It's pretty clear what Cboat and Bish are eluding to.

Not only will the multiplatform games be inferior on XB1, you may experience OS problems on top of that. Sounds like the XB1 was supposed to launch in 2014.
Not only that, but the last minute DRM decision probably screwed the entire engineering team over. No time to finish the main OS, because they need to remove the DRM first they spend years on implementing.

Isn't that supposed to be the job of a journalist ?
It's his job as a journalist to seek the truth and report it, to minimize harm, act independently, and to be accountable. These are the four tenets of journalism. GAF should be defending Jeremy from backlash and the gaming media at large owe him big time for doing what they don't have the balls to do. This is their moment to stand up and say enough to all the bullshit as a collective, but most of them are intent on being lapdogs for the major players.

I hope more join Jeremy and stop protecting deceptive practices by MS.

The taunt tweets made to Microsoft? That's not journalism.

Remember Adam Orth?
Had to look the name up, but I do remember the incident.

All the talk of 720p vs 1080p doesn't concern me but the issue of buying a console which could break down or have serious issues with it does, especially when I'll be paying upwards of £500 for the bundle I've pre ordered. Surely the right thing would be a nod or a wink if there is something seriously wrong with the hardware they are planning on releasing

you start seeing a difference on 40+inch tvs

35 inch or lower and there is literally no difference

I would argue strongly against that. I had a 32 inch 1080p LCD TV up until this year when I upgraded, and even at that size the difference between my PC rendering a game at 1080p vs the PS3/360 at 720 was absolutely clear as day.

Apple, Samsung or Google. Take your pick

Any of the above.

A monopoly in the console space is a horrible idea. Competition breeds improvements, i.e. the 360 this gen and the PS4 next gen.
Too much money in the video game industry for that to ever happen. When/if MS leaves someone else will step in to fill the void. The industry is too prone to power shifts for anyone to leave someone alone atop a very slippery sloped mountain for long.

Also, you act like Nintendo is non-existent. I'd argue that the Sony/MS arms race is what chased them away from being hardware competitive in the first place. Without MS the arms race would slow down, development costs would plateau, and Ninendo likely would step back into the void immediately as the first legitimate challenger to Sony. That opening might even make Nintendo get with the times in terms of network infrastructure and marketplace as they'd then have a legitimate chance at competing profitably in a two format war.

Sony v. Nintendo with a new comer other than MS and we've got ourselves a far healthier games industry. Microsoft have shit on consumer good will faster than any company I've ever seen and the 180s are all thinly veiled "for now" promises that make it incredibly clear the original plan is still the end goal here.

PS2 led to that clusterfuck because of Kutaragi.
BS. Sony became the most arrogant company, and everyone in the company acted like that. Search for Phil Harrison's and Jack Tretton comments about competition for example at the time. Kutaragi was behind PS1 and PS2 too. It's easy to blame one person for everything.

For the record, I consider the PS4 the best value buck for buck as far as next-gen consoles go. I do think it is sad MS cheaped out on hardware to upgrade Kinect. This wouldn't be a problem if they weren't bundling it in, but it's a marathon not a sprint-- maybe it'll work for them in the long run.
I don't get why people keep saying this. That would only make sense if Kinect cost more than $100 to produce and ship since the console is priced $100 more.

The price/performance situation Xbone sees itself in is due to the combination of poor hardware design decisions and the business decision to seek higher margins versus Sony.

Maybe this is why they removed the mandatory kinect use and upped the cpu and removed the mandatory OS use while gaming as MS must have been told by developers they cant freaking match multiplatform titles unless max resources are given to them. This probably will remove the ability to use kinect in some games and instant switching to OS. I am
Willing to bet the instant game to tv switching is gone too

I
Mean look at their ads they dont even mention tv or kinect anymore

Journos who say people can't notice 720p vs 1080p are just taking the piss. Even my gf can tell the difference and she doesn't give a shit about games. I wish people would stop spreading that bullshit.

I don't get it either. If 720p is good enough, why even bother upping the PS4 version to 1080p instead of putting that power elsewhere? If it's because they can't put development time into anything but 1080p, shouldn't they be mad that Xbox One is holding multi-platform games back?

He's also trolling with the 720p jokes all over twitter. Not very professional.

That's a separate issue. He is likely frustrated that he has to do this in the first place, and is aware of the consequences. But he had to do it, because it's the right thing to do. Not all of us have sold our souls to our corporate employers. You can still make a difference in this world as a journo by simply reporting the truth. Games are small potatoes compared to bigger issues in life, but it's a good gesture on his part.

I don't condone the trolling but it doesn't make what he did any less important. It's likely that the people he was trolling have disrespected him in a similar manner many times over. Asking a journalist to sit on information that would surely save consumers a lot of heartache is insulting enough.

I can't fucking believe that Microsoft

A: Let Sony get the drop on them with the 2013 release
B: Let Sony get the drop on them with the specs

They basically did what Sony did with the start of the PS3, but I don't know if they can turn it around. That took Sony -years-.

That February conference (& to a lesser extent the E3 one) are going to be the stuff of legend soon

For the first 4 years of the generation I played all my PS360 games on a SDTV. I dealt with a complete inability to read writing on my games for 4 years. I think I can deal with 720p.

Getting a PS4 not an Xbone.

Gaming journalism is in a pretty pathetic state of being right about now. I can't believe that reviewers who sign NDAs even exist. Agreeing not to talk about certain elements of the product you are reviewing defeats the entire purpose of an honest review and turns reviewers into nothing more than PR newswire pawns for the big corporations.

It's almost exactly like Sony. Even the 25% higher price point.
