New Ryse: Son of Rome story trailer [new footage]

I think the model with the gold galea is more impressive than the main character. His skin textures are probably the best I've seen in a game.

In old threads, when we only had a screen in rain, many people were saying those models arent even comparable :)

Off topic, but 900p doesn't seem a big deal in the slightest.. I'd like more next gen games to make this small sacrifice, on the Xbox one as well as PS4.

I am a little worried the game will suffer from some screen-tearing during gameplay since it was so strong in the one beach scene. Cryengine suffers from technical problems on consoles. Sure, Xbox One is more powerful, but this is Crytek. They like to bring a system to its knees. Even if that means some frame-rate hiccups and screen tearing.

i asked also again yesterday..

does anybody know if crytek are licensing their new xbone engine to other teams?
and do we know any team using it yet?

why? I think the animations are top notch.
He probably means the animation transistions during combat, they've looked quite janky in the previous gameplay footage shown. That's all been from older builds though, given the leap in polish seen in this trailer, it wouldn't surprise me if the animation transitions have seen a similar leap.

Nice looking trailer...but its just that..a trailer. Want to see some more actual gameplay . From what I've seen until now the gameplay is very underwhelming tbh.

Its unusual to get something at launch that looks impossible on last gen hardware but this looks truly next gen, keeping my order as if nothing else this will be a visual showcase for my new console.

Holy hell, how are they pulling off this wizardry? This game looks amazing.

And you're telling me the graphics... those very graphics I'm seeing in the images and gifs, will be exactly what I see IN-GAME? While I'm actually moving around controlling the character? That same level of IQ? All at a stable 30fps? Are you freakin' kidding me? Whoa.

I still find it hard to believe, mostly because of my distrust of Microsoft after the last few months. I'm half-expecting the game to arrive, only to be a fair bit less impressive visually than what I'm seeing. I'm trying not to get too excited before I see the game in person, but obviously that's not working out. Do we know what form of aa they're using? Because this game looks clean as all sparkling hell even at 900p.

I think they were only janky in MP videos played by the public. Which was very pronunced with people just quickly smashing buttons.

There was a problem with the animations in MP too when they were missing some frames, but it got sorted out since the EGX build.

My concern now is how the combat evolves during the campaign, and weapon/enemies variety.

edit: just watched the combat trailer again, and yes, the animations were missing some frames in SP too. Looks more smooth in the new trailer.

It's Crytek's CryEngine. It can be used by any devs that wants to license it.
i saw a documentary video, way before the latest footage, where from what i understood they redid a lot of stuff in their engine for xbone.

i was specifically talking about xbone and if other games are in design that would use this specific one, if its available yet.

Me and a couple friend are up to the opinion that Crytek is trying to position themselves as this generation's Epic.

Wishmaster: Going by those shots....Dark Sorcer clearly looks more impressive than Ryse in terms of character modelling...I mean characters in it are made of a million polygons. It is not even close in motion....Having played Beyond, I doubt there will any difference between gameplay and cutscene visuals either. Ryse cutscenes still look stunning, but in motion I find the difference pretty pronounced. The range of expressions exhibited in the DS demo are also more varied.

It's also a tech demo.....

1,000,000 is really a waste, I see games surpassing it with a 1/4 or less the polygons.

Well, yeah, obviously they will cut down. I don't see many games surpassing QD in that aspect though. Beyond has hands down the best character models in current gen games.

Call me crazy but I don't care about which has the higher polygon count. If art was all about numbers then yes the wizard tech demo wins but to me ryse looks better. Call me nuts, but that is how I feel.

i would move this to the next logical step, since its very fucking obvious that microsoft has put their ponies behind them too.
thats the reason i was asking about other teams already using this.

but we will still have to wait and see the inevitable debut of epic into this gen. havent seen their new flagship yet, or have we?
only some tech demos.

Combat Impressions from Multiplayer Demo by KoalaBackfist

Ryse. Boy oh boy! This game had my attention from the start but I wasn't 100% sold on the combat, I had my doubts like most people. I'm happy to say that my time with it sold me. I'm definitely picking this up. I had a go at it 5 times, it was the arena horde mode where you survive wave after wave of increasingly difficult dudes. I sucked ass my first play through while I tried to figure out which button deflected dudes. I had it down pretty well my 3rd time around. Every time I got hit was my own fault. It played very much like Batman, if you time your block/counters right you can get into a dope-ass flow. One nice thing about it is that when you engage a block/counter, it will interrupt whatever you're doing, even if you're mid-air pulling a dope ass sword lounge. I made it to the final wave on my fourth play through but they got the best of me. With the help of a staff member cheering me on and showing me how to use my special ability I passed the arena mode. I saw a lot of the same finishing moves but it was an old build, or so I was told. Needless to say, I'm stoked about Ryse. It really surprised me.

Well it's not a surprise considering they make movie games.

It's just CryEngine optimized for Xbox One's architecture by Crytek so their game Ryse will perform its best, as will CryEngine. If a dev licenses CryEngine, they'll get Xbox One optimizations with it if they're making an Xbox One game. Not sure about any studious outside Crytek making a next-gen game with it, but I know Crytek has Homefront 2 coming using it. Ubisoft will probably use it for Far Cry 4.

The next Fable and the game from Black Tusk are apparently Unreal Engine 4.

Well for one Deep Down looks nothing like its Tech Demo. So I don't see why anyone would even compare it to Ryse.

It's also F2P so I don't expect it to get as much work done on it to match those visuals as a $60 title would. I think it was really disingenuous to show off that tech demo like it was the real game all they managed to do was make the real game look worse.

It's also the thing I hated about Ubisoft's presentation at E3, show a CG trailer and than show the game for every single game making it look worse.......

I have a feeling that this game itself is literally going to play out like a real life gladiator story that begins with tragedy
(E3)
continues on with brutal trials
(the internet)
and finally Ryses against all odds
(so called underpowered XB1)
victorious.

At least this is how I feel at the moment and what I am hoping happens, however, I do happen to be listening to Trivium while reading this thread so it may just be that...

I can think of at least three that match it or best it, especially in the textures department, but I don't want to go down that route. Just feel like those who honestly think this looks CGI quality or beyond the realm of real time just haven't been paying attention. The only next gen footage we've seen that looks actually CG are The Sorcerer and Deep Down tech demo's.

With a important difference: The Sourcerer is a tech demo, this [Ryse] is a complete game, which in my opinion is more impressive after all.

This is all I got on that.

runs at 1600x900 for best perf&res,we apply our upscaler for AA, framebuffer native 1080p.SAME as E3 XboxOne! No change,No compromise!

Not sure what he means by apply our upscaler for AA though.

And with regards to the in-game part.

To those who asked: Yes, our new Story Trailer is 100% in-engine, in-game footage on #XboxOne ! Watch it again here: http://bit.ly/19WuvOk

Both of those *tech demos look good(even though one got noticeably downgraded) but they still have that videogame look to them. Ryse looks different, just can't put my finger on it.

Man, all these look stunning. I can't wait to see what QD pull off on the PS4 considering what they've achieved on the PS3 with Beyond.

Although I gotta say the skin looks more impressive(realistic?) looking in RYSE than that tech demo.

I mean the pores look great but he almost looks like a mannequin against the RYSE skin shaders.

I hope for this sites sake, they are the same. Can you imagine the thread if it isn't? lol

I don't even know why anyone is even questioning it, we have video evidence that transitions between cutscenes and gameplay show no difference. We also have quotes from the devs specifically calling out other games that enhance graphics in cutscenes and how they aren't doing it.

This is why they chose to go 900p to push graphics like this at launch.

People have seen examples of this before, developers and companies lie man all the time. Not saying this is the case because from what it looks like to me, the game looks amazing, but I don't think it's something these consoles shouldn't be able to handle. In my opinion it's gonna look just like this, but you already saw people questioning the cutscenes and gameplay already just in this trailer. It's gonna happen when the game releases it's inevitable, hopefully they don't give anyone any fuel to add to that fire.

Well people are questioning it because of how good it looks but at the same time they are forgetting that Crytek lowered the polygons and went with 900p to do this.

It doesn't matter, do you actually think that when this game releases there will not be comparisons made from this trailer and what's seen in game. It's gonna happen for all these next-gen games, it's bad now with all the comparisons, it will possibly get even worse when they release. I wish people would just enjoy games and not nitpick so much, but that's not gonna happen lol

Dude this is the internet, nitpicking and comparisons come with the territory but what really matters is how this really ends up looking(and playing) when it's out.

The problem with the nitpicking is that it seems so fake in light of the evidence. It mostly seems like an attempt to frustrate or antagonize. Not saying anyone here is though...

edit:

Also wanted to say that previously I was a little down on the upscaling but in light of seeing more of ryse I am starting to not care really at all.

i asked also again yesterday..

Of course. There are many games on cryengine. But not many that I can recall were AAA titles.

Here is their licensed dev showcase from earlier this year

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwS8SX4QH7g

In addition, we know that Timesplitters rewind for the PS4 will use cryengine. Not sure if any other next gen titles have been announced yet. Pretty sure there would be a few.

EDIT: Oops. Didn't realize you meant specifically for the xbox one. No, there haven't been other titles announced yet. But I'm sure there would be.

I think it's more like people are questioning if X1 can produce graphics at that level in a launch game, what happens in few years? *OMG it's not underpowered what will we do*

If this was shown on PS4 no one will question it. Just like PS360 times.

I think the modelling looks much better in the QD demo however, particularly for the rest of the bodies. Not surprising considering it is using 10 times the polies though.
