You can fit much more on 1080 and 4k.

Does your employer give you a vision plan ?

yes! Thats why i ask my girlfriend to hold my tv 15 meters away from me when playing Gta5 so it looks crisp.

You need all that room for the kinect to work anyways

Or you could put the TV over your head. That way 4K = 1p.

Ha ha!! Sit far enough away from your TV that you don't notice the resolution anymore. Yeah that should work.

Is it 5 stages of denial/realization or 4?

Don't
listen to this man.
If you don't have enough space to sit farther, just sell your 60" plasma Panny and buy a 32" lcd Magnavox instead.

did I do good Sethos?

No way was that a lesser extent! E3 is where everything started getting real crazy.

Eh...the E3 thing was mostly about the DRM and such, no? That's a huge misstep, but I think the original conferences will be more important in the long run. Especially looking at the different points of focus for both.

OH, the price. YES that's very important too. In that case make em even :D

Even with 720p native, the content is all upscaled to 1080p, right? Obviously I'm not making an argument that upscaled > native, but doesn't a lot of this discussion depend on the (currently unknown as far as I'm aware) quality of the XO's upscaling capabilities?

They'd need to use the CLOUD to make up for the difference.
Seriously though, upscaling doesn't do shit for image quality. Besides native = pixelmapped = crisp

If both this and Ghosts being native 1080p on PS4 are true, I'll honestly be quite surprised. I absolutely did expect resolution differences, but not of a factor >2.

How they implement Kinect could negate any resolution issues since gameplay > graphics.
I'm being trolled here right? Because Kinect usually does more damage to gameplay than anything else.

Replacing a button with a voice command or physical leaning? Nothankyou.jpeg

I can't fucking believe that Microsoft

A: Let Sony get the drop on them with the 2013 release
B: Let Sony get the drop on them with the specs

They basically did what Sony did with the start of the PS3, but I don't know if they can turn it around. That took Sony -years-.

That February conference (& to a lesser extent the E3 one) are going to be the stuff of legend soon

I don't get it either. Although you can say that MS already changed their strategy during the 360's run. They were hell bent on Kinect and other features that had little to do with basic gaming. They tried to expand on something that made Nintendo so succesful with the Wii.

Sony are probably lucky that MS chose this path instead of going for raw power and core games. MS could've dropped Kinect and all that and just create a powerful gaming machine and Sony would've been in a bind right now.

But perhaps, when X1 was conceived, the call for motion controls etc was very huge still. MS thought next-gen would go this way. Sony's strategy ultimately paid off, they didn't go all in with its Move gimmick and initially lost to Kinect but today this doesn't matter at all as the consumers just seem to want a more 'regular' gaming experience again. But no one could foreseen this, what if todays Kinect would be as big as the Wii during its peak? Then Sony would've been fucked.

This video of BF4 at the current xbone tour even has a guy calling out GAF about the resolution

"Gaf, it's definitely not 1080p"

Whether it's a joke or not, i dunno? You guys have probably seen it already...

He states in the comments:

"Guys, all the TVs at these event were 720p ONLY. So I have no idea if the game will render at 1080p, 900p.... whatever."

Ok, maybe I'm just not getting this. Is the console outputting these games in 720p, or is the game running at 720p native with upscaling to 1080p? Pretty sure it's the latter, but a lot of these posts seem to be suggesting the former.

Ahhh that's a good point. The way Sony came out with "GAMES, GAMES, GAMES"!!! made it seem calculated.

I don't follow gaming news too closely (well now I am with resolution-gate). So what's the story? The February announcement was completely by surprise? No hints of it coming until the invites went out?

I hadn't been following much until after the Xbone reveal, but from what I understand, yeah, the whole February thing was a bit of a surprise, and apparently things had been a bit more quiet on the Sony front compared to MS in the rumor mill. I remember a Thuway post in particular where he mentioned that MS folks were banking on Sony sticking with 4GB of memory, so the other hardware differences wouldn't have ultimately mattered, and the upgrade to 8GB took them by surprise as well.

I'll see if I can go dig it up.

Ah, didn't notice...why would you have 720p only TV's at an event like this? I didn't even know they still did 720p only TV's? Weird.

They thought Sony's hardware was going to be weaker.

Most people did also since Sony has no money .
I think people need to remember that MS has a huge amount of cash but that does not equal the xbox division having it .
Add in suit making problems with the xbox division and here we are .

Same here. I think it says a lot about how mature and easy to use the dev environment is on PS4, on top of the added horsepower.
