Halo 2 made me want to get a 360 Halo 4 makes me think I can pass on Xbone

That is certainly odd given how poorly the original xbox sold.

Please, you know how many stoners and d-bags bought a copy of H2? There were even people who kept the disc in their console 24/7. I'd love see how many gaming hours some of them had on H2 alone versus anything else.

Love how you generalize. I know tons of people who bought, and played Halo 2 religiously and I wouldn't classify them as "stoners and d-bags".

Halo 4's campaign is pretty good, save for the dogs with binary rifles and Prometheans being nothing more than damage sponges. It makes me sad that it'll be a while before I'll get to play the next one, because I sure as hell won't be buying an Xbone when it's still full-priced.
The Prometheans were not very good enemies, but worst of all there wasn't any variety to them. You had only three new enemies, yet two of them felt more like support for the third. The dogs were like a hybrid of grunts and buggers, and wound up just being annoying.

At least with the Covenant you have different vehicles to add variety. The Prometheans had... turrets?

Agreed, and now the same thing has happened with the Gears series now that most of the top brass at Epic are gone.

There's a lot of questions right now.

I thought Halo4 was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. I liked the Chief/Cortana plot. I hope in 5 you get cortana back with powers you can utilize as the Chief. This new game play mechanic could be used to put some strategy in the series.

That's why no one plays it. 20k [no lie lol] and it's not even a year old yet. Halo 2 had 300k or more at the same time frame and less of an install base.

I'd say it's more due to the fact that Halo 4 has a huge amount more competition than previous Halos. Especially Halo 2, how many console FPS games were around when Halo 2 came out? Halo 2 essentially started online console FPS.

Halo 2 had competition. Rainbow six, SOCOM 2,etc Halo 3 had even more.

Agreed. And it's safe to say that the launch of Halo 2 was a pretty big deal. The game had quite a bit to offer. Not saying it won't happen again, but I doubt it will recapture the same appeal it once had. The changes made to the game obviously pushed some gamers away. I stopped playing its mp after a few rounds of H4, so it's not like I'm dying to debate halo anymore than I would want to. Ghost is coming out too. Activision slowly but surely became the kings of fps mp.

Campaign wise I thought halo 4 was great. It not having any fucking flood levels alone gave it a few points over the mainline entries. I don't know why we had to suffer through such a boring ass enemy type for 3 games. Its like they did their best to turn the alien/zerg/zombie idea into the worst version of itself on purpose.

Halo 5 + XB1 pricedrop fall 2014.

I haven't played halo 3. I've played Halo CE, most of halo 2, halo3, and halo reach.

I've heard both positive and negative things about halo 4. Basically people said it was good for the studio's first attempt at a halo game. Which tells me that Halo 5 could be the game that blows the doors open again. Basically because it will be the second opportunity for that dev studio to make a Halo game, learning from the first game.

So I think Halo 5 could be pretty good. At least I am keeping an open mind towards it. I hope they approach the game's multiplayer as both a classic halo (weapons/powerups on the map) and as halo 4 (loadouts etc), with separate modes and perhaps even maps. I'd like that I think and I also think it would add more longevity to it if you like both modes.

Halo 4 was a lot of fun. It was overall a great game but is my least played halo. Probably because I have branched out to playing more than just multiplayer games. Campaign was really great. Very much enjoyed fighting the new enemies. The new weapons were fun as well. I didn't enjoy the randomization of the power weapon drops. I'm extremely excited for halo 5.

The franchise was still raw and exciting back then, in the years since it's been milked to death to the point where releases aren't even that special.

I agree.

Halo 4 is a lot more entertaining than Halo 2.
Now please tell me how many games did you play of Halo 2.

If it is more entertaining for you, ok. But Halo 4 is the worse Halo game of them 2. It is bad.

People who also brush off the population decline .. lol.

That actually feels correct.
Man Halo 3 release felt like a damn event of its own and everyone played it or bought a Xbox 360 for it in my circle of friends.

Halo 2's launch was also super big.

Everything after that felt like just a simple announcement that doesn't feel more special than the annually Call of Duty announcement.

I definitely feel that's a part of it.
I remember both the Halo 2 and Halo 3 launches were like actual events.
After those two everything else just felt like a regular game release. Which is probably more my personal opinion but still.

I think Halo 3 is the best, might not have had the best campaign but its multiplayer is still extremely solid even till this day

I have confidence in Halo 5. Halo 4 campaign was great from a story perspective, but the gameplay was literally go here and press a button. While that is mainly what Halo has been, none of the others had me actively thinking this while playing. It missed the 30 seconds of fun. I actually hate the multiplayer. The loadout system diverts too much than what Halo was originally about. Two people enter, the better person wins. The loadout system adds too much randomness, just like the weapon drops that occur randomly on the map. Having the weapons spawn on the map promotes true tactics and player skill to be able to control the map.

While I still enjoy the Halo series, I definitely agree with you here. Halo 3 was the last game in the series that felt as if it was going to have a significant impact. Every Halo game that came after, felt a bit "routine."

They need several new alien species in the next Halo, along with several new vehicle types. We've basically had ten years of fighting the Convenent. They're getting boring now.

They need to make the levels open ended again. No more linear Cod bullshit.

Halo 2 is one of the great disappointments of my gaming career. To me, it's resistance 2 to resistance - which if you know that series is a damning statement.

It took everything about what made the first game great and tried to "rethink" it. It's classic overwrought design. The expansive inspiring vistas and play areas became cramped as claustrophobic. The thumping sci fi weapons became much more military. The encounter design became much more basic. It veritably had bright spots but not latter how many times I try to replay it to give it another chance, i find more things problematic.

Meanwhile halo 1 I still consider to be one of the greatest and most important console games of all time.

It never ceases to amaze me how strongly Halo fans tend to disagree on which Halo's are good and bad. I... loved them all so far, each for different reasons. None of them ever managed to "ruin Halo" for me. I'm as excited about the potential of the next one as ever before.

Yes.

1193. Halo 2 was a damn fantastic game.

I've played 1497 games of Halo 3 (since Bungie.net stopped updating their stats) and 851 games of Reach. I'm up to 258 games on Halo 4. I haven't played as much this last year because I've been ridiculously busy.

I think it's fair to say that I've played a lot of Halo.

Each one has their ups and downs. Some have more than others, but the best one has a lot to do with what each individual wants out of their games. Some only care about the multiplayer so they judge solely on that while others prefer the single player experience. The lists are quite different for each side which is what makes an overall list so difficult to agree on.

Personally, I can't decide without making 2 lists. One for campaign and one for multi.

Campaign: CE, ODST, 3, 4, 2, Reach
Multiplayer: 2, CE, 3, 4, Reach, ODST

Why did you dislike the Reach campaign the most? I thought Reach had a fantastic campaign. Especially the ending.

A big part of what makes Halo campaigns interesting for me is the mystery that surrounds them. That "venturing into the unknown" and not knowing what is going to happen really drew me into the universe at first and kept me wanting more. The problem with Reach (at least on the story side) was that it was a prequel and I already knew what was going to happen. Not to mention that the missions themselves just felt boring to me. The encounters all felt like watered-down versions recycled from previous games. AAs took some of the challenge away from gun fights. It was the first Halo that I really didn't like any aspect of which was disappointing considering that it was Bungie's send-off from the franchise.

Halo 4's missions suffered from these same problems, but at least the story kept me interested so I gave it a plus over Reach.

If you took out the random power weapon drops I'd probably think Halo 4 was better. If you took out armor lock, I'd probably consider Reach to be my favorite entry. I probably played Halo 2 and 3 more online but think Bungie nailed both the gameplay and presentation with Reach.

As a long time Halo fan, following it's development on Mac up until my preordered xbox arrived in the mail With Halo CE and two Dukes, I have to say I really enjoyed Halo 4 and don't really get the hate. I'll also say I never played any Modern Warfare Multiplayer so any mp additions brought to Halo 4 were entirely new to me. I can understand why the MP faithfuls wouldn't love it as it was a new engine from a new dev and honestly there is going to be some subtle differences in the fundamental "feel" of the gameplay, but aside from all of that, I thought 343 did an awesome job.

The campaign was way better than Halo 2 imo and the in game art is probably the best the series has seen. Also imo.

I never followed closely, was Reach just a retelling of one of the novels?

Halo 1 > Halo 3 > Halo Reach > Halo 4 = Halo 2

Agreed 100%. I'm a huge Halo fan.. and I think I still am, but Halo 4 and the direction that 343 has treated the universe is deeply concerning. The original Halo is still magic, with Halo 3 being the best modern version of the series overall (ODST helps, too).

Halo 2 has the weakest campaign by far, along with multiplayer that broke up the combat trinity. It has the best maps of the series, but I just don't enjoy playing it anymore, especially when there are better alternatives. Halo 2 was revolutionary when it comes to console multiplayer, that's about all I can really say for it.

Halo 4 has a decent enough campaign if you're not invested in the series (that plot.. uhg), but the new enemies are boring, as are the weapons they introduced. Multiplayer is also the worst the series has seen, and the competitive scene is dead because of it. The community would rather go back to Halo 3 now that it's F2P then try and make Halo 4 work. That's frightening.

I don't like what I saw from the Halo teaser at E3 and my expectations are down in the dumps. It's really very sad because I love Halo, but man, Halo 4 really was that bad..

Personally, all of Halo's mutiplayer gets boring to me after a few months. I hate the supreme grinding you have to do to unlock things, especially permutations/armor pieces. I grew tired of that, and the maps while fun and serving their purpose, are visually boring to me aswell.

Just my personal opinion.

I enjoyed the crap out of all of the games single player however. Worth a play through several times, although 2's campaign was a big letdown for me.

The slack 4 gets from some people I think is overblown. It was a very very solid game, that rated really high and sold very well.

Halo 4 killed Halo. 343 wont redeem themselves with Halo 5. It's going to be in the same direction as Halo 5. Sadly, it will sell a shit ton of copies, but the online community will die within a few months like H4's did.

Halo went when Bungie did.

I agree with the Halo 2 statement. But it's the hardware decisions that have made me careless about the Xbox one. It appears as though a bunch of suits were making hardware decisions.

Halo 4 was not good. I concur with the OP, passing on the the XBone even though the 360 was my primary console this generation.

I've probably said it a thousand times now but Halo 2 is by far the best multiplayer game I've ever played, and probably will play. I've had so much fun as I played for countless hours every night. We even build a community of people who loved playing custom games and whatnot. Something that will never ever happen again in a current or next game game.
