He's claiming all these PS4 versions being shown has nothing to do with the XB1 versions being inferior.
Who to believe? Gies, or some of the developers who have straight up admitted the PS4 version of their game is better?
and for good reason. Gies is easily the most bias member of the gaming press I've come across. Not necessarily saying his reviews aren't to be trusted, but he's on the Rebel FM podcast weekly, and ooooh boy, you should hear the shit he slings.

Man, I really am getting tired of the secrecy, double-talk, and attention whoring from this industry. Getting simple information like resolution is like pulling teeth. Then you got game journos scared stiff to confirm anything for fear of getting blacklisted. The best we get from them are teases and hints on Twitter.
Not if the console/games are already shipped obviously, people might not be inclined to go through the hassle of returning them when a shiny new box is standing on their table, also a ton of potential buyers don't follow the gaming sites that closely and if anything turns out really wrong it'll need a certain time to become really big news anyway.
Are you playing dumb here? Even if this means only a single more console sold it's a win in Microsoft's book.

That's the obvious conclusion to draw, and you would think it's because of platform differences, but then Gies tells you it's something more stupid than that. So really I have no clue.
Eh, he was pretty weird during the SimCity fiasco.
I like Arthur but it seems like 75% of the time he's cryptic/snarky about everything and I can see why it rubs people the wrong way.

That is it? I mostly agreed with him on SimCity. Fantastic game, loved the approach to simulation, after a few days had no problems with it and played it close to 100 hours...

This was my thought as well.
People here love to crap on Arthur and polygon. Why? You disagree with opinions? I've had a lot of great interactions on that site where drive by's and meme's seem to occur far less than here. In addition, the commenting structure at Vox pretty much dominates this forums ancient tech. Here, when some idiot says something stupid we get 10 people quoting that person in separate posts all calling them idiots. Their, the point only needs to be made once because the reply is embedded. In summary, hating Arthur and Polygon probably says more about you thann them.

He says it's to be 'transparent' with the Polygon audience, but it does the complete opposite.

I dislike his general attitude in discussions and toward most things, he does not sound like a person I would enjoy having a discussion with (I'm getting this impressions from listening to many episodes of Rebel FM, I used to love it for Tyler Barber & Matt Chandro..whatever. Stopped listening after it became the Arthur & Anthony show.)
Also, for me, it's mostly his penchant for saying things and not backing them up.

He used to post a lot on gaf back when ps4/x1 were in speculation and championed X1 with "secret sauce." He earned a lot of hate and he still uses the same "I know something, but I won't say it" shtick he has going on from then till now.

He published a review for SimCity early knowing that he was putting out inaccurate information on the game. He pushed out a 9.0 review that would satisfy EA Metacritic requirements and then later modified the score when the online game did not work.
He pushed out an early review that treated the online DRM component of the game as a non-issue. His priorities were not with the readers that day. He very dismissive of those that criticized his philosophies and how it was impacting his decisions as Reviews Editor for Polygon.
His behavior and response to every controversial issue has been siding with the publishers or Microsoft.
He has a history of spending RebelFM donation money that largely came from NeoGAF after the closure of 1UP on an expensive gaming laptop. He was never on 1UPFM. He was just a roommate or someone that tagged along with the other members of the crew. The other members of the show very quickly left RebelFM and Arthur was left to run a show with donations that were never intended for him.
I think his surly attitude can also be a factor that contributed to the dislike he receives here. He is known to brag about having inside information that has largely been proven false. I believe it is a matter of him clinging to his console allegiances. I believe he referred to The Last of Us as something that was irrelevant or not a big franchise. He works for a site that does not allow reviewers to pick scores, but rather a panel of editors including him decipher what the score is based on their subjective interpretation of the printed text.
I think that sums up some of the skepticism and dislike of Arthur Gies and his opinions. There has been a largely combative relationship between Arthur and gaming fans for a while.
On topic, I think Arthur is just trying to put out this information, because he does not want there to be controversy and speculation when the PS4 preview/review goes up without Xbox One impressions. It seems like an honest move.

Do yourself a favor and read up on the debacle. it was a sad event for gaming journalism and how business is done in the industry.
The fact Arthur Gies still even has a job is among the biggest lack of respect this industry has for gamers and its costumers.

holy shit this guy.. he loves responding to people guessing in his little game.
He's been aggressively and demonstrably wrong on more than one occasion citing his insider knowledge or using the appeal to power that the developers know than more us until he's shown to be just a loudmouth blowhard then moves on (or doubles down on the stupid inaccuracies his spitting) as though he didn't just put his foot in his mouth (again).

Nice rant, I am 100 % with you. I have not ordered 1 next gen game until I can see actual proper gameplay on retail units....
all the bulshots and equivalent PC / dev spec stuff is.......grrrr...
