This thread is for open, spoiler-filled discussion of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies. If you haven't played yet and don't want to wind up like Athena:

You should probably go to a different thread, like the nice shiny spoiler-free OT.

One caveat for those of us who played the Japanese version: no spoilers for the DLC case, Turnabout Reclaimed, until its English release.

Honestly? Because there's more blood than the past games. That's it. I just liked the title and it matches the other thread.

I wonder if it would have gotten a lesser rating if they colored the blood differently.

Metis? Hmm. Fits the Greek name theme they started with Athena and Apollo, but did they get rid of all the space theme names? I loved the idea of Apollo the Sun being best friends with "blue earth" Aoi.

Also I'm peeking in on streams for this while I'm at work and I'm amazed that the highest viewed stream has a player cam PLACED RIGHT OVER THE TEXT WINDOW! What the hell's the matter with some people?

Space Center director: Yuri Cosmos

Apollo's best friend: Clay Terran (so there's the earth theme)

Space captain: Solomon Starbuck

Stuck on Case 2. Currently cross-examination Fulbright and well...
I can't seem to get what to present at the correct statement

This entire case centers on on...blah blah blah

The Destructoid review mentions that a character has hints at a same-sex attraction? I can't think of a character who matches that description. Uwasa? (The girl in the cardboard box from case 3)

What was Ted's ID in the English version? I'm referring to how it had to be able to transform into SINOBU in the Japanese version.

Aura/Kaguya would be my guess. She talks about how she wanted Metis/Mari to be more than a mentor/coworker at one point, if memory serves.

Also sorry to keep bugging you for English names, Jason, but what are the names of cases 4 and 5? Unofficial translations were "Turnabout up to the Stars" and "Turnabout to the Future".

WOODS is the name "apollo wrote" so it's

something like that

I'm rather surprised at the negative reactions to Fulbright in the OT. His over the top reactions, his "JUSTIIIICE" battlecry, and his goofy theme gave me serious flashbacks to Mega Man Legends, especially Teisel. Every time that theme played it gave me the visual of him dancing into the scene like an Austin Powers opening while everyone else is deadpan.

Still, it just makes me more anxious as to how they'll feel about him down the road. Fufufu...

Yeah it's not going to be as interesting if you didn't enjoy his company in the first place.

The posts predicting his return in the next game are making me smirk.

Yeah, Aura/Metis is the same-sex connection. I don't remember exactly what Aura says, but she makes it very clear that she had a thing for Metis.

Ep 4: The Cosmic Turnabout

Ep 5: Turnabout for Tomorrow

In retrospect, it's weird that those two are broken up - they're basically one big case. I guess technically there are two different trials, but it feels more like ep 4 is day 1 and ep 5 is day 2.

I noticed that too. I think they were intended to be one huge finale and the DLC case was part of the main game, but was removed because Capcom wants that green and, despite being awesome, it doesn't exactly move the plot forward. 'Course after removing it, it'd look bad to have 5 cases for the previous two games and then downgrade to 4 in this, so 5-5 was split in twain to compensate.

I'm definitely interested in this. I've only played one other game in the series (Justice for all I believe), I really enjoyed it.

Cool, thanks!

Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is with 5-4 and 5-5. I know the DLC was developed alongside the main game, so I guess it's possible Magnet_Man's hit the nail on the head, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me if the DLC was designed to be DLC from the beginning.

Incidentally, I wish they'd put out the DLC case day one, since it's a great 'filler' case and I'm really curious as to how playing it between cases 2 and 3 would go.

These OT posts are amazing.

People also hate Fulbright? He's fucking awesome. I loved how he exercised his authority on the prosecutor at the end of the first day, he's like Gumshoe with an extra pair of balls. This has to be a first for Ace Attorney, Criminal Affairs Dept. finally getting worthy representation!

It looks like people are starting to get to case three and Newman's reveal, which is... yeah, back when I played the JP version I knew instantly it was going to be trouble. Was hoping the localization team could smooth it over but I guess there's only so much they could do.

Cool, thanks!

Does the DLC connect to the plot of the main game at all or is it 100% filler?

It sets up a few small things later (eg. it's Phoenix's first face-off with Blackquill, sets up the Magatama, etc.) but there's no connection to the overarching plot. Still a damn good case.

So I finished the game at like 5 in the morning. Damn, I forgot how much sleep these games make me lose!

Anyways, yeah I can't wait to see the rest of neogaf to react the Phantom reveal. I'm never gonna be able to look at Fulbright's zaniness the same away again on new play throughs, that's for sure!

I'll make some more posts later, still gotta collect my thoughts about this game.

I was so stunned. For a couple of minutes all I could think was "He was faking everything. All his exaggerated animations... he was faking all of them!" That Mood Matrix you use on him where he wasn't feeling a speck of emotion kind of disturbed me.

One really cool thing I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me: he has an exaggerated animation for each of the four emotions. The big laugh/grin for happy, the hands-up-mouth-open for surprised, the waterworks for sad, and the clenched-fist/clenched-jaw for angry.

That and you probably fell asleep during playing it which would explain the 30 hours of game time (that or it actually has 30 hours of game time which is very impressive)

Guys reassure me, I can't be the only one that feared they would reveal Athena was a robot or something? There were quite a lot of things inadvertently hinting at that in the last case and I was praying the wouldn't dare.
And those headphones didn't help

Phantom fooled me so much, especially since I was constantly trying to deduce who it was and in the end it was the only one I always took for granted. Talk about one hell of a turnabout.
My biggest issue otherwise was the jury system not mentioned. Felt lazy or too conservative to not use it at all.

I liked Fulbright because his ridiculous reactions made him the most animated character of the cast, but now they really creep me out now that I know why they're so ridiculous.

He has no idea what a normal reaction is.

And like I said in the previous spoiler thread, all of his different masks meant he was ready to kill any one of your characters at any time and take their place. The entire game, you look at him and you're either enjoying his antics or annoyed by them, but when he looks at you he's thinking of places to hide the body.

Thanks! That sounds like DLC-appropriate stuff to throw in, and if it's a good case on its own then all the better.

I thought for sure that the MASON System would show up in the last case again somehow -- with all the talk about events from seven years ago -- but I don't think I ever even saw it mentioned in the game. That definitely struck me as odd, considering how important it was in AJ:AA.

I ended up guessing the Phantom's identity as soon as they mentioned a spy. (AAI2-related spoiler)
I chalk it up to having recently finished AAI2 and having a heightened suspicion of new, friendly supporting characters that appear in every case for whatever reason.
Because I didn't play the demo, the biggest shock in the game for me was seeing Pearl and Edgeworth return; I was happy to see major characters from the original trilogy get more than a passing reference. I found myself missing the old Edgeworth voice a lot, though.

Hmm, not many returning characters at all (all of them are main characters, no sides like Oldbags/Will Powers).

I liked the hint at Maya showing up the next game.

I think they handled the marriage of old + new skillfully.

Have to agree, and I did think (especially with the Investigations games) they had a bit too much fun having prior character cameos. And I did feel Edgeworth and Pearly showing up was appropriate here, and didn't overstay their welcome.

And yeah I was kinda disappointed we never saw the Phantom's actual face. :( I guess it doesn't matter but it would have been satisfying.

I don't know, I felt Edgeworth and Pearl felt thrown in at the last minute just to include said characters. Plus that scene were he just drives to the scene in his red sports car is just ridiculous.

Really missed Gumshoe throughout the game, I know old bud was the villain and needed a place to be a setup, but I didn't really enjoy his police character.

Overall I enjoyed the school case and the final case (as in both the space centre episodes), but the game didn't really click to me much compared to the others and the space centre episode in general just seemed odd.

Plus they really need to work on characterisation when your playing as the character, I felt regardless of whoever I was playing as they all seemed to project the same image, it wasn't until they were on the sidelines in whatever fashion that they seemed to have a bit of character and personality.

Watching people react to Fulbright in the other thread is amazing, but it's so hard to keep my mouth shut.

Also the cover of the Official Visual Book is hilarious because he's just on there being goofy.

My initial reaction was "GET OUTTA HERE."

I think not showing Phantom's real face was a wise decision. It didn't matter, and there was nothing to be gained from it. If anything, it'd take away from the idea that he simply doesn't exist as a person anymore.

I do agree yeah.

Also it's hard for me to grasp that Pearls is one year older than Trucy.
