a post, I realize that I don't actually want to be involved in the probable ensuing discussion, so I cancel my post. If I can't be bothered to continue engaging, my opinion probably isn't worth much to the discussion.

I hate the phrase "feels good man". I don't know why I dislike it; maybe because we don't use it where I'm from. Of course I don't dislike the people who use it, just the phrase itself.

That's the way I like it. Those gypsy snakes, they bite my feet.

I remember when I was alone for not being head over heels in love with RE4.

All day.

They amuse and kind of annoy me but stuff that's like "hey gaf what do."

I'm waiting for the inevitable "I have a splinter, how do I deal with it gaf" or "I've been stabbed gaf, what's the number for 911."

People who do absolutely no research at all. Like none. Motherfucker, you're on the INTERNET. Google is a click or two away. Look it up first and if you're still lost and confused, then ask us. It's not just GAF but everyone online. For fuck's sake people...Do your own research first.

You literally have a digital archive of nearly every single piece of information of our species at your finger tips, and yet you're too fucking lazy to google when goddamn Call of Duty Ghosts comes out or when mayonnaise was invented.

It's rare but there are people who say they're 'screaming' when they find something funny. Like, "I'm screaming at this post." Pisses me off for some reason.

Same with '#dead'. Fine on Facebook or whatever but it looks pretty dumb on a forum, especially when they quote a massive post.

on topic:
People saying /thread

People who say salt, it's become some meme that is the equivalent of 'u mad', used to wave away an opinion or post without adressing it and totally counter productive to any discussion
While U mad is banned for this reason, salt isn't

When someone is expected to give a positive opinion alongside a negative one about something (or the other way around) to 'balance' things out and not hurt any feelings, to not be automatically dismissed as biased.
It's a peer pressure thing that people give in to way too often

pet peeves are : 'dat' , 'son' and people who champion a brand in their avatar.

-Rudeness at difference in opinion and the inability to comprehend that someone does.
-Rude behavior when someone is incorrect about something. As in, they are treated like a complete idiot for being incorrect and not perfect.
-Imposing one's viewpoint on another and not only ganging up on them when they don't agree, but no attempt at understanding or compromising to make the situation resolved. I noticed some people get rather defensive at first, which makes the other person defensive, which then makes nothing happen but arguing.
-Quoting "Hometown" and "Life" stuff when any female character, regardless of the type of game it is, is shown in the thread.
