I lived in Manchester for four years. The weather was never as bad as Brighton. So suck it.

I don't think Manchester qualifies.

*checks map*

Nope, too far south.

You should go live in the Western Isles for a few years. I was in a storm there once that was so strong it blew the skin off my arm.

I will be on my 6th floor Balcony like this:

I love storms.

I expect this will happen to you guys

30mm is about an inch of rain. With the wind, it can get messy, but worst since 1987? Britain has it good if this is the first big storm in 26 years.

Wait, so the niner game is still happening tomorrow right?

*selfish american*

seriously though, hope everyone over there is okay

Am I the only one who's noticed it's gotten extremely windy already?

I can hear it and feel the house creaking slightly.

Shit, hope that passes come Monday evening, or at least gets weaker. My gf has a flight from London then...

The problem isn't so much the strength of the storm it's the place it will hit. Northern Ireland, scotland and coastal areas of wales experience strong storms like this a few times a year but they are less densely populated and are better prepared. The south of England has a lot more people and will be much easier to disrupt. There's also the problem of it occurring at this time of the year when there is still some leaves on trees. This makes it much easier for them to be blown down. The 1987 storm brought down 15 million trees. The burns day storm brought down over 3 million. We have a lot of trees in the UK.
The 1987 storm carried winds of nearly 120mph. London itself was hit with winds over 90 mph. If it manages to hit those kinds of windspeed then bad things could happen.

Yeah, it's pissing down pretty hard right now. It sounds like tiny pebbles being thrown at my window rather than rain. If this is going to get worse, then I'm gonna need to invest in some steel shutters before it hits tomorrow.

It's not even close to us yet. The predicted storm will be very quick moving as it's being pushed by the jet stream. It should only be around for half a day at the most.

It's now pissing it down here too, East London with heavy winds.

Not sure if it's just our typical weather though. Tomorrow night's gonna be good.

Here in The Netherlands they're giving out a severe weather warning for Monday as well. It seems some of your UK dirt will rub off on us.

England doesn't have any weather that isn't mild. I'll believe it when my house blows away.
I'm in Essex. I'm going to die, aren't I?

I was actually at a music festival during the storm of '87.

I was woken up by a flash flood driving a river through my tent, and sirens going off and emergency services using megaphones to get the whole site evacuated, it was like something out of a disaster movie.

T'was adventurous, and ever so slightly awesome! :D
