Agree. Though honestly it seems hard to know how reliably people seek an accurate source of info when they want to know that. Almost all of my buddies play games at least a moderate amount and almost none of them read media. And if they do it's IGN
That's exactly what I'm saying. It's much more all the other things. This is an issue that is important to people on these boards no doubt, but there's no way that titanfall 720p is going to be a deal breaker for the vast vast majority of consumers, if it runs and plays well. The COD games have bern pretty ugly games for years now compared to what's possible on current gens systems.
I don't want to minimize it for people on GAF who care - it IS pretty fucking ridiculous that a 2013 500 dollar next gen system can't do 1080p standard. I'm just calling bluff on people ringing the XBO death knell on this basis.

Well, I was thinking lower resolution means they can add more effects or up the frame rate. Just like how things were this generation. People are crazy if they think that every PS4 game is going to be 1080p, especially titles that are 60fps.
BUT didn't I also read that they were targetting 1080p 60fps when Titanfall was revealed? I know that "targetting" something doesn't necessarily mean it will come to pass, but that does point to things not working out how the developers hoped.

But if Titanfall is truly 720p on XBO, and it's 720p on 360, and it's whatever you want it be on PC, who's going to buy an XBO for this game?
If people start saying "oh Titanfall looks great, I think I'll buy an XBO" to their friends, their more hardcore friends (even if it's only 1 friend) who have gone with Sony will give them the skinny and they'll say, "wait for the PS4 version or get it on PC or just get it on 360".
But those titans don't transform into tanks... and well dinosaurs win by default

I plan on buying TitanFall for the gameplay, not the 1080p.

It is also almost guaranteed to be locked 60 FPS smoothness, considering the developers and their comments on the game. A lot of their competition is not aiming for this level of fluidity.
Most people couldn't even tell that Ryse was being rendered at 900p until the twitter comments, not sure why so many people are blowing up over this. Devs could have done 1080p on every game last generation but decided that we would rather have eye candy over resolution bumps.

Slight correction.
More than double is slight?
What matters is, $499 + extras for a console that will likely have a majority of it's games running at 720p for it's life, while the other console will play 95% of the same games at a higher resolution and being cheaper.

You are paying $500 for new hardware that is running at resolutions of machines that are seven years old. It's 2013. For even shitty low-end, mid-range PC's, 720p is like low settings. I agree with you that gameplay is king, but for $500 I expect new hardware to out perform the hardware I have now.
I'm doubtful the 360 version will be 720p. Particularly when someone else is doing the port.
Nah... its real time its probably an improved/evolved version of Xenoblade battle system, so some attacks will have a cool down period. Judging by the first trailer, it seems that basic attacks are triggered (like in FPS or zelda). I guess will have to see.
Read between the lines. It's not the game that people are getting worked up on it's the fact we are in HD-2 generation and games might not even hit HD yet.....after 8 years.
edit: 60 FPS has always been more important to me but it is kind of annoying that we are still struggling with 1080

I don't think the majority opinion here is that Titanfall is now a bad game. It's just shocking that the game that has defined the next generation for so many people, can't even run in what many people consider "real" HD. 1080p should have been in minimum for this generation, not a lofty goal.
The reason is because this is the highest profile Xbone game, the one game that MS have trumpeted as proof of the performance of the Xbone. The fact that the game is running on the ancient Source engine and can only match current gen resolution is a huge red flag for the power of the console, with long term implication for multi-plats on the MS console.
Plus MS has been doing a massive PR push to claim the power difference between the Xbone and PS4 is minimal. Using all manor of dubious reasoning to back up their claims.

The uproar is not over an underlying belief that resolution is a reflection of gameplay, its an uproar over the fact that its looking like that even after 7 years and a completely new generation, at least one of the major game consoles is struggling to meet basic HD standards and it has implications on all players.

Well they should be combined so you can do parkour off the dinosaur so you can jump into your tank while it catches bullets that the dinosaur shoots at you simultaneously.

But seriously, do you remember when the PS3 launched? The $599? The chalkboard of what Sony game was going to save the PS3? Sony got raked through the coals as much as anyone else at the start of this gen. It's not Sony trolls. It's fucking bewilderment that MS has fucked up this launch so bad.
If MS fucked up on this then bad on them. They will reap the whirlwind. However, I have not seen confirmations for anything of these 720p threads but it seems like the majority of the community has already cashed their chips. Whatever happened to being absolutely sure about something before taking the plunge?
A weaker XBO does matter to Sony trolls. It means games are being held back already and it's only year 1. With both consoles expected to sustain game design parity, it's alarming to me. It also affects PC trolls as now console ports to PC are being held back from a base design standpoint already.

Probably. Most people are not conditioned to stick to a brand where they're forced to make a choice and adjust their standards because they're incapable of making a decision without their favorite company doing it for them.
Then buy a PS4.
