I think this was posted earlier, but posting it again. It can help people understand EV training and how to pass on IVs and stuff.

Anyone know where I can just read a bunch about breeding and ev and iv training in x/y? I want to get a little more in depth with this one since I'm really enjoying it.

Most of the things I've found are from older gens and I'm not sure what's new or relevant.

There are basic and simple explanations of EV training in the OP.

There is no such thing as IV training because the IVs are set in stone. IVs are pretty much a fixed set of values for each stat (HP, Atk, Def, and etc.) that can vary between 0-31 for each stat. The higher the value, the better the stat will be. These values are hidden and can only really be noticeable when a Pokemon is at a higher level. In post-game, there is a guy who will give you vague hints of the total value of the IVs and the best IVs you have.

What you can do is pass on the IVs you want to through breeding and if you continue breeding in what is called a chain, you can create a "perfect" Pokemon.

I'm sure someone else can explain this better. You can also try looking at the image above and see if it helps.

ugh forget Super Training. Boring as heck :(

Horde encounters you are my drug. 150 Speed EVs in less than 2 mins? I'm in.

Not even, you can max out at 252 EVs in 3 minutes. God bless based GF for horde battles.

Gotta think about the Horde battle slowdown.

nah just said less than 2 minutes to cover my bases

Where do you go for Wingull Hordes? I went to Route 12 but I get Mareep Hordes there too so that slows me down.

any repercussions to passing down the wrong IVs? i'm still not positive on how all of this works lol been trying to use serebii's iv calculator....kinda understanding it
If you switch your Pokémon out with the new ones before they pass down their IVs, the new eggs you hatch won't get the IVs you want.

EXAMPLE: I'm breeding for an Onix with high HP, ATK, DEF, SpD. My parent Onix has max ATK and SpA while my Ditto has max DEF and SpD. I breed them until I produce a baby Onix with max ATK, DEF, and SpD. I then switch out my Daycare Onix with my new baby, and change the Ditto with one who has max HP. I then breed those two until I get a new baby Onix who inherits the max HP from the Ditto, and the ATK, DEF, and SpD from the parent Onix. I now have an Onix who has the stats I want!

Does that help any?

I go to Route 15 for Murkrow hordes. They also give Speed EVs. Gotta face that murder yo.

Woah, that encounter in a certain second floor in Lumiose gave me quite the scare. Wtf?

Haha, it made me go "WTF" because I did not expect that. Though I only went there because someone said something will happen there.

Good grief, green Espeons are not attractive... shiny Umbreons all the way. :)

*brofist*

Go to lumiose station, and click the back of the second time table. :p

Shit, need to do this then.

Think I might switch to using my Master Ball on Zygarde, just to speed this process up. Articuno is my legendary bird and, as much as I love it aesthetically, I probably will never use it, so finding a decent nature isn't a big deal.

Fucking hell this Articuno just won't stop moving everywhere. This is one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had with a Pokémon game. Jesus.

At least Articuno is the last one I need to complete the set...

I am in the same boat here. So how do you know said pokemon has maxed IV in a stat? The guy in the pokecenter gives 2 ratings one for overall and then the stat. So confused lol.

So if I give a pokemon a power item + pokerus and have the exp share on they'll get all the additional EV's awarded by those conditions, correct?

So, before I spend anymore time on pokemon (110 hours clocked so far)

I just want someone to have a look at this, to let me know if i'm correct in how i'm supposed to breed IV pokemon?

now for this example say I don't have any 2 perfect IV dittos.

I'm trying to breed a 4 perfect IV scyther.

I have a male with perfect attack IV
female with perfect speed IV, and has the nature I want (Jolly)

now am I correct to assume, if I give the male destiny knot, and the female everstone, i should produce offsprings that will have
A: Jolly Nature
B: 5 of the parents IV's (given theres a total of 12)

so I need to keep breeding these two like this, until one of the offspring has both Speed and Attack IV?

then i repeat the process with that offspring, and another scyther who has say a perfect defence IV.

i give the original child the everstone
I give the new defence IV scyther destiny knot.

now eventually, I should produce a scyther with those 3 perfect IV's?

edit: well now as i wrote this a bost was made: i'll read through this now, thanks

That's right.

1, 2, 3 EVs + 4 from Power Item * 2 from Pokerus = 10, 12, 14 EVs

Exp Share not being a held item is such a godsend.

The guy in the Center will tell you all of the stats that you have maxed. If you have max in HP and DEF, he will mention both of those before saying that they couldn't get any higher.

You have the gist of it, yeah. It'd go faster if you have some Safari Ditto. They have two guaranteed max IVs. If you need some, I have them in my Safari. PM me with your code, and you can catch some there with the IVs you need.

Hey, I'm thinking of making a steel team.

Anyone know what my options would be for countering fire with the available Pokemon in X & Y?

Yeah I think the Mega stone guy in the Stone shop is the indicator if you have max style. If he sells his shit to you for 10k, you're good. You got teh style to impress the ladies. Or guys.

i only have three natures of dittos left to find. anybody wanna be a saint and help me out?

i need modest, sassy and timid and then i'm all done collecting dittos.

Wait, what's all this about?

Hordes have 5 of the same Poke or 4 + 1 (so like maybe 4 Bulbasaurs, 1 Pikachu just to set an example)

Pokerus and proper Power Item equipped gets you 10, 12 ,14 EVs depending on how much EVs the Pokemon gives.

So multiply that shit with 5 and you get 50 Speed EVs from a horde of 5 Wingulls (1 Speed EVs), 60 Attack EVs from a horde of 5 Weepinbells (2 Attack EVs).

Lead with a Pokemon that knows an AoE move like Surf or Earthquake. Be in the grass and use Sweet Scent. Have Exp Share on so you don't have to bother switching in the Pokemon that needs to be EV trained.
