Jeremy Conrad (former IGN): BF4 and CoD: Ghosts are 720p on Xbone

He's being sarcastic saying that if they wanted to release bad news they'd extend the embargo to launch day, not ten days before. Ten days leaves time for people to cancel.

I think those tweets are ambiguous: Either it means that what Microsoft is doing doesn't make sense because people could still cancel their preorders or it means that those aren't bad news because Microsoft knows that people could still cancel preorders.

ElTorro always delivers. ALWAYS

This is really frustrating for someone who wants to play Xbox One exclusives and doesn't care about the console war bullshit.

ugh

This isn't even console war bullshit, though. This is Microsoft fucking up since day one with the XBox One.
You can want to play the games, but man, I would be worried about the console with everything we know.

So play them. Why does this news stop you?

You'll still have great games on your console. And does it matter if it's "underpowered" if you're playing the franchises you like?

If you were going to get a One for the exclusives, you're still getting them.

I don't know... Maybe because they dont want people to cancel the damn preorder??

Both Sony and Microsoft are not revealing key info. Even Sony's FAQ about game sharing was up yesterday, which is pretty damn late.

His point is that if they wanted to hold back that info they'd put an NDA in place that ends on launch day and not ten days before that.

It's not ambiguous at all

Oh Microsoft. For now it seems like it wouldn't have been such a bad idea to actually give Sony the headstart and rethink their entire product and come with full force holiday 2014. As their product is now I'm fearing it might very well be their last.

So that's why the Future Shop kiosks have openings on the sides...

we dont have any kiosks here in australia afaik, when i played it it was at a games expo, but yeah, it was completely uncovered and the first thing i did obviously was have a look at the hardware. and first thing i noticed was the heat. i dont recall any other console running as hot as the one did. and even more baffling because it literally had vents practically all around the console.

Is this true? No one can preorders before 10 days? or maybe it's sarcasm?

No.

As things stand now, Xbox One reviews will start appearing around the 12th of November - at least a week after the PS4 reviews are published. The Xbox One is available to purchase on the 22nd of November. He is therefore asking, if the embargo was to prevent people cancelling their pre-orders, why would it end 10 days before the console launches giving them ample time to reconsider their purchase

Any of the above.

Too much money in the video game industry for that to ever happen. When/if MS leaves someone else will step in to fill the void. The industry is too prone to power shifts for anyone to leave someone alone atop a very slippery sloped mountain for long.

Also, you act like Nintendo is non-existent. I'd argue that the Sony/MS arms race is what chased them away from being hardware competitive in the first place. Without MS the arms race would slow down, development costs would plateau, and Ninendo likely would step back into the void immediately as the first legitimate challenger to Sony. That opening might even make Nintendo get with the times in terms of network infrastructure and marketplace as they'd then have a legitimate chance at competing profitably in a two format war.

Sony v. Nintendo with a new comer other than MS and we've got ourselves a far healthier games industry. Microsoft have shit on consumer good will faster than any company I've ever seen and the 180s are all thinly veiled "for now" promises that make it incredibly clear the original plan is still the end goal here.

This has been Microsoft's plan since the very beginning of all that is Xbox. Read "Opening the Xbox."

The review embargo probably has nothing to do with multiplatform disparity, resolution issues or anything of the sort. It's probably because Microsoft has some kind of marketing deal with IGN or someone, giving them exclusive first-reviews for Xbox One launch software, a review blowout, that will roll out ten days before the system launches.
Microsoft probably has all kinds of strategic marketing with certain publications in the week leading to launch, to combat the PS4 exposure.

I'm sure nobody will read this, but was there a change in the corp structure or division autonomy between xbox/xbox 360 and the xbox one? I mean, for all the faults of the xbox/360 they seemed to at least have the core idea together.

I know people have posted about how they were blindsided by the PS4's announcement/tech leapfrog, but I'm curious about the business end of things, if that's even known at this point.

I'm not sure about anything about personnel joining or exiting, but think about it like this:

Sony dominated with the PS2, and the hubris they exhibited before the launch of the PS3 outshined anything positive Sony put out about it. And, they made some questionable technical gambles with the Cell.

Now, we have the same thing coming from MS. The original was just supposed to get them in the game, and the 360 was an actual success. They felt too comfortable coming into this generation, and it sounds like the execs rejected putting out any decent hardware in the interest of profits, thinking they could extend their success of the 360.

The potential BIGGER problems? Who knows what cboat could know that we don't?

David Abrams @CheapyD

I’m not reviewing any Xbox One games so I will tell you right now, Ghosts on XB1 is indeed 720p vs PS4′s 1080p. Could that change? Maybe?

Is this true? No one can preorders before 10 days? or maybe it's sarcasm?

lol He's being sarcastic. Basically saying, if it was so bad, an embargo lifting 10 days prior to launch wouldn't make sense considering that'd be plenty of time for people to cancel preorders. If it was something terrible, the embargo would be like day of release so they don't risk losing sales.

I don't get why Arthur is arguing about the resolution being the point of of contention for the reasoning behind the embargo.

Who the fuck cares if that's the reasoning or not? The news of 720p fucking sucks for Xbox fans.

It will be a dumb ass reason of hiding behind "glowing" reviews of next gen games on PS4 with the mass market thinking that X1 will be the same.

The tech issue will be the DRM reversal patch is not fully complete, there is still a constant validity check done as the system was designed from day one with this "hive" infrastructure, too man fires for ms not enough extinguishers for launch.

Basic and naive damage control in affect, the are hanging in the no ps4's left so you will buy the x1, again only my theory no insider info.

Damn this launch and gaf has been a great source of amusement though, I really am looking forward to getting my X1 (more so my ps4 though) and see what all these issues are!!!

GAF treats anything that fucks over the consumer with equal disdain.
If Sony does something stupid, they will be torn apart. MS has done the lion's share of fuck ups this year, which is why there's a whole load of pessimism directed towards them.

ah thanks for clearing that up. i still wish most forum nowadays would have a thread pin up top that tell you which member is a reliable poster and which isnt.

For the new members to read about it of course. Gaf have such an awesome and deep history, it can be confusing to newcomers.

Probably not a good idea to be making statements about who to take seriously...
I was only going by what I'd been told on that one.

Not on some crazy rant like this fellow.

As someone who ends up with all these things I've no reason to ever want or need to.

Absolutely should have kept that to myself though I admit,
