Champion, get rekt.

Ampharos, hell yeah

Well, after working on it most of today, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and settle for 31/31/18/x/31/31 on this Scyther. Not all that terrible.

Any one want some Scythers? I have 4 adamant, technician ones with 4 perfects, 1 like that with swarm, and then several with different variations of 3 perfect IVs. These things could make decent starting points if you're planning to breed Scythers soon, and I hate to just throw them out or let them rot. I'm not trying to spend a ton of time, finding people and trading them, so if any are left after around an hour, I'll probably start just wonder trading them off.

What do you want for them? I'd take a 4IV Adamant Scyther, if you're willing.

I think you just have to have 'seen' every Poke in the 'Dex, not necessarily have caught them. And you don't have to catch Mewtwo or the Legendary Birds to get the credit. It does take a while, though. I have a Spore/False Swipe Breloom that I used to catch everything catchable, but the real time sink is levelling up all the ones you can't catch. I've been spending a lot of time at the Battle Chateau with one high-level Pokemon and five guys I'm just levelling up with the Exp Share. The GTS makes it go a lot faster, though. I just traded to get the ones like Weavile and Gliscor that require 48BP items to evolve.
If it's just Seeing then I'll definitely do it!
Thanks for the tips! :)

I'm about to fight the 8th gym. But I'm looking ahead at the E4, and I really need a pokemon that can learn Thunderbolt. Any suggestions?

Who was your Mega?

Lucario, mostly. I had Lucario, Ampharos and Venusaur all holding Mega Stones, because I don't really give a damn about other items (bar Amulet Coin/Lucky Egg), but Lucario was the one who was kicking ass most with his Mega form.

Mega Lucario got a LOT of lucky breaks against the Champion. He should have died, honestly. Golurk was the one who got the final kill, though.

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure, but the Professor congratulated me on completing the Central Kalos 'dex when I'd only seen all the Pokes, and didn't say anything different when I came back after actually catching them all, so I think you probably just have to see them.

This is the first time I've even tried completing the 'dex since G/S, because it's just so much easier this time around. Quick Balls are godlike, and by the time I got up to around 350-400 in the 'dex I was getting critical captures really often. The Exp Share makes levelling up loads of guys at once a breeze, same with the Exp Point O-Power, and once you rank up in the Battle Chateau you get a whole bunch of trainers with two or three Audinos (beating a Lv 65 Audino with a Lucky Egg, O-Power and Amie bonus gets you about 14,500 Exp in one shot :P). And a lot of the time you can catch a really high level middle-evolution, and just breed it with a Ditto to get the first stage and level it up once to get the third.

That reminds me I have to go to the Battle Chateau more often
Just a heads up. I'm going to start making Jolly Gale Wing Fletchlings. Stop me if someone already made some.
Mine are Adamant, is Jolly better? :(

QQ: For the Mystery Gift Torchic, when are its IVs, Nature and Gender set? When you turn on your game or when you talk to the delivery girl?

Quick and simple question: what's best for volcarona, sp.atk or reg atk? When iv training, I'm sure leaving one of those out is a good idea.

Also said fuck a 5 IV abra. 15 batches of eggs (4 eggs a run) later and all I hit is 4. Leaving off hp/atk

I'm mainly going Jolly for the extra speed. Adamant is for the extra damage when you don't need that speed. Though, I suppose you don't need that extra speed when you have priority Brave Bird / Acrobatics.

Fire Moth is a Sp. Attacker so you can ignore that Attack.

Did anyone have trouble catching Zygarde? This thing feels like an OG legendary. I've used like 60 different balls and nothing. Only once has the ball shaken 3 times.

It's at 1HP and Paralized too :(

Good stuff DaBoss.
I need Whimsicott to fill that 6th slot.
Until then, my Fly slave Talonflame which only has Fly and level up moves will have to do!

But when Whimsicott comes out, nobody will stand a chance!

Its base Attack is 60 and base SpA is 135, take a guess :p

Decided to breed perfect Noibats, though I'm not sure if there's any move that has to be bred for it. Anyone know about that?

Sp.atk, that its highest offensive stat and most of its movepool is spacial.

I've never played pokemon before (I'm 42 and love all games)

my nephews got me into this game and I really dig it!

I've been breeding arydactals and infecting them with pokerus and sending them out into the wild - getting total shit back except for the random cool ditto and someone who was nice enough to send me a starter with pokerus.

I found my first shiny in a "horde" battle and didn't know what it was - I caught it because it looked different. its a psyduck which I'm kinda of indifferent too - my favorite at this moment is hawlucha, that would be a cool one to have shiny.

I have been trying to read and was wondering if I put a ditto in with my shiny psyduck are the odds improved in breeding another shiny?

I've read different listings that say there is no difference (1 in 8000 or so) and others that have stated its like 1 in 64 - although I'm guessing I'm unlucky.

Yea, those were fun battles.

You've convinced me Swords Dance is useless on Mega Mawile lol. It's moveset was useless against yours.

It was fun playing mind games with you. Especially the Aegislash and Talonflame stall (though I thought you ran out of PP for Sucker Punch with TalonFlame). :p

I stopped cause I had to do something at the moment, so if you want to continue, we can if you want to.

Having one of the parents being a shiny doesn't improve the odds of the offspring being a shiny. The only way to improve the odds of hatching a shiny is if one of the parents is from a different region than the other. You'll know if it is because it'll have a FRE, GER, JAP, ITA or SPA by the side of its name. (There may be others too but that's all I've seen.)

Oh yeah, and welcome to the series! That was a pretty fucking cool post to read. Keep at it, duder.

Welcome to the series! As for your question the shiny rate remains 1/8192 if you breed with a shiny. You can increase that chance by doing the Masuda Method which is to breed Pokémon from two different countries e.g. US Raichu with JP Ditto.

Hope that helps.

So, I recently got my team up to around Level 50. I'm still playing through the story, so nothing I have is particularly great (moves, IVs, EVs) or well-constructed, but I decided to try playing a random battle.

... It didn't go so well.

I played three; I lost all of them. I almost won the first two, I think, but the third was painful. I barely managed to kill his Zygarde (Thank you, Paralysis), and that felt like a moral victory.

I'm pretty sure that's a question that nobody can answer. It will always be male no matter what though. You do know that you can breed hidden abilities now, right? Breeding a speed boost torchic with perfect IVs will be a lot faster than reseting for one, but I guess you don't have a choice if you want the original to be perfect.

Either way, the fastest way to reset is to do a soft reset (Hold L + R and press either start or select).

But yeah, my full team is settled!

Pikachu with Light Ball
Static
Timid (252 Speed/Sp.Atk, 4 Def)
-Thunderbolt
-Nuzzle
-Grass Knot
-Hidden Power Dark

Flareon with Toxic Orb
Guts
Adamant (252 Attack/HP, 4 Speed)
-Flare Blitz
-Facade
-Flame Charge
-Quick Attack

Carbink with Light Clay
Sturdy
Bold (252 HP/Defense, 4 Sp.Def)
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Moonblast
-Stealth Rock

Goodra with Assault Vest
Sap Sipper
Modest (252 Sp.Atk/HP, 4 Def)
-Draco Meteor
-Muddy Water
-Flamethrower
-Sludge Bomb

Mawile with Mawilite
Intimidate
Adamant (252 Attack/HP, 4 Sp.Def)
-Sucker Punch
-Iron Head
-Play Rough
-Payback

And the 6th slot is empty until Whimsicott comes out.
Filled with my Talonflame which has Fly, Brave Bird, Steel Wing, and Roost, with some Nature I don't care about and EVs I don't know, I think it has high Sp.Atk EVs though.

Mind posting your team?

I've fought two GAFfers so far (both were playing through story, at the same gyms and stuff as me), and both of them beat the everloving crap out of me.

Randoms sounds like the scariest thing ever. I always say no. :L

How to solve the HM issue:
Every pokémon that can learn Surf can surf when you have the badge outside of battle without needing the move (same with all the other HMs).
Replace the HMs with TMs doing pretty much the same thing (could even call them the same, just can't use out of battle).
There. HMs are still there in a way. Pokémon do stuff so you have you're connection and bond with them and you don't sacrifice battle potential or have to lug around a HM slave to navigate.

Neat my soon to be fourth shiny will be mime jr in a hoard while Ev training. Good thing I looked before I pressed earth quake lol.

Question:

Are there any benefits other than learning new moves/evolution to levelling past 50?

IE - when i do an online battle and my pokes are scaled down to lv 50, will the extra stats they have gained from levelling further be factored into the scaling down?

I don't use legendaries, and if an opponent has a legendary in their party I have an (perhaps unrealistic) expectation that they'll want to fight me as an equal and save their legendary for someone else using one. But no, every time I see a legendary in their party preview, wouldn't you know it's the first one up. I've tried to battle them several times to no avail, so I've decided to save us both a lot of time and forfeit matches against legendary-users in the Battle Spot. They still get their "victory" and I can move on to more interesting battles. It's a win-win.

It makes in-game battles easier.

When you pick it up from the delivery girl, so it would be a good idea to save before hand and just soft reset for the best one.

Ugh, trying to get a 5IV Protean Froakie is like pulling teeth. I'm at a full box with 4/ 3 iv parents, and I just can't do it.

Destiny knot is a lie, lol.

YESSSSS!!!! FINALLY! The old "complain to GAF" method works again!

Modest Togepi (Serene Grace) w/ Nasty Plot and 31/x/31/31/31/31 IVs. GOD YES

EDIT I "only" had to evolve 10 Togepis.. never again lol

So my current competitive team is (all bread with natures, IVs):

Charizard
Haxorus
Ferrothorn

Suggestions on the last the slots?
